The Vigilant (0.2.6b)

Michael, Jay, Nefertiti, and Hans made their way back to Haven, though it was up to Jay to lead the group to someplace they could rest. Night had fallen while the group was searching the church and now the darker beings of the supernatural world stalked the streets.

Even though many of the buildings were now gone, the vines and rubble made the darkness claustrophobic, especially with the street lights out. With only the beams of flashlights to illuminate the night, strange shiftings in the surrounding rubble make it seem as though there is a predator behind every pile.

Thus far, Jay had spent his nights sleeping in wolf-form in order to keep warm. With the addition of two extra bodies that were unable to pierce Michael's wards something more substantial needed to be established. He issued instructions to the two dogs and the spirit accompanying him, asking them to seek for safe shelter as close as possible to Haven itself and set to seeking for an appropriate area himself.

Nefertiti looked at Chance as he left the group to find his own way in the city.  She too wondered if there was any others like her in the city that she could talk with but still she had a lesser chance of finding a being like herself than he would.

As they moved during the night her eyes slightly sparkled as she was allowed to see in the darkness with no trouble and her sight became better while she wished it to be.

Michael was reminded of why he wanted to get back to the Haven before nightfall. It was also a reminder of why it was good to have an Uratha as an ally. He had his flashlight baton in his left hand helping him see while he had a throwing knife ready in his right. He did his best to keep an ear out for danger.

The Vigilant (0.2.6b)

Glancing among his companions to ensure everyone near him already knew his nature, Jay focused for a moment and forced his body into Dalu form, his usually large body expanding to become unnaturally massive. His head bore the hallmark signs of beginning to appear wolfish, the snout extending and ears rising on the skull, but he would retain the ability to speak human languages. The reason for his shift was the heightened senses that came with any of his non-human forms, and once the bone-cracking change had finished he set his nose to the air, seeking the scent Nefertiti spoke of.

OOC: Spending 1 essence to change reflexively and without a roll, hopefully there's no humans around so technically I'm not breaching the oath of secrecy.

16:59, Today: Jay rolled 1 success using 7d10 with the World of Darkness nWoD system with a target of 8, rerolling 10s with rolls of 4,5,6,8,6,5,7.  Perception.

Michael covered the head of the flashlight with one hand as he easily ascended the rocks. He had a general idea of where she was. The moon and stars helped to light at least part of the night. The hunter waited for explanation as he knew that if he shined his light on the area she motioned to it might alert whatever it was to their presence.

Three men in robes carrying torches were loading the bodies into the back of a van and seemed to be almost done.

The hulking Dalu form that Jay currently wore jumped down from the pile with surprising agility and began to move directly towards the men, ensuring any of them heading for his companions would at least have to bend their run around his presence. Yuka and Wraith flanked him, sticking to the shadows with little real expectation of hiding their presence.

"Manifest behind them, brother," he whispered to Red~Muzzle as he approached, his close to 8-foot frame lending credence to Nefertiti's offer of help.

The cultist eyed away from the spirit to the man wolf that was Jay. He was frightened but his words were clear. "In the storm! The Harvester escaped! The Agents must be purified lest the Harvester reap the world clean!"

As Nefertiti pulled the first body from the pile, she could plainly see that it was not human. These creatures had been beaten, burned, shot, stabbed, and dismembered... worse yet, some had survived being thrown on the pile and the collection of dirt and grime on them suggested that they had been exposed to the storm.

… and, yet, many still clung feebly to life, struggling to survive even though their bodies had all but failed.

One of them reached up and grabbed at Nefertiti's arm, looking deeply into her eyes. Though its skin was pale white and it did not look human at all, she could still see fear in its eyes. "Please stop! I don't want... to die."

However, that grasp was the last of its strength and its grip weakened as it seemingly lost consciousness.

Looking to Michael and Jay "What do you think is best for them?  There is some still alive but their bodies are in very bad shape.  I don't think I'm able to heal so many without causing myself harm. the sadness in her eyes was there.

Was a quick death best for them or was there a way to save them. This was all new territory for her and she never seen such creatures before.  They weren't human.

"Michael you've lived here for a time, is there anyone that can help these poor people you know of?" As he spoke the manifested wolf-spirit maintained its pose, now joined by the thickly muscled white form of Yuka and the wiry black of Wraith to form a guarding triangle around him. In his own mind, Jay expected the man to try and run anyway, he had no plans to hurt him no matter what had gone on here, but evil men usually believed evil of others far to easily.

Michael looks down at them in pity. The poor creatures may not even feel pain or understand why this happened. That’s when Nefertiti and Jay asked him some questions. “They were created by humans and given the knowledge to think for themselves. Man’s arrogant attempt at playing God. They don’t have life in the traditional sense, but they do live and have their own mind. They do have a creator or team of creators. There may even be one of their own who has learned to fix and make others. Find any able to walk and help them up. End the others mercifully.”

Michael walks over to the man on the ground and crouches down to get in close. “We don’t want to kill you. Starting talking or we will resort to other methods of persuasion.”

All of the Agents must be purified by the Master lest the Forsaken Contract be fulfilled and all Creation be Reaped by the Harvester! The Profane Geometry infects all that the Agents touch! You see but you are blind, you hear but you are deaf! The Profane Geometry has infiltrated all layers of this world, spread by the Agents of the Harvester as stated by the Forsaken Contract!"

As Nefertiti questioned the robed man, Hans moved over to the pile of synthetic bodies. Most of them had been mutilated far too much to escape the crushing weight of the bodies on top of them... but, once moved and offered a hand, many were able to limp or crawl away. Many were deactivated, staring empty eyed into space resembling far too closely a dead human.

