Downtime, Day 3 (0.2.0)

The days passed, playing with the kids, spending time together, and honing skills.

On the third day, Noah met Promethius in the hospital room. There was this funny odor now in the medical room. Sabrina doesn't seem to notice.

Noah rolled his long neck. "Grey, could you break down the body but save the memory cores just encase we need a backup?" He pulled up a slate for Prom indicating the plan. He was going to pull the specter and they would use Prom as an interface. It would allow them to download the memories of the specter before sending her off to her final rest. This would allow for Amy to live on as her awareness would have a constant stream from one point to another.

Grey didn't despond verbally but there was a sudden shifting in the room where Amy's body had been kept and she was no longer there (though the discarded synth parts still were).

Downtime, Day 3 (0.2.0)

Prometheus stopped at the door. He knew something like this would take Noah directly, rather then one of his drones. However the fact was this had to be done if he wanted to save her. And regardless of what he gave up, regardless of what paths he took, and the men he dealt with.

It was all about saving in the end, right? Traditionally animals and medicine of course. Synthetic Necromancy wasn't the traditional path.

But if anyone deserved more time, it was Amy.

Entering the room, Prometheus greeted the Dragon with a nod, and then looked over the plan. Finally he said, "I understand most of this, but if what little remains of Amy's soul is moving on, what will be the spirit that the Synth clings to, to function?" He had never been sure exactly what or where the souls used in Synth craft came from, especially for those that were intended for robots...

But when they had a perfectly good soul... it seemed wasteful to pass it on. It was probably necessary, but still...

Noah rocked his head back and forth. "You are asking me to answer a fundamental question about the meaning and mode of human existence, not something we are going to answer perfectly any time soon."

"Once we fully download her and give mental Amy a full accounting of her life. Once that is done we will talk with her and her dad all in the same place. If they decide to let us continue then so be it."

"At that stage, we will get some ectoplasm for Grey and she can 'print' out that soul filament synths have."

"Synths gain a true soul as they gain life experience. In this case, she will have the most life experience of any synth made on earth."
He shrugged, "Given my recent lifestyle change I have come to the conclusion that we are three people in one person. The body, the mind, and the soul."

"Given that thirty percent of her memory survived the whole ordeal, Amy has had no laps. There is a clear line from birth to this point where her memory continues. All we are doing is mending the memory from the original, then giving her prosthetics."

Prometheus nods, storing the information away, "Given the amount of memory she still has, combined with a Synth mind, she probably has a better recollection then most humans would."

He is silent for a long second then said, "Considering that, it maybe wise to at least consider toning down her treatment at the hands of the cult. I am hesitant to propose this as I dislike interfering with memory...

He looks down at the Synth parts that remain of Amy. That and her memories, "...but the alternative is probably many long years of therapy."

Noah nodded, "Yea, she will have a rather brilliant memory after this." Prom's comment about the cult got another nod. "Standard process is to cut out the trauma. A synth will put trauma on replay and relive it nonstop until they shut down. Which is what is happening with MamaSynth right now. Another four days we can start to fish her back out of her trauma like we did with Scar."

"She will be aware there is a part of her memory missing and a clear indicator that it was removed."
He started spinning up a few of the screens. "Amy, you there dear? We are just about ready for the treatment."

He clapped his claws and smiled as the overlay of the camera she had been given access to showed a normal Noah rather than the dragon.

"I am sorry this has taken so long. We had to give Talion a hand and you had been safe and sound on vacation. Now that it has been a few days I can let you know a little more about what is going on and what will happen."

Walls should be clearly marked." He held up one finger. "Give me a moment Amy, you're in a virtual space so I have to prepare him."

He stood and moved to the door. Speech ready as follows: "I am going to ask you to remain calm. We recovered Amy before we recovered you. At current with what was done to her, well, she is kinda like me now. A load of memories that moved out of my original body. Normally I would be a lot more slow about this but time is kind of an issue."

"First, her mind is alive and well. She is been on vacation for the last few days. When this is all said and done she will be whole and present. Better than new, but I am going to have to cheat a bit... pull a 'Talion' really."

