Theodore McFarlane:
In reply to Varca Lexand (msg # 657):

Teddy nodded at the excellent ideas, glad he only commanded the Vultan. Varca might be smarter than even he apparently was, could be trouble!

HA!  Not even close!.  Varca's clever--maybe even cunning--but he's only of Average Intelligence.  Theo is both smarter & better educated.

But it's likely that (from what he might remember, from back when he lived on Drinax) Theo might consider Varca to be one of the better educated Vespexers he's ever met (but still not as high as Theo's EDU)...

Re: Traveller's Aid Society-3 (OOCs)

Y'know, I'm *quite* sure that the sign-holding escapade was coordinated enough to put the message up back at the far trader where the camera was, since that was the whole point of doing it...

Re: Traveller's Aid Society-3 (OOCs)

That's probably true, but that's not what was posted. Varca was projecting his sign against the 'wall of metal' that was the cruiser... where the scoop was. As I understand it, his rationale was that Miria might have more cameras or at least one that moved and could see it. Since he didn't get a response, his assumption was that she didn't see it.

I was just explaining why she may not have seen it.

Or, y'know, you could suppose that the characters aren't complete idiots and would project it in the right place/have the right spot pointed out by the one(s) who've seen the camera.

Re: Traveller's Aid Society-3 (OOCs)

In reply to Zhouth (msg # 39):

Yeah, that was my operational premise.  Zhouth informed us that he'd "spotted" a camera--something to the effect of "there's a camera up there--don't look at it!"--which I/Varca took to mean that the camera was mounted some place where not only could Zhouth see it, but that it could see us.

And Varca never did look for that camera, before he projected the message.  Like I said, he just assumed that if one of us could see it, then it could see us.

That said, I'm not discounting the (probably really good) possibility that that camera may have nothing to with Miria--for all Varca knows, it was put there years ago by somebody who is now dead.  Which would fit with what Viridian is saying.

I've just been basing Varca's actions on him asking himself "If I were hiding here, how would I protect myself?" -- and Varca would definitely slap a bunch of Video Buttons around a place where he was gonna be sleeping ... 'cuz, y'know ... he's a paranoid lunatic ^_^

Varca was just following the information that Stitch gave us -- and Stich implied that once we found "The Wall" we'd be where we needed to be to get access to Silverhand...

Oh, yeah ... I kinda forgot that.  Huh.

Maybe we should re-think going into the fuel scoop ... maybe Silverhand, or her Crew, have marked the path, in there, somehow...

But then ... Stitch is a Blissed-Out druggie ... he could have gotten the directions wrong ... or intentionally sent us into a trap...

And Zhouth is a trained observer ...  If Varca had to trust the judgement of one over the other ... he'd choose to trust Zhouth ...

Aaaah ... Screw it!  Varca is gonna just call Aaron and have him bring Vultan over here and put a few missiles into the place ...

"I just love the smell of burning starships in the morning!  It smells like--Oh Crap!  Take Cover!"

Re: Traveller's Aid Society-3 (OOCs)

I've been under the weather for the past two weeks with insufficient mental energy to post, and then Thursday morning the AC went out so I've been melting in 90-degree heat for the past 4 days. Tech finally got here yesterday and the AC was working fine when he left, but now it's out again! Aaargh!

Re: Traveller's Aid Society-3 (OOCs)

Okay, so, from StarMaster:

Yes, the airlock of the Fat Trader wreck is visible from the outside. It isn't blocked by debris in any way. But it's up about 20 feet.

The only other airlock visible is one at ground level on the ship below the Fat Trader. It's partially blocked by debris... in particular, a refrigerator on its side and half buried in the ground, plus the torso of some robot.

It's not 'way up' there, but it wasn't on the ground. It was on top of another ship about two decks high, so maybe the upper one or two decks collapsed under the weight of the Fat Trader. It's at a slight angle, both down at the bow and to starboard.

So we've all been a bit off (one way or another) on the location, height, and degree of obstruction involved. Since it would be impractical to go back and completely rewrite our conversations, let's just roll with a touch of comic correction and pretending that we were talking about things the right way around all along.

Tertiary Qualifications: Advocate, Mechanic, Comms, Steward, Vacc Suit, Drive
Background Skills: Swimming; Animals, Survival, Carouse

So ... completely outta the blue ... I got a question for ya, Ghent ...

Ghent and Viridian obviously have a Connection in their backgrounds -- so, is the skill benefit you got from that Connection listed abouve, or have you not picked that, yet?

'Cuz ... if ya haven't picked that Skill, yet ... can I offer a suggestion for such a Skill...?

     Streetwise.

While I'm certain that having a Broker-slash-Advocate on-board will be useful ... what we really need is a Fence!

Y'know ... somebody who can help us to sell-off all the stuff we ... acquire ... for which we don't, exactly, have any receipts ... Oh! ... and also to get stuff for us ... that we probably shouldn't be having ... *wink-wink-nudge-nudge*

Hmm. There are a couple of exceptions, but of those on the roster, the people with better Streetwise tend to have bad EDU and SOC.

You know what? I’m not sure to be honest. I rolled the skills and landed with the character I got, and not knowing much about the game…I just rolled with it. GM can confirm if we included something for the connection.

It doesn't look like you picked up a Connection skill. It also doesn't look like you picked two options from the Campaign Skill Package (see Character Generation thread)>

Re: Traveller's Aid Society-3 (OOCs)

In reply to Ghent Bel-Andis (msg # 54):

Oh yeah...

That's one of Mongoose Travellers better ideas!

They reward Players for figuring out how they might have known each other -- to think of ways that they can involve themselves with each other.

Then, when you and another Player come up with a good "connection" story, each of you can gain an additional Skill at Level/1.  You can each choose a different skill, if you want, and the skill that you choose does not have to be "relevant" to how the two of you met--although, if you do choose a skill that's relevant to the connection story, it makes that story better!

This Rule doesn't mention this possibility ... but on a couple of occasions, when I couldn't decide on any new skill that I wanted to get, I asked the Referee if I could just add that +1 level to a skill I already had.  One Ref said "yeah, whatever" while another said I could, but only to a skill that I had at Level/0....

You can make Connections with as many other players as you want, but the Connections Rule will only allow you to gain a total of 2 Skills, in this way.

I hope you'll consider Streetwise -- a couple of us have it, so we can find "those kinda folks", but we're not specialized Deal Makers.  So, we really could use a "wheeler dealer" for them "shady" deals ^_^

Re: Traveller's Aid Society-3 (OOCs)

Not only is it the rule in the Mongoose CRB, but it's also in the Character Generation thread here. Your Connection skill is at +1 ranks, up to a max of 3 Ranks in the skill.
