Downtime Day 3, Daycare(0.2.0b)

Sal found himself surrounded by children. The first day, they were scared and exhausted, the second day, they mostly recovered from their ordeal, but now they were playing in the hold of the ship. During the second day, Grey had come by with toys for the younger kids. The three eldest were helping to take care of the younger ones. They seemed a bit bored but weren't complaining.

The only complaint that he'd heard was that there was only sweet food in the cafĂ© (Grey had only stocked the shop with sweets and coffee)

All of the children looked at you and then at one another before gathering in a circle around you. Looking, they were varied in age from 8 to 18. They were whispering to one another but most of them looked at you expectantly.

Downtime Day 3, Daycare(0.2.0b)

"Okay, I'll go first..." he regaled them with the ancient Japanese legend of Urashima Taro, a fisherman who rescues a turtle and is rewarded with a special trip under the ocean to visit the kingdom of the Dragon God. The princess gives him a box and tells him that as long as he does not open it, he will stay happy, but of course, he opens the box when he returns to land, and is, of course, punished. He realized how similar it was to stories of the Fae. which he had learned long ago, were more than just, well, fairy tales. He didn't know how aware the children were of their father's world, but figured the lesson might save them a great deal of future heartbreak. "... so, if a magical creature offers you a deal in exchange for happiness, make sure to never break that deal! Anyone else have a tale they'd like to tell?"

The kids each take turns telling ghost stories. Haunted lakes, murderers returned from the dead, and similar ghost stories.

Then, the oldest of the children walks in as the thunder cracks. He looks tired... and it looks as if he's been crying until the tears had left him.

He walks up to the circle and sits down as the other children make room for him, sharing worried glances. Once he sits, he speaks. "I have a ghost story..."

He pauses for a long time, his voice drained of emotion. "Amy's dead... but I just talked to her. My girlfriend's a ghost now."

Some of the kids started to laugh but quickly stopped when the boy just put his head in his hands.

Sal whispers quietly to the nearest small child, "your big brother over there looks like he needs a hug, doesn't he."
