Chapter 1a: The Beach
The long ribbon of beach was composed of white sand, with granite peeking out from underneath. Birds sang in the branches of the trees not even fifty feet away, and the rustle of leaves said there were animals of some kind in those woods as well. With the exception of two bodies, it was otherwise deserted.

The two bodies began to stir. They might remember where they were from and the intricate details of esoteric theory ... if they were lucky, they might even know each other.

But they didn't know where they were.

[OOC: Amnesia is optional, if you feel like RPing it -- but you don't know where you are. Please make a perception roll.]

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Elspeth stretched his hand out, feeling the rough sand rub coarsely against his delicate skin.   He opened his eyes abruptly, his head jerking upwards in a sudden panic.  This is a fine mess..., he thought to himself as he wearily attempted to stand up, his legs shaking from exhaustion.  A beach?  Was he shipwrecked?  He looked out into the water and along the coastline in search of debris, muttering obscenities under his breath.  He did not remember being on a boat... or come to think of it... he really didn't remember much of anything... was this his beach?  Did he live here?  He pondered as his eyes continued their trek across the landscape, looking inland now for signs of his adobe, or civilization.

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Uluf feels the sand under his body, a relaxing sensation bringing back an early memory of.....something comforting. He awakes and sees nothing familiar. A moment of panic sweeps over him as he scrambles to his feet. His instincts take over, and soon he is climbing a tree for a better vantage point. From up high, he looks around for something....anything....familiar.

Perception 8 on d20+5.

Chapter 1a: The Beach
While Elspeth listened, he heard a feint, rhythmic metallic clanging come from the west. Uluf, meanwhile, climbed a tree -- something he was rather good at -- to look around. He saw water -- lots and lots of water. The trees blocked most of the view, though he could see what appeared to be a village (or, more precisely, the tops of a village) a couple miles to the west. East, or perhaps North-East, several miles away and across some water, he could see what appeared to be the top of a stone tower peeking out above even more trees.

But in it all, there was nothing familiar.

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Hearing the distant metallic clanging, which he assumes to be a military unit on its way, Elspeth dives for tree cover, finding a nice thick brush under which to hide... he looks upwards at the nearby tree, wondering at the green creature that had scurried up the trunk moments before.  It looked... dangerous...

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Uluf sees the reaction below out of the corner of his eye, but is unable to track where the other person went. Unsure of what it was reacting to, Uluf hid among the leafy canopy up above.

Chapter 1a: The Beach
The two hid and waited ... but nothing happened. The rhythmic clanging continued, abating for short periods. After a couple of minuted, it became evident that the clanging was not that of soldiers, but that of tools.

A blacksmith perhaps?

A gentle breeze blew from the direction of the town, occasionally bringing with it the feint sounds of town life. Still, other than that ... there was nothing.

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Elspeth remained frozen under the brush, staring upwards in marvel at how well the green creature seemed to meld in with the leaves.  He spent minutes trying to figure out where, precisely, he had gone before finally speaking up, "*ahem*  Sorry, but exactly what sort of creature are you?  Are you a plant creature?", he asks aloud, giving away his own position beneath the tree.

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Uluf climbs down the trunk and lets himself hang from a lower branch by his tail. He smiles and says "Uluf is a monkey goblin. Usually found in tropical regions. I saw a village a few miles to the west, and an ominous stone tower to the northeast. I want a few answers so i am planning to visit the village. You are welcome to join me if you introduce yourself." The goblin seems better spoken than most of his race.

Chapter 1a: The Beach
"Well met, Uluf, I am... I am... uhm....", Elspeth replies, looking more and more confused as he struggled to remember something... "I...I'm not quite sure to be honest... I was... I think I was shipwrecked.... no, that doesn't make sense... no debris.  Maybe I live here in the village...?", he struggles, obviously becoming frustrated with his inability to remember much of anything.

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Uluf snorts. "No disrespect intended, but your clothing seems more finespun and good quality than I would expect from what I am guessing is an island-based village. No, you're an outsider like me who found himself on this beach with no memory of how he got here. Maybe we will get answers to that, maybe not. Best to move forward than mope about what we don't have."

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Elspeth ponders, looking at his clothes a bit before commenting, "Could be... where are you from then?  I had just naturally assumed you were a local.  Maybe I am also from there?", he hoped aloud, though he didn't expect an affirmative answer.  Instead he brushed himself off and started walking with Uluf towards the sounds of a blacksmith.

Chapter 1a: The Beach
As the pair began walking, they came across a humanoid that they didn't see before. He seemed to be unconscious .... He was muscular, with dark blue skin and jet black horns that sweep back across his head. He sported a beard that was, contrary to his black hair, a dark crimson.

His eyes opened before the pair reached him ...

Chapter 1a: The Beach
Malax's eyes open, their brilliant amethyst gaze taking in his surrounding, as he stands to his full six and a half foot height.  His clothes were clean, well made, but if simple style.  The last thing he remembered was stepping through a portal and setting foot on heavy wood beams set together as though they were a floor of some kind.  He watches as the pair approaches, his face scowling.
