Meeting a Mayor (0.1.3a)

Argentus shook his head.  He thought he now saw why the Court thought it would be a suitable favor for them to seek the aid of the former mayor.  It wasn't just about making life easier for the non-dead, but for giving a just man a reason to live.  "This isn't just about him helping us get back to our lives.  This is about us helping him clean up and reclaim this city.  Which I think he'll be even more personally motivated to be about it.  It might even be the difference between him enduring the next night with hope, rather than ending his own life over what he's (in his own mind perhaps) failed to prevent."

Thinking this might now be the difference between life and death not just for random person who had made poor life choices, but for a good man who had done his best and was being targetted by their own foes for it.  He pulled up the hood on his sweater.  "Let's try this again.  I'll try to avoid being recognized until we're alone with him, but this just got a good deal more urgent.  If you're not comfortable going back in, I'll try it alone.  But I think having you cover for me might make getting access go better."

Meeting a Mayor (0.1.3a)

Prometheus is silent for a moment,  before he said, Just so I'm clear the plan is...

He raises a hand, clearly intending to count, "One, show up to a Wake univited and impropperly dressed.

Two, try and get the ex-mayor alone, in the middle of the Wake to his daugther.

Three, reveal to a man mourning his daughter that your deaths were greatly exaggerated, despite the fact there was enough evidence to convict someone.

Four, tell him the reason we have interupted his daughter's Wake is because we needed to start the process of legally being alive again immediately. That it couldn't even wait for the Wake to end.

That sounds about right?"
Prometheus raises an eyebrow.

Argentus's mild frustration with his ally's desire to not do this played across his face, but then went away, as he was overall thankful in his response to Promethius.  "I highly doubt it's a wake as the dress is very wrong, and to let him finish mourning his daughter before approaching would be stupid - the man's been targetted by the same faction that targetted us and things will only keep getting worse until he dies... and he has no recourse for actually dealing with the full threat that's arrayed against him.  But your point about dress and timing is well taken.  This is a serious occasion and I'm under-dressed.  I should get better clothes and wait before going in.  Thank you for your help, your cautiousness probably saved me from a scandal.  You should go ahead and be about your other business for today.  I will take care of the rest here after I hit the store and the church."

Meeting a Mayor (0.1.3a)

Prometheus looked at the people entering and leaving the building in Funeral clothing, then shrugged, "I'm not one for accurate terminology for death Ceremonies. If you have another name for the gathering after a Funeral, then I'm fairly sure this is that. Could be wrong though."

However he would definitely take the gratitude, "Caution is what I do. You can't improve anything with haste, no matter what people might say. You're welcome though, although I think you would have figured it out yourself before you went to far."

Offering Argent a smile, Prometheus began to walk away, already reaching for his eyepiece to contact Uber, "Call me if you need me." Not that he would be able to help most likely, but it was the thought that counted.

Probably.

Charlotte happily followed along beside her owner, hoping for more dog treats and wondering where they would be off to next.

Argentus pointed to his hair.  "Well, maybe it's a wake but not a proper one.  We pretty much started them... or at least perfected them.  They're supposed to be prior to the funeral, and contain at least three parts alcohol per one part sad."

"Same to you - call if you need anything."  He said seriously, then continued with a smirk: "If I don't answer I'm probably incarcerated or Smote."

He headed for a Men's Warehouse to try to find a relatively inexpensive suit that didn't look cheap.  He had thought about going to the church first but figured it wouldn't hurt to dress well when going to meet with near-divinity.

It didn't take terribly long before Argentus had a moderately nice, inexpensive suit to wear and now the choice to be made: the former mayor or the church?

Argentus swung by the office again.  If people dressed in black were still going in and out, he headed to the church.  Either way, once he arrived he pulled his hat on to cover his wild hair, got out of the cab, and entered the building.

People were indeed still going in and out of the building... but then again, it was an office building so it was sort of hard to tell.

There had been several smaller churches away from the main city. While it wouldn't be hard to reach them physically, finding one that was both below the interest of your enemy but still powerful enough to help in any way would take a little doing.

It takes a few hours going to all the smaller churches but you finally find one with some manner of Aetherial resonance within it, a small chapel, tucked out of the way with likely only a few people who went there.

The door was, of course, locked and breaking into a church would likely anger the spirit within.

Argentus looked around for witnesses, when he got to a spot where there were none, he crossed over to the Shadow Realm and went to the front door of the church.  He entered through the front door and looked around for any spirit present.

Inside, there was a spirit. It didn't seem to be an actual celestial, but rather a spirit of hope. It looked somewhat like a woman in white. She smiled and beckoned you closer. "Greetings, and how may I help you today?"

Meeting a Mayor (0.1.3a)

Argentus moved toward the pew and took a seat.  "Recently some acquaintances and I were recovering some innocents from the clutches of a trio of Nephandi torturers.  One of those with me promised what seemed to be a living victim that we would save her.  It seemed reasonable enough a promise, if she were living."

He frowned and shook his head.  "She was dead, and her body had been animated to extend its suffering by stealing power from the soul of another.  We saved the original possessor of the soul, but not the woman."

He held up empty hands, helplessly.  "Is there something we can do to help her?  The others have been swayed from their initial idea of forcing her soul back to animate her tortured corpse - that seems like it would only cause further harm to her.  But is there some way to ease her passing to the next life, and ensuring that it is a good one?  Something we can do on her behalf, or an entity we could reach who would be able to help her, or a way to allow her a chance to undo any effect the Nephandi's acts in her last ours may have done to her eternal soul?"

The spirit put a finger to its chin. "No. At this point, there is nothing further that can be done. If she is dead then her death is final. All that remains is to let her suffering end and allow her soul to reap its reward."

OOC: sorry, this thread didn't register a new post for some reason.

Argentus bowed to the spirit.  "I was afraid so.  Thank you for your counsel.  Is there anything I can do to help you here?  My companions and I are laboring to return hope to the whole city, but If there is anything I can do to help you in this corner, please do tell me."

As he left, he asked the lesser spirit, "What's your name, and what did she mean when she said you disrupted her mission?"

Argentus smiled.  "I can't ride storm clouds, but I like to travel around and see places and make new friends.  I'm hoping to someday build a ladder into the sky that anyone can climb and gain magic.  Let's see, what else?  I like figuring out new magic and making things change for the better.  And coffee.  I really like coffee."

After less than a moment's thought, he added.  "I've got to warn you: where we're going there will be lots of batteries you shouldn't tamper with - they'll be filled with flaming magic that could harm you and there's a dragon who might take it personally even if you succeeded without harming yourself.  I'll find you other opportunities to sabotage some other batteries if you can keep your hands off the friendly ones."