"What we need is for you to keep her calm, help her cope with what I am telling her. Right now her memory is only at thirty percent. With the treatment, we are about to go do she will be bumped up to one hundred. But we have to be careful to filter during the transfer once we get on site."

Noah thought for a short time. He had no oath of a doctor. There was no legal grounds for what was going on. She was a hybrid human-like the baby on the ship so there was a massive Grey area, heh, Grey.

"The people who captured you gave her to some very bad people. They experimented. Due to the nature of how they did what they did, we had been able to recover her mind, but her body was gone to the point that an infant was put into a coma for the components to keep her."

"We saved her mind but her body could not survive. The young lady in there is every bit her personality, memory, consciousness. With Grey's nanotech and a bit of work, after we fully merge her memory it will just be a matter of time until we can provide her a body."

"But right now there are holes in her memory. Prometheus and I are doing our best, but she needs you, and you cant tell her whats happened to her. Only that she will be ok. Only that we are about to go help her get all her memory back."

In your state if the memories remained intact you would focus on the trauma and it would become the only thing you thought about." he looked at Prom. Any synth tech did this and its why replaced organs had to be wiped from time to time. "The larger chunks that are missing are in quarantine. We will be going there as soon as you are ready to start the process to fully integrate you."

"Once that is done we can start doing the rest. If we have anything to say about it you will be as good and new and twice as full of questions."

Prometheus grit his teeth as Noah basically spilled everything about his nature to someone who was, at best, a sleep walker. Ultimately, Noah was closer to Talion then Prometheus was, and the kids were in Noah's care till Talion got out of Prison.

He may think putting this all on a kid is a bit much, and that their were kinder ways to get Amy and Jamie to interact, but it wasn't his call.

Still while Noah spoke he nodded and smiled in the right places, letting him lead.

When Noah directed Amy's over to him, he said, "Memory Alteration of Prosthetic and other Synth tech is quite a complex thing, but ultimately it can be compared to either muting, burying or removing. Under normal circumstances I would hesitate to remove any memory as treatment is almost always better and its possible that you will need those memories latter. Therapy has come a long way after all."

Looking directly at the Camera with a serious expression, he said, "So when I say 'I highly recommend having those memories removed,' I want you to understand how unusual it is, and thus how dangerous those memories are potentially to your mental health. If left in your head, even if muted or buried, it is likely you will need to go to a Psychologist for the rest of your life due to PTSD and a host of other conditions that may develop. As Noah said, its possible that you may become trapped in a loop regardless of muting or burying those memories.

I have a policy of not performing anything on my patience I have not done on myself, so I will acknowledge I have had some very minor memory removal in the past. The hole will feel strange, and we will likely put something that clearly isn't true in its place to make sure you are aware where it is and that we haven't lied to you.

However due to the mind's ability to forget details it considers unimportant, this will fade with time until it becomes little more then an odd quirk...akin to a song popping into your head when you are trying to think of something else."
He gave a small chuckle that faded quickly back into the serious expression.

"I will acknowledge I want to have your permission to do this. Its wrong to alter a mind without permission, however I want to emphasis again, IF you don't agree to this your quality of life will be worse...likely forever.... in any number of unpredictable ways. These memories are toxic and no one needs to recall something like this...ever."

One of the most important things when inside the medical profession was not to show your disagreement to the patient or their family. It helped nothing.

Still the look Noah was getting was very obviously translatable to, Why?

If the aim was to find any trace of the memory they had missed, it was possible to do that without actually taking her there.

If they were doing it to get rid of the Ghost, it was possible to do so without her there. It would be harder, no doubt, but she wasn't required.

And with the site completely leveled, and her body dissolved by Grey, it was hard to even imagine even the tiniest touch of Sympathetic connection remained between her and that location. And even if it did... Mistral could deal with it without them taking Amy there.

He honestly and clearly couldn't think of a possible reason to risk her mental and spiritual state. Hell, he would have been happier not going back himself, given the state of the Shadow after the Star Vampire was done with it.

Still, it was only a look, and he still helped prepare to leave.

But Noah better have a damn good reason, that's for sure, or I will kick his arse for putting a patient through unnecessary suffering. Even if he is a giant, near invincible Dragon.

