Chapter 1a: The Beach
Cole was ready. He didn't think any of them knew what to expect with no males in sight it was unnerving. Where were they, where they being watched? He tensed, ready to spring into action at the mention of killing by the young woman.
If he relaxed when they dwarf woman talked to him specifically, it was only shown by the slight grin on his face. He knew what she meant as soon as she spoke of dragon-folk. " Not all Dragon-folk are good and cause much harm and destruction. Some desreve to be made into armor or even hilts of a sword. No different than the hides of any animal 'cause some dragons are just that, animals. This sword has been in my family for years and it's history is my own. He wasn't sure if that would be the answer she seeked but it was what he had. Every part of him was on full alert.

Chapter 1a: The Beach
[K: Arcana, DC 15]

"So then" came a voice from behind the mass of women. The mass opened up revealing a scaled creature -- a Dragon by the looks of it. He was about the size of a large dog, with scales that ranged from brilliant bronze to an odd blue. "is it ok for Dragons' to use human skulls as ale mugs?"

The question was probably rhetorical, because the Dragon didn't wait for a response. Rather it turned to the young woman.

"Do we start wars without ascertaining the Truth?"

"That's enough, [Language unknown:  Ckivelni]."

"Yes, your Excellency"

The Dragon bowed his head slightly and then moved to the young woman's side. Whoever this Dwarven woman was, she commanded the respect of Dragons.

"To the pub then? You will need to be briefed on our ... situation here."

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Something tickled at Malax's senses, and a single eyebrow arched up.  But the scowl on his race remained impassive.  Questions of a persons choice of adornment did nor concern him.  He was suspicious now, even more so with the change of venue.  But nothing useful would be gained by standing on a beach.  He remain silent, however.  Though what information they would recieve was of interest to him.

14:54, Today: Malax rolled 15 using 1d20+7 with rolls of 8.  Knowledge (Arcana).

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Elspeth laughed out loud, a very short burst of obviously involuntary laughter at the dragon's comment.  It was well deserved, but immediately Elspeth apologized to Cole for his outburst, and was just glad he wasn't drinking at the time because he would have spit it everywhere.  He held his tongue as the female interjected, but as she finished, "To the pub eh?  Perhaps the majestic dragon was not joking!", Elspeth said in a low tone towards Cole, a wink and grin on his face.

Uluf regards the dragon. "Nice to meet you, Ale-born. But one should never ask a goblin an ethical question. Far too many of us have no place in their lives for ethics. Might I ask who this young lady is that you call an Excellency?"

[OOC: Just so you don't miss it. Originally, I put the pub suggestion in Goldenrod -- that was a mistake. It was the Dwarf suggesting it, so it should have been in Gray.]

Chapter 1a: The Beach
A real Dragon. A slight grin comes across Cole's face. The Dragon's comment was fair. It held no malice and even if it did Cole didn't care. Looking over at Elspeth, Cole chuckled and nodded his head, turning his gaze back to the Dwarf and Dragon. "If drinking ale from the skull of your enemy is your thing, then have at it. Me... I'll use my tankard." Cole tapped his fingers on the tankard hooked to his belt. He smiled and stepped in line to follow them. "I do like a good pub and a nice cool ale sounds good about now. Maybe it'll knock these bells out of my head."

Chapter 1a: The Beach
"Sadly" the Dwarven woman said as she lead the short trek through town, "we may never know what power brought you here."

The town was fairly well organized, with cobblestone streets, stone buildings. and doors made from the finest (most likely Dwarven) steel. Even the windows had shutters made of steel that could be locked and bolted from the inside.

Even the docks were made of stone.

"It wasn't the young lady I called Excellency -- it was the Elder." The tone of the word "Elder" made it clear that this was a title of respect, and not an insult directed at her age. "Her Excellency is Garnatha Granite-Beard, our town priest and smithy."

"And I am Galia Ale-Borne."

It was a small village, so the small group arrived at their destination quickly. The building was a bit large for a pub, probably serving as a village hall when necessary. Behind the granite countertop was a younger Dwarven woman, drying several metallic tankards.

"Well, well!" she said with a grin, "It looks like Galia wasn't seeing things! The name's Kyrnythia -- Kyrnythia Granite-Beard. What will it be?"

Two ales and a Dwarven stout were quickly ordered and a table procured -- also stone.

Uluf thinks over the Dwarven woman's response, then asks "were you all transported to this place by the same power or agency that brought us here? Are we the first males to be brought here?"

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Elspeth was obviously a bit taken aback at the situation here, obviously at a loss for words, at least for a moment or two before he asks, "Even more important than whether other men are here... is this place safe?  I notice the level of protection you have on the buildings, do you expect trouble?  It is an insult to you all to be asked about gender, and my apologies for that, but it is a worthy query about your arrival.  I just assumed you are all native, but considering a return home seems the appropriate next-step, if you are not native, how you came to not return home is also a wise query.  And may I have some water, please?".  His voice being soft enough to be as mistaken for a female as his appearance would allow for.

