OCD too? It's slow. Starmaster only checks a few times a week. Varca too. I check to see if something posted about 20 or 30 times a day to only be disappointed 90% of the time. :-(

  Corrected my post a bit but the idea remains the same.

  I figure that there'll be a table set up rather than the stuff being set out on a bunch of rusted-out missile racks. Even if the latter is maybe more in keeping with the decor that the Vespexers are used to...

     While I wasn't assuming an actual "table", per se, I was assuming that, with the wreckage of the ventral missile turret having been removed (the ship write-up did say the wreckage had been removed, and the hatch to the turret was sealed--didn't it?) that, similarly, the un-needed (and possibly damaged, as well) missile feed system was also removed from this chamber.  Thus we might be using it as an auxiliary cargo store room, maybe even setting it out as some kind of workshop, or whatever.

     Whatever the case, I was just assuming that there were, at least, a couple of crates in here, pushed together, with a table cloth tossed over them, and the bottles and mugs set on that.  Something of that nature.

     That was exactly the result I was hoping for!  Bravo, Buddy!  Bravo.

     Vespexer society is totally--even obsessively--focused on Survival.  And to survive in a dangerous environment, you have to be equally dangerous.

     And that's what all the posturing is about--bragging about how "dangerous" you are.  And the counter-posturing is about either denying that "dangerousness", or belittling it as a way to show that they are more dangerous than you.

     It's just like Vikings bragging about all the "battles" they've been in...or that scene in the movie Lawrence of Arabia, where Anthony Quinn's character brags about having gotten "...seven Great Wounds!" in combat, in order to convey what a bad-ass he is.

     Varca just gave you guys Reputations as Bad Asses!  It doesn't matter if it's true, or if it's all bullshit!  These idiots have no way to confirm it.  And if they call you on it, you just do exactly like Zhouth just did--you don't back down, you stare 'em in the eye, and you just laugh at their puny efforts to put you down!

     Okay, serious discussion....

     I--but not Varca, yet--have brought up, here and there, the possibility of, maybe, recruiting/hiring some of these Stregor clansfolk as....well, they wouldn't be called "Marines"...."Pirate Muscle"?....Cannon Fodder Thugs?....extra Combat Troops and/or Stevedores.

Pros & Cons:
Pro: they're here.
Pro: they already have some combat training.
Pro: they already have some suit training.
Pro: they are Vespexers--i.e., born scroungers

Con: no Space experience
Con: could be bad if they find out we're, in any way, working for the King
Con: very "rough around the edges"
Con: they are Vespexers--i.e., easily associated with Drinax


     As for "where will we put them?", well, In Game, I think we may be standing in the answer to that question...we have that rather large "Missile Storage Bay" but we have no missile launchers, so, no missiles, therefore, no need for a "missile storage bay".  We could convert some/all of that space into Barracks.

     I suggest this, only because I don't think we could convince them to let us put them in cold storage, and only bring them out when we needed them....  ^_^

     So, before I go and make such an offer, anyone want to put in their two credits worth?  Yea or Nay?  Additional ideas?

  We have spare stateroom capacity right now. No need for barracks conversion just yet.

  However, we've got two problems with the idea: they're not exactly loyal, being culturally opportunistic; and our credibility rests on seeming like violent crazies, which won't hold up for very long if they're around to see our normal routines. That's a bad combination.

  On the other hand, we might be able to employ them as assets somewhere else. They know how to scavenge, and there have to be better places to scavenge than this. As long as they're supplied and we turn up (or send someone to turn up) to collect and resupply every now and then, with their clan getting a cut? That's one option. An 'independent' mercenary force that just happens to pass along news and useful information (like prime targets for pirating? Deploy them somewhere away from Drinax to set up a supply base (scavenged or otherwise) that we can use when heading straight back to the palace would be a bad idea?

  Any which way, there has to be enough benefit to them and their clan to make it tempting without there being more benefit in just trying to take the ship themselves.

  We don't have to come up with something specific right now, though. We've already got the 'scavenge the wreckage' thing going, which isn't going to happen overnight - leave open the idea that we're planning to set things up on other worlds once the ship is back in action and they'll get first dibs at those when the time comes?