Prometheus still clearly felt this was an unnecessary action, and eventually had to ask, "Surely if the soul went to the Underworld it would have the same effect. The mind and body would develop a new soul as you said Synths do, and she already has most, if not all the memories from her past."

Let alone that they actually had to TELL her that's what we were going to do.

Still, even regardless of the answer he continued the interface process, recognizing that now that they were here, now that they had stressed her, and now she was being Brain Danced, they should at least take this extra step.

Carefully he approached Jamie and said, "Lets see what I can do to make this as pleasant as possible. I promise you, when this is over, she won't remember any of it."

After a few minutes Noah's body prints out a small metal object that looked slightly like a radiator. When he touched one of the Nepahndi ghosts, he literally rips the soul out of the ghost. Grey then absorbs the ectoplasm from the ghost and begins printing another. When the soul touched the radiator, he could see spirit threads begin to sew into the ectoplasm, binding the nephandi to the machine.

Soon after, she prints another while the third one is dragged, kicking and screaming, into the bottle with the spectre inside.

Noah "pocketed" the two ghost traps and bowed his head to Amy. "Amy, I am Noah. I am very sorry for what happened to you but I want to say thank you for all that you have done. I am here to heal the part of you that is still alive. All people are three persons; Mind, body, and soul."

"I may be able to get you, your mind, and an artificial body all as one person. But to do this, I have to take the mind we have here now, and unify your memories. Extract your soul out of your ghost form and put you into the artificial body. That way, you are still Amy in mind, soul, but with a prosthetic. Like a warrior coming home."

"If all works well, you'll be hugging your dad by the end of the week. and I will pull out all stops. It is the best I can do."

Noah nodded, "Thank you Amy. You are going to meet a friend who is working with the part of your mind that is still alive in the world. We can't save everyone, but at least today one brave young woman will get her life back." He gently took her chain and lead her back to the worksite that they had set up. He spoke to Prom through his connection to the tech.

"Recovered the soul. She was very brave and had joined with a few to pull the Nephandi we missed as they had put their souls into objects. If you are ready I am going to link you and she, once she is in the brain dance through you it's going to be a bit of a ride."

"And Grey just showed me how their soul jars work so Amy will be her full original mind, her soul will be united to her mind. and we will supply the body."
He called up the Kiju buggy and its drunk with a balled up Noah in the back.

"She will be getting the best I can do..."

Promethius felt a chill in his soul as a second version of Amy, haggard and tired, began to phase in beside him on the dock. You could feel her ghost now bound to your body via a soul tether.

Lola stirred within as a wave of death magic carried a clear warning she should not interfere in any shape, form, or fashion.

Downtime, Day 3 (0.2.0)

Just before he entered the Brain Dance, Prometheus thought, An order of things...yeah right... even if that was the case, you can't justify bringing Amy here.

As Amy sat on the docks, Prometheus approached, "May I sit with you?" Should she approve he sat beside her and sighed, "I wonder, what would happen if we went fishing here?" Right now it was best to make a simple bit of small talk to see how she feels.

If she reacts angrily, then he has to work to undo any damage, if she reacts more fully embraced in the Braindance then he will continue along that path.

When the Ghost begins to arrive, Prometheus tenses, as he feels Lola begin to freak out. But its both fear and desires...she is afraid, but also she is also aware that death magic that strong can go both ways. And that is something to hope for.

Still, he wasn't quite sure how Amy would react to her Ghost...not that he could prepare her for that.

Noah.... why?

Amy makes room for Promethius beside her and stares out into the water. They manage to have a short, pleasant conversation before the ghost of Amy appears.

The other Amy is noticeably alarmed, but the ghostly Amy raises a hand. "It's alright."

"Who are you?"

"I'm Amy."

"That's impossible! I'm Amy!"

"I think we both are."

"How is that even possible?"

"I'm not sure. I think those people did something to us... so, when I died, part of me was left behind. You."

A bout of freaking out and panicking later...

"What's going to happen to us?"

"I met a dragon who said he was going to give you my memories."

