Finder's Keepers (0.4.0b) (solo) (Maddie)

Thud, Thud, Thud, Thud, came the sound of the pain train. Thud, Thud, Thud, he rounded the corner at a full inhuman speed followed by the other members of his team trailing behind. Once close John yelled out like a Drill Sargent. "I am steak attacking you!" And he plowed into her fighting her weight more than her, aiming to not just take her off her feet but to take her through anything in their path of travel.

Thud, Thud, Thud, "Imma plant me a dumb ass tree in the courtyard!"

John tackled Maddie around the waist and slammed her into the far wall, taking her clean through the ruin and out into the courtyard. As she hit the ground, the monster within grabbed John by the head and began to drag his face along the ground.

"Fuck me, I gotta finally use my sticks." He pulled one out of his belt, a short stick no longer than his elbow to fingertips. When she started dragging his head along the ground his entire body wrapped around her arm and a leg kicked up over her head. Hooking around the other like a slide for life to lock around her head.

He pulled her arm fully from the socket.

He started rubbing the steel toe of his boot on her head giving her a nuggy, "SAY UNCLE! SAY UNCLE!"

This fight was entirely unlike his previous fight with her. She was not some broken doll without a will. This was a creature filled with desperation and purpose. "Give our children BACK!!!"

Even dislocated, the arm still moved with full function as it charged the next wall in the facilitaty, using John's head as a battering ram! His helmet shattered and the wall did too as the creature possessing Maddie charged into the mess hall, scattering the gathered soldiers as she made her way to the actual kitchen area.

John knew where this was going so he bent his back as far as he could and reached down about his hip, shoving two fingers into her nose and pulling back to start staggering her back outside as he continued to strangle her. "There is no winning this fight sweet heart. The moment I'm down its gonna be a dog pile of copper and lead."

The thing inside of Maddie snarled as he stopped her momentum. "WE. DON'T. CARE!!!"

As if to prove it, John felt the arm he had dislocated and that he had used as leverage snap like a twig as she took a swing. A jagged humerus erupted out of her arm flesh and into his exposed face!

With his fingers in her nose he pulled hard. He took the bone to the face and smiled. "I may be a devil dog but goodness, don't take 'throw a dog a bone' so literally sugar lumps." Back out into the courtyard they went. He reached down and with that robotic hand he pinched her hip to dislocate her thigh from her hip.

Ignoring the damage her body had sustained, the thing inside of Maddie grabbed at John's throat. It grunted and thrashed but it was finally beginning to lose its strength.

With her nose as the reins to this wild ride he walked her back closer to her cell again. With that free hand he reached down and removed her other leg from its hip joint socket. It was extremely dangerous to let her control how this tango could move. "You ever go night night? You ever go night night?!"

In his head it was all Go to sleep, Go to sleep, Go to sleep, Go to sleep, Go to sleep, Go to sleep.

Maddie's body had been broken by John (though it was recovering almost as fast as he could inflict harm and her strength seemed to be fading, but the thing within wrenched and fought with every last ounce of its strength, a desperate throttling with every last ounce of strength it possessed. "Children... give them... back..."

The reinforcements had arrived and began to unload nonlethal rounds into Maddie. The thing inside lost consciounsness bot only briefly, requiring sustained fire to keep it down.

John brought out the priest, aching and shaken bun none the worse for wear (nothing a few days rest wouldn't cure). Initially, he objected to the violence being inflicted but John assured him that it was the only way to keep the monster down long enough to complete.

He once more began the rite over a hail of suppressive nonlethal fire, forcing the spirit out of the body... and only once it had physically manifested over Maddie's broken form did the gunfire stop. A few that had not participated in the suppressive fire took out cameras, videoing the exorcism.
--------------------------------------------------------------

Maddie awoke a week later, arm in a cast and feeling more aches than she had likely ever suffered in her entire life. However, the rest of her was strapped to the bed where a medical IV dripped into her. There were also two guards keeping watch over her. As she regained consciousness one of them spoke softly into his radio.

For ??? there was pain. There sharp awful gouts of it roiling from her arm and hips. She wanted to sink back into the warm embrace of unconscious, but she couldn't. Her dreams were of the tower that had once called to her. The tower did not need say, she had been called to endure and set things right. Just before she woke she had scratched a name on the wall. Her own true name.

Coming too Xorb was in control again. Her memories were jumbled bit she was aware of what had happened. Nightwitches! She had naively believed them gone. They very obviously were not. When she was able she fought the pain and opened her eyes, not completely but enough.

She realized she was in a primative healing facility. She knew it to be primative because she wasn't floating in Becta fluid. The primative had stationed a pair of guards, likely she surmized so she did not harm herself. She tried to speak but it sounded like dried leaves. She did manage a sentence, "Does your primitive world have water?"

One of the soldiers took a syringe (without a needle. it was effectively a turkey baster) and put it in a cup of ice water. As he was doing so, the other soldier aimed his weapon at her. The soldier with the water gave her a slow drip to make certain she didn't choke. He repeated this motion a few times until she was finished and the soldier walked backward, never taking his attention off of her. When the first soldier had returned to his position, the other one lowered his weapon.

