So, I was typing up what Sal was going to tell the prince when I realized I had no reason to tell him anything about the attempt to rescue Dr. Lennis, since it technically never happened and I don't want him to further doubt Sal's sanity. But I liked what I wrote so I'm posting it here.
quote:
"The story you are about to hear is, entirely true, assuming my memories haven't been altered. It also never happened. I'll admit I don't understand everything I witness when dealing with these mages, so some of it is up to whether or not the explanations they give me are true. Our mutual acquaintance, the Portal Mage, the dragon and I went to a place the dragon referred to as a goblin market. The portal mage made a trade that was, apparently a mistake that may have cost a man his life, soul or freedom, I'm not sure, but that seems pretty typical of deals with the so called 'fair folk.' We were to retrieve our acquaintance's beloved from a being that collected memories For reasons I don't fully understand, I was taken alone to a realm where I was tested, tempted. The thing offered to 'cure' my vampirism, 'absolve' my Beast. I refused. If I have yet to earn absolution, why should my Beast get it? It wasn't the Beast that chose to throw away my honor rather than defend Raymond from his-- admittedly just-- fate. When his madness grew too much to bear, I broke my vow to fight for him, so I didn't have to raise my hand against your soldiers, knowing I would die defending a man who no longer deserved my loyalty." Sal stopped for a moment, and closed his eyes. "Apologies. My sin still stings, but its not relevant to the briefing. The realm began to dissolve, and I found myself with the others, as our acquaintance was asked a question, which he claimed would end all life-- everywhere-- if anyone ever answered it. He seemed to believe this, as when faced with the decision to allow the mind of the woman he loved be taken, or answer the question, he refused. As the realm collapsed, he went to search for her memories, as the Portal Mage and I escaped with her body. We went to a place beyond space, time, and frankly, my imagination, where Talion rewrote history, so his beloved never met him, so she never suffered the fate that befell her."
Now I have to make dinner but I'll get to the real briefing shortly.