The Amy beside Promethius froze in panic. "Did... did you say dragon?!?"

Ghost Amy rolled her eyes and sighed. "Is it really more surprising than talking to your own ghost?"

Synth Amy paused for a moment, trying to comprehend what she'd just heard. "So, what's going to happen to you?"

"Well, I saw him pull the soul out of a ghost, so I think it'll be your mind and my soul in one body."

"Are you really okay with that?"

 "As opposed to being dead?"

Synth Amy paused and nodded before Ghost Amy spoke. In the real world, it was Promethius that spoke. "We're ready in here whenever you are."

He reached out and tapped Prom on the chest. "Just need to hold on buddy. This is all the easy stuff, it will get a bit harder when we install the memory backup device and other things to make her indiscernible from human."

He waited for a green light from Prom as he would be the one with his hair standing on end. Either way he debated for a moment and threw the switch.

Despite asking whether or not Promethius was ready, Noah flipped the switch and he immediately felt his brain implant begin to process, dumping images into the Brain Dance as Amy's entire life flashed before his eyes.

The process took several minutes and was extremely uncomfortable until the images finally ended. Synth Amy was the first to fade out of the Brain Dance and then Ghost Amy before Promethius was finally unplugged.

Outside of the Brain Dance, Promethius immediately felt himself begin to lose equilibrium (Dexterity + Composure to avoid falling over and vomiting from the experience) but the synthetic that Noah had brought with him (the one he'd been piloting up until now) was standing and moving independently, looking at her new body.

"It worked!

He looked over Amy, "That's because it's not Synth tech you're in, its Ark tech. Only three such units exist. Think about how you looked and the unit will start adjusting. We still have to put in the weights and your defrag system to protect your mind when we get home. But before that we will call your dad and give him a big update."

"And sorry about all this. The shock was needed as your mind had to be in a receptive state. But let me congratulate you on your recovery."

He looked to Prom, "Now comes your part. As she will need to be taught what it's like to live with tech. Mind taking her back with the sub? I'll free the rest of the souls the Nephandi had trapped, then we can get her through that few upgrades."

Downtime, Day 3 (0.2.0)

Now this, THIS made sense to him. He didn't know why Noah lied earlier and said that they were going to use a separate soul, but merging soul and mind into one new life...that was actual rational and explained why they came out here.

Talking to both Amy's he said, "Given how little time you have been separate from each other, the mental and spiritual differences will be minor. So neither of you will vanish, but instead you will both fit together like a puzzle. That I can promise you."

He really hoped he was telling the truth. While he had thus far claimed that everything he had done on someone else he would do on himself first...this wasn't something he could do that with. This was about as experimental as it could get.

Experimental Magic to save the life of an innocent...what better reason to cast a spell.

Still, when the memories of Amy flowed through his head, he quickly became somewhat Ill. To many minds, to many thoughts, this...thus was painful.

When he recovered from almost throwing his lunch up everywhere, he watched in marvel as Amy shifted her body at well. The potential for this technology was incredible.

And then he noticed Noah was gone, "You have GOT to be kidding me. NOAH!!! How do you expect me too...."

He looks at the giant blob of nano-tech, "Well I guess poke it with a cable and see what happens then. I won't be a minute, I promise Amy."

And with that, he began to see if he could interface with it. Firstly by wifi, and should that not work, by CAREFULLY putting a USB and (failing that) then a PCIe lead into the gloop to see what happens.

OOC:
There are two Computer rolls here, as this could be two different things. Wits to catch any singal before it slips through my fingers, and Resolve just in case the Nano-tech immediately floods me with data or DDOS attacks. Cause Noah also didn't tell me how to disable any anti-hacking security the nanobots possess.

Noah stalked low to the ground like a giant lizard, which he was, as he skulked over the building to the center point of their soul catch. It wasn't something that he had to do but it would have been a sin to disrupt the natural order of souls that he couldn't save. It never took much to ruin intricate works but it was important to restore some kind of balance. Who knew what would happen if they had been left out here to rot for years and years.