A few more minutes passed until there was the loud sound of handheld machinery outside. Both soldiers aimed their weapons at her wordlessly as a bolt came unscrewed from the door, then another, then another. Then came the sliding of metal against metal on the other side and the door opened slightly. Two men in black suits with black sunglasses walked through, showing their badges to the soldiers and dismissing them. As the door closed behind, the metal upon metal once more slid and the machinery put the three large bolts back into place.

The two men sat and one pulled out a file from his jacket. "Maddie Brox, unremarkable student, enlisted in the Navy at age 19, achieved the rank of E4 Corpsman by the age 23 but was discharged under provision AR 635-200.

Recently diagnosed with Dissociative Personality Disorder and now recently possessed."

He tucked the file back into his coat. "Do you know why we're here?"

The other agent crossed the room. "I don't see a bewitchment on her crown agent." He was sprinkling a white dust around the outline of the room. "As far as authority it is best to think that agent here has authority over what happens next whereas I have authority over life and death." He held up one finger. "I have a sense for strange things, if I feel a twitch of magic it's my job to stop it."

"They call people like me Hunters. But you knew that already right? Thank the good agent here that the witches hammer cant act on you."

"Now, please tell us about that angry storm cloud the good father pulled out of you."

The other agent nodded. "Yeah, she's no longer under any compulsions."

He pulled out Maddie's light saber and showed it to her. "I'm sure you know what this is. We found it on one of the men who tried to sneak in to save you."

He quickly put the object back into his coat pocket. "You're in a LOT of trouble right now. Starting a magic fight in the middle of the street in the middle of the day is something the other mages would kill you for. I'm not certain just how much of that was from the possession... so we'd like you to tell us your side of the story. Help us help you."

Xorb wasn't stupid enough to fall for their manipulations. "If it were as bad as you claim you wouldn't be in here fishing for some kind of confession. I am a Jedi Knight, though I understand that to primitives like you The Force must seem like magic. before waking up in this prison my last memory is refusing to be ordered about by an invading spirit. Obviously a Nightwitch's doing."

The agent gave his partner the side eye before pulling out a tablet and showing her the screen. It was a live video feed from multiple angles (cop cams) showing her yanking weapons out of the hands of the soldiers that had first approached her. They had video of her trying to set fire to police and leaping a giant wall.

"Understand that we have enough evidence that we don't need to 'fish' for anything. If we turn you over to Consilium, you'll be killed on the spot. If we turn you over to the Malleus Malificarum, you'll be burned at the stake, and if we bring you back with us, you will spend the rest of your life in a cell just like this with wards to prevent you from escaping.

I'm going to ask you one last time. Would you like to tell us your side of the story?"

The other agent piped up. "You can play tough all you want, you can act like you're better than us but your options are rapidly burning up like tinder. If you don't open up then it's the end, game over, the long road."

"Open up and elaborate, go from the start and how you ran into this spirit. If you're a jedi, awesome, then stop talking back to the republic officers like you're a master. So chill Padawan and start from the top."

Xorb sighed in frustration, "This really is the most backwater..." She closed her eyes and lay back. "My fellow Jedi and I were searching the domicile of other Jedi who had fallen in battle. During our search I used the Force to sense Life in the area and this creature emerged from an invisibility. I tell you it was a Nightwitch possessing the form of a young woman. It charged me, screaming about it's children and how I was to help it. I had agreed to help, but our definitions of help were vastly apart. It entered my body against my will. I felt hot and like I was menstruating. It screamed in my head for me to find a dragon and a sorcerer with blue hair. I refused, it took over and attacked my fellow Jedi. I handed over my Light Saber so that they could destroy the creature if need be. That is the last thing I remember."

"So it is a case of a wrong planet, wrong place, wrong time. Can't get a much worse fate than that. In my own case, I ran sour to a group of Yeti and their space craft. Damn year blew up half of Canada. Agent wiggle fingers there pissed off a Nephandi and survived."

"After a bit of processing, your crew will be let go, can't let breaking into a military base off easy. You, however, are another story."
He pulled up his own PDA with a number of feeds, close-up views, drone camera footage. "Fair or not you're already trending. We are working on a virus to have your likeness removed from the internet."

"That being said, are you looking for a job? It would be a trial run. It is a deal offered often to anomalies such as yourself. A way to put out the fire on your ass."

"We don't really have any other option given the amount of resources it will take to clean this slate. Say no and we will leave without a word, we will never darken your doorstep again. Game over Star Fox."

Her frustration had been building the entire time he spoke. It took tremendous effort on her part to remain calm. She only knew he was done because of the silence that lasted longer than a breath. "I once believed Moff Gideon loved the sound of his own voice more than anyone,  yet you have proven that conclusion erroneous."

She opened her eyes and spoke slowly, "I do not understand the meaning behind the barrage of words you utter. My life's purpose is to defend those who lack the means to do so themselves." Her body was growing weary. She would need more sleep soon. "I grow weary. I would appreciate you trying again and using fewer words. It would help if you avoid local colloquialisms. I am not on fire, for instance."