Then there were the less fortunate, those that were too badly damaged to move but still clung desperately to life.

The robed man continues to spew a litany of shrouded doublespeak as he was asked yet another question. "The Master resides within an altar crafted by his Faithful but without a home. He travels from place to place with the Faithful, evading the grasp of the Harvester's Enforcer. Sometimes by truck, sometimes by van, but always with the High Priest."

She was pleased to see that her Gods were still known and spoken of in this time.  But she didn't like the fact that this one was trying to rebuke her from the area by the prayers he was murmuring.

"Don't be causing any problems, yet.  Or do you wish for one of the wolves to feast upon your flesh? she offered a minor threat in hope that he would stop.

Nefertiti choked slightly as she then began to take a few steps away from the man.
"He is foul and the scent of evil reeks from his body as he calls for his Master.

Jay watched the ongoing conversation and mentally shrugged, if Nefertiti wanted to proselytise that was entirely her business, but he simply set to the task of carrying those synthetics that were too injured to move themselves to the nearest shelter. Upon finding the first available one that was not too far gone to speak, he asked simply. "What nourishment can I find for you, and is there some doctor that can help you?" He gave the instruction for the three hounds of his pack to stick with Nefertiti, the big Caucasian Shepherd Yuka seemed to have taken a liking to the woman anyway and set. Once his task was begun he would not quit until it was done, but he did pause briefly to ask Michael. "Can you drive? Think you could find a vehicle we could use to get these poor souls back to Haven?"

OOC: just an FYI, there are hundreds of synths in this area. It was a dumping ground... and there are at least a hundred or so that are still moving. This is going to take a long time to move them all.

As Jay reaches his first synth, it reaches for him. It had likely seen him transform but didn't seem to care. "P-please... water..."

When asked about food, they pointed to the fruits that grew on the vines scattered about the city. "Doctor? The parts store. They have parts, maybe..."

This particular synth looked weak, likely having survived out here for several days exposed and without food or water.

The cultist continues to mutter to himself, ignoring Nefertiti's threats.

The task was daunting, but no more than moving from his nomadic lifestyle to setting up in the city. If he wasn't here to make a positive difference then he was just as bad as the weirdo in the robe. He would not see these being suffer without offering succour, no matter the size of the task. As he worked he made sure to remain close to the ongoing conversation in case things went south, though he figured he would likely be coming back to this place to carry on this work for several days to come. It promised to be a good hunting ground for Red~Muzzle for the next few days, however. A thought occurred to him after a few minutes of work and he returned to the others, towering over the idiot in the robes.
"You have a phone?"

OOC: Unfortunately I wont see them suffer without trying, and I don't have it in me to end them. I do however have a strong back and a good amount of stamina, I can try to do what I can. Besides, what this travesty is doing to the Shadow I can't even imagine!

As the man starts murmuring and Nefertiti says he’s summoning his master, Michael immediately grabs a dismembered foot of one of the synths nearby and shoves the foot into the man’s mouth to prevent him from speaking. “We may be too late if he was calling something. I have protection against such things, but I don’t know if you do. As far as these things go, we can’t help them all. It would take too long. The best we can do is get them some parts and have the most able fix the others. As more and more are fixed, they will be able to get better faster. I don’t really understand what that guy is babbling about, but it can’t be good. Honestly, I’m a little suspect of all the fruit laying around. A bunch of people and buildings just disappeared and the fruit appeared in their place. Makes me wonder if we’re eating people’s essence or not. Go ahead and search him for a phone because he ain’t talking.”

Then she looked over to the unconscious cultist and wondered what was he truly doing or calling.  If only she knew how to determine what he was doing  ..  He was a evil being and she still didn't understand what was happening to her here.

"Should we be leaving quickly before something comes? looking to the others.  She knew nothing about this Harvester and surely the Master was another problem.

Might as well make them come onto our home turf where we can make a better stand. The problem is that there are too many of you who can’t move for us to take with us. You say attaching the parts of the dead and dying would be unpleasant? We’ll get used to it. Life is unpleasant and anything worth having doesn’t come easy. This includes living. Do you understand? If we can get you back to Haven, we can try to get new parts later to replace the ‘dying’ ones. The question is, How much do you really want to live?”He calmly awaited its answer.

The deacon looked at the nearby buildings and pointed them out. “I can’t bring all of you it seems. There’s just too many and it would take to long, but I have an idea. This hunt will continue and there are many more of you than us. You need to learn to defend yourselves if you are going to survive. Move yourselves into the nearby buildings. I can provide some of you with weapons we just acquired to at least fend off a few of the people coming after you. Then we could try to find a parts store for you and more weapons. Once a small squad of you are repaired and equipped, you will be able to grow your colony from there.  People mention Azimov's Laws of Robotics frequently to us and are often surprised that we don't have them. I find it more surprising that they think we would need them."

The damaged synth finished his fruit and crawled to a pile of garbage nearby (he was missing a leg). Once there, he fashioned a makeshift crutch out of a piece of broken pipe. Once he was standing, he began to work with the other synthetics to at least get them moving.

The synthetic paused for a moment, looking out as the mangled masses of synthetics, as if only just now catching the cruel irony of his question. When he looked back at you, his eyes seemed sad. "Nevermind..."

The synth seemed to purposefully leave the question about not finding parts unspoken. That they had the knowledge to repair themselves and the parts readily available from nearby synthetics but instead chose to remain unrepaired spoke volumes more than anything this synth could say to Hans now.