He started passively typing out on his hud. ~Grey, if you could work with Prom to get them home I would be very thankful. I shouldn't be too far behind them. Please please please don't eat his connector, it's very hard to replace them as they are connected to his brain.~

Amy seemed to be taking things very much in stride, considering the ghosts, dragons, nanotech, the fact that she was in a shapeshifting body, and talking to someone with a USB attached to his brain. "Alright, but, please hurry if you can. I'd rather be just about anywhere else."

The nanotech blob didn't have a WiFi connection (they respond to one another on a secure line for synths. High speed data transfer and nearly impossible to crack) but responded to Promethius's attempt to plug in using a USB jack. As he pressed his brain jack into the amorphous mass, he felt a USB port form around the connector and suddenly his perception shifted. He was no longer in his own head, but outside of his own body. Also, he had two new voices in his head, Noah's and Grey's.

"Hello! Hey! Mistral said I should ask you how to grow coffee hydroponically. Can you teach me?"

Promethius found the shift in perspective disorienting (and Grey's chatter distracting) and it took him nearly a full minute to notice that he was now much higher off the ground that he once was... or that he was in a cockpit next to Amy... inside of a 12ft tall bipedal winged humanoid mech.

Prometheus tried to focus on the data that his eyes were giving him, then switching the to information the nanobots were giving him, "You know I have heard some pilots have to do this....My respect for them has increased 10 fold...."

He paused for a moment and focused on only looking through his own eyes for the moment, "Right, step one, home, step two Coffee...."

And with that he did his best to try and guide the Nanobots back towards the carrier. Hopefully without doing a worse job of flying then Noah.

It was hard to maintain your senses in your own head while jacked in to the kaiju system and your perspective constantly wanted to shift to that of the mech. However, the shift in perspective actually made piloting the mech far easier. It was some kind of hyper advanced neural interface that allowed him to control the mech like he did his own body. Soon, he was walking through the trees in his giant mech, heading away from that accursed place... but then he came to a road (he is still hidden by trees) and it occurred to him that he'd come in via orbital drop.

Frankly the idea of a code that would respond to intent was insane, both to code AND the risks...but at this point, it was probably the least insane thing he had heard Noah tell him with his experimental tech in the last few days.

Invisible animals, actual Dragons, travel to the underworld, and solar flares. This is nothing compared to that....but I can't deny I miss selling cybernetics to drug dealers and animal experimentation.

Trying to relax and ignore the fact he was hooked up to a mass of nano machines that collectively probably had the computational power to leave him a brain dead husk, that were in turn linked up to whatever the hell Grey was, and focus on instructing Grey, "We need to go back home. Preferably via flight."

Lets see how that goes.

The Mech then flew into the air, upwards like Noah had before. Below you, you could see cars swerving and crashing with people getting out of cars to stare upwards as they became like ants to your sight.

As you get higher and are no longer bubbled in a protective casing, you can now see the red aurora that covers the planet. It's still day so the colors are muted, but the mass of the solar flare still fires against some sort of planar shielding, creating a show of red dancing lights in the sky.

A few minutes later and the nano-mech descends into the ocean, turning into a sub as it makes its way back to the ship. Once there, it climbs aboard and ejects you out onto the deck into the rain.

Amy yelps in surprise as she is unceremoniously dumped out onto the deck.

Noah finds himself falling somewhat behind the Kaiju system and arrives several minutes later.

He smiled, "Should something happen to me we need someone who can use the kiju enough to get people home. Like it or not Homie, that's you."

He hopped down from the rise. "Madam Amy, may I welcome you to 'The Ark'. An atomic bleeding edge ship unlike any other. There are very few things that could even get it to budge so you are safe as a safe can be." He pulled out his personal slate and offered it to Amy. "Feel free to call your father. "You did very well."

He offered Prom a claw up. "I'm setting up a bunch of bot accounts to post doctored images of a transformer for the new transformers twelve film. Even though they will think it was me in the mech, there will be interference to any truth of the matter. Still, bad ass Sparrow."

The individual is clever, the masses are a fool.

Still,"
He acknowledged, "it is significantly better then nothing." It was at this moment he realised that he had taken Noah's Claw, and talked to Noah's Dragon form, instead of continuing to pretend it didn't exist.