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Malax mutters under his breath, his voice inaudible.  Then his hand wraps around the mug, and he takes a sip.  For the moment he just listens.  The answers to the questions should be interesting, though no-one would answer questions from a "Demon".  At least his wits would be with him, should they attack.

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Cole took in everything he could on the walk to the pub. Taking the offered ale he took a big swig or two as his new comrades inquired on what was on their minds.
"Aww, that's a fine ale it is." Cole sat down at the table and looked to dragon and the Dwarven females. "All good questions from my new friends and I reckon you's will have good answers in your briefing, so I'll had my two coppers worth. An all female town is odd and meaning no offense but what about you dragon-kin, are you female as well, don't guess I know enuff of your kind to tell the difference. And what is it with all the stone and steel. There's nothing made of wood. Is there a threat around here that needs the protection of stone and steel. He then took another drink of the ale and grinned. "Mighty fine indeed, might like to try that stout next. Not much better than a good Dwarven Stout."

Chapter 1a: The Beach
"Ye've got a good eye there, lad. Indeed the Evil Moons are far to common around here, and we've got one coming up soon. We never know what it will be comin' after us, well except that the foul summoned kind can't get in here so they use more of the lesser Evils."

"The name of the place is Tri-Island" she said leaning in conspiratorially, "and it was once a prosperous Draconic kingdom. But then some sort of foul magics landed centuries ago! Now we're two villages and a haunted, abandoned tower."

"And ye'd best be watching yourself! The men folk stay around long enough, a few moons usually, but then ... they just wander off, never to be seen alive again!"

"Now, the only male to be seen -- besides the hatchling there -- is the old Drow in the mines."

"I, myself, only hatched last week. Like you, we have no idea where I actually came from. What I can tell you is that there are two villages, both well fortified. This one -- the food village, known as Foodton -- and the mining village, known as Dragon's Deep on the other island."

"The third island is the one with the tower -- you might have seen it -- and no one goes there. I flew over it once, but I didn't see anything of interest."

Uluf scratches himself. "If Foodton and Dragon's Deep are on islands, there where are the men 'wandering' off to? Have you seen any tracks or indicators of where they disappeared to?"

Chapter 1a: The Beach
"Unfortunately" the Elder Dwarf replied, "No, we have no clue. They usually disappear in the chaos of a night raid. There are tracks, but they quickly mix in with other tracks from raiders."

"We suspect" the barkeep replied, "That they go to the abandoned island for some reason. That's one of the few places we can't check -- immune to scrying and that sort of thing. The miners may know more though."

"I hope none of you are vegetarians" she continued with a grin. "Most of what we eat around here is seafood."

As if on cue, a couple of servers arrived laden with various fish dishes with the mandatory vegetable accompaniment.

"Night raid?  Who is raiding?  Where do -they- go off to?  They leave tracks, so those tracks must end at the water?  Or the Mines?", Elspeth asked, wondering how it is that every answer just caused more questions...

Chapter 1a: The Beach
As the food is placed infront of him, Malax mutters something inaudible under his breath, before speaking.  "Thank you."  is all he says, his voice reserved and coldly polite.  He had manners, and used them.  Even if they intended to attack him, that did not mean that he should descend in to uncouth savagery.  The questions asked thus far were useful, and the information, if correct, was even more intriguing.

He casts Purify Food and Drink cantrip on his beverage.  Attempting to do so without being noticed.

Chapter 1a: The Beach
"Not the mines, always the water. We can sometimes see signs that they originate from the third island, but no one goes over there any more."

"Except my sister" Galia muttered.

"Well, now, that's different!" Kyrnithia replied, the humor disappearing from her voice. "Galia's sister, Gevia, felt 'called' to the island. She walked off in broad daylight, and nothing we said could change her mind."

"The men-folk who disappear never want to go -- they're downright scared of it, in fact."

"The question seems to be -- do you want to hunker down here and see what's happens? Or would you like to take a trip to the mines? We -- myself and Galia -- can act as your guides if you'd like."

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Cole had remained quiet seeming content in just enjoying his drink and good grub. He let out a small belch, with his mouth closed, he wasn't a heathen. Grinning he stood and looked towards the Ladies and Dragon "Yea well I reckon you can count me in on the trip to the mines. I don't much like not knowing how I got here and I've a feeling the answers just might be at that messed up island. So yea, count me in."

[OOC: No takers? Okay ...]

Ale-Born wolfed down a hunk of meat between two slices of bread -- something called a "sandwich" before turning toward the door.

"Any other questions? Or shall we leave immediately?"