Snatching his hand away like it was burnt, he turned towards the rest of the ship, considering going inside. However their was one last thing he needed to address given the last few days and Lola's recent expenditure. "I need a pay rise if you want me to continue to deal with this kind of thing. I am DEFINITELY not getting paid enough to save the world.

I was supposed to deal with the people you couldn't publicly deal with, make the sales and surgeries you couldn't do for marketing reasons. If you want me to keep doing this...and we live through this meeting with the Concillium, I'll need hazard pay at least."

Once those who wished to listen had gathered, Sal began.

"A lot of things about me clearly don't add up. I may have hinted that I have been around quite some time, yet I don't seem to be extraordinarily skilled, nor do I suffer from the derangements common to my kind, especially as we age. I was a soldier, yet as has been pointed out, I detest killing. My unexpected surname. All of these things, you will see are related."

He presented his dog tags, stamped "Pvt. First Class, Salvatore Lombardi" to the group.

"I was born over two centuries ago, and as a youth, fought in what was then known as The Great War, but is now more commonly called World War I. After my service, being a poor veteran from and immigrant family, then, I joined, out of necessity, the Mafia, where my skills and discipline were valued. I rose quickly in the ranks, and my self-control and loyalty were recognized by a powerful businessman-- in fact a Kindred of the Sotoha bloodline, a Ventrue offshoot descended from a Japanese expatriate with the odd tradition of officially adopting every childe brought into it. He convinced my boss to let me work for him, exclusively, though he was really grooming me to become his childe. He taught me about business, and how we must keep up with an ever-changing world, even though, as I would later discover, we would hardly change, ourselves. From that day, until I met you, I had in fact, never had to use a gun, though I kept up with changes in technology, knowing I could not escape violence forever."

He walked over to his sword, on its stand, and simply looked at it while speaking with his back to the party.

"We are taught the ways of the Samurai, and before the Embrace, swear fealty to a liege, just as the Samurai do. My Sire and Liege was Raymond, and he and I spent several lifetimes moving from one industry to the next, changing identities when necessary, always father and son. Sal Fujita is thus, in essence, as close to a 'real name' as I have. Over time he succumbed to dangerous paranoid delusions, and I knew I could know longer serve him. To a Sotoha, there are only two ways to leave your liege's service, seppuku, or facing the sun."

He knelt, still facing the sword, "I could not in good conscience defy the Sherriff when he and his Hounds came to take my master to task for his breach of the Masquerade, but I was not ready to leave this earth, so I chose seppuku. To a Sotoha, this means essentially, turning Ronin, and my kind take centuries to forgive such a breach of trust. This is even respected by the parent clan, as well as the Invictus, thus, since my mortal identity was dead, and my status among my own kind was zeroed, you found me, shortly after I woke from torpor, homeless and alone, having lost all of the resources, status and contacts I spent centuries amassing, with only the possessions I was buried with. It is only thanks to my own toughness, discipline and strict adherence to a code of Humanity, that I have survived this long without succumbing to madness, as Raymond did. "

He stood, turned, and bowed respectfully to his Cabal. "Though I regret being called to fight once more, I am honored that it should be alongside of you all."

Downtime, Day 3 (0.2.0)

Prometheus sat quietly, knowing full well this wasn't something he knew enough about to interrupt or otherwise analyse until it was all over. Finally he said, "I am glad you chose to share your story with us."

He was silent for a moment before he said, "Forgive me, but I have to ask...I know very little of Samurai culture, but you said what you did counted as a breach of trust. Is their any risk of the Sotoha bloodline coming for you? Or are you simply... Banished?" It was clear he considered this question a delicate matter, and he said the word banished with the utmost sympathy.

Downtime, Day 3 (0.2.0)

Sal lowered his head, but spoke with certainty, "To my bloodline, I am already dead. No matter how long I survive, I can never regain my status. That, and the memory of my greatest failure, are my punishment, though with time, the memory will warp and fade. The shame will likely outlast the understanding of where it came from, and drive me mad, though with any luck, that will be centuries from now. I chose my own unlife over honoring my master. I intend to make that decision worth it."
