Spugonior's Spellbook

As the wagon makes its way along the north road, The rain lightly falls, the morning breeze and chilled air from the north blows south. The North road has seen its fare share of use, large wagon ruts in the road make the trip bumpy yet bearable. As the wagon nears the spot on the map where Spugnoir said the ambush happened, you catch the scent of sulfur in the air, and the smell of burnt charred wood. You can see the remains of a cart or small wagon up ahead in the middle of the road, a broken unburnt wheel lies next to the charred remains of the cart, and a few weapons are haphazardly strewn about. A cracked charred barrel stands upright next to the cart. The charred area of the ground near the road also looks to be scorchmarks from some sort of explosion. Even from this vantage you can see a visible trail of footprints of small humanoids leading from the edge of the road off into the forest towards Deklo Grove.

Those with the Alertness Proficiency will notice that this looks to be a prime ambush area, with how the surrounding trees and rocks are positioned.

Althiöf is on the cart, right behind the horse, on the left side.  If he had to roll the large cast back a bit to make room and then chock the cask again, he would.

He's got his waterskin out, pretending it's full of wine.  He acted inebriated and sung an old drinking song out loudly to alert anyone nearby in the forest as to their location.  When finished, he started it again, and again, and again...

(OOC: I you'd like to hear it to music:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzYof5GjhQ8 )

A long time ago, way back in history,
when all there was to drink was nothin but cups of tea.
Along came a man by the name of Charlie Mops,
and he invented a wonderful drink and he made it out of hops.

He must have been an admiral a sultan or a king,
and to his praises we shall always sing.
Look what he has done for us he's filled us up with cheer!
Lord bless Charlie Mops, the man who invented beer beer beer

The Drunken Rat, the Akam Drum, the Trowlas Pub as well
one thing you can be sure of, its Charlie's beer they sell
so all ye lads a lasses at eleven O'clock ye stop

Virius took in the sights of the wrecked wagon, the scorch marks and debris that littered the area.  And then there was the smell.  Was that sulfur?  Something wasn't adding up.

"What in the nine hells?" The young mage's eyes narrowed as he reviewed the chaotic aftermath of the ambush.

He dismounted the wagon and began to examine the scene more thoroughly.

As Virius leaves the wagon and starts investigating the scene of the ambush, although he can't make out if any spells were used, he can tell that the scorch mark seems to have been created from a broken flask, its contents likely a concoction of alchemist fire, that exploded. Other than a few broken weapons, an axe head with a broken handle, and a rusted sword, not much is in the debris that you can make out. There is no hiding the trail that is leading towards Deklo Grove though.

The tracks clearly go off towards Deklo Grove, you can see about seven different sets of footprints. It is clearly Goblin from the size and from what you've seen before. It looks like two of the goblins may have been dragging something heavy, a bag of potatoes maybe, or something else. You can see fibers of a sack that looks to have snagged on the exposed roots.

Re: Spugonior's Spellbook

Virius hadn't even considered that this could be the site of some other ambush.  When Hollen mentioned that the tracks were recently made, it didn't take long for the party to assume the worst ... that whomever had been defending this wagon had been carried away by their assailants.

He shook his head as if to clear it of unwelcome thoughts.  Thoughts of helpless prisoners being dragged away to fates unknown.

"I'm with you, gentlemen."  He said with a steady voice.  "We don't know if any of these victims yet live, but if there's even a glimmer of hope that they make it out of the Deklo alive ... it lies squarely with us to see it done."

He nods to no one in particular, more to convince himself, if anything.  While it wasn't quite how he'd imagined it ... this was the adventure he'd been steeling himself for.

The tracks lead further into from the road and towards Deklo Grove, as you enter the forest, the canopy above shadows the sun and the forest takes on a gloomed look. Patches of sunlight shine down, its not dark, but its not bright anymore either. The canopy is thick. The ground also changes, two feet off the ground a fog lingers on the forests floor. Giving then entire forest a very eerie feeling. You also start to notice spiderwebs among the trees. A few mundane spiders seem to have made hundreds of small nests all over this section of the forest.

The Tracks continue and you eventually get to a point where they cross a small creek. The tracks continue down the edge of the rocky creek, thus preventing the wagon from continuing.

Up ahead though you see that the creek leads into a small cavern, a cliff juts from an outcropping. The entrance of the cavern has two large wooden palisade doors built with Deklo Timbers. The entrance of looks to be slightly ajar. The creek runs into the cavern through the two large doors.

Once Hollen squeezes trough the opening in the timbers, its enough to alert the Goblins within. No trap was set, no alarm, the group had been foiled by their scent. The companions are betrayed by their scent, upon entering the cavern. A worg which sits just inside the cavern starts barking alerting the goblins to intruders. Snarling and snapping the Worg tries to defend the entrance. Those that make it inside the entrance can see the worg, mange covering most of its body, patches of hair missing. And four goblins, armed with shortswords. The cavern widens inside and goes back about seventy feet before darkness overtakes your vision. The Dwarves are able to see further into the cavern and notice that its rounds a corner, with another set of palisade timbers.

First Group Combat, Roll Initiative. Remember to factor in casting times, and Weapon Speed. Initiative is 1d10+Casting Speed/Weapon Speed. You are looking to roll low. You were not able to surprise the goblins due to the worg detecting you all before combat.

But Virius doubted it would pose as much of a threat if it could not see.

He focused his thoughts inward and brought one of his incantations to bear.  He would cause a blinding, brilliant, radiance to form itself upon he very sight organs of the beast, robbing it of vision!

He leveled a finger at the canine beast, and spoke the words that would complete the spell.

Virius you start casting your spell and target the Worg. You are able to finish the casting and the spell goes off right before the Worg looks like its going to attack. The worg fails its save vs spell and the spell takes effect, blinding the Worg. For the next turn the worg is blinded with light on its eyes.

The Worg now blinded tries to bite out towards Hollen using its other senses to try and get a direction. The worg misses entirely the bite snapping no where near the Ranger.

The Goblins moves up and get into Melee position, their shortswords ready to attack. One of them swings at Hollen missing the Ranger. Another Goblin comes in with an attack on Hollen from the right. This Goblin also misses the Ranger. A Third Goblin rushes Korkos and attacks. The charging goblin misses the Dwarf!. The Fourth Goblin moves towards the group but doesn't have a chance to attack.

We are using Weapon Speeds and casting times for Initiative Modifiers. So no one really has a Base Initiative that we can roll or stick with each turn. Plus casting times make somethings take longer, also weapons with high speed factors. For now lets roll Initiative each Round.

One of the goblins went down in the previous Round, the others are still determined to fight back the group, their morale is not shaken.

Virius kept a watchful eye on the progress of the melee.  Hollen, Korkas and Althiöf were all employing their weapons to deadly effect and so long as the tide of battle stayed with the heroes ... Virius would marshal his strength and use it only sparingly.  For unlike a warrior with a length of steel ... wizards could only tap into so much power before they were spent.

The rasp of steel sang out as the young mage drew his dagger, if any goblins broke through the line ... they would not find him completely defenseless.

Korkas, Your primary attack misses, but you are able to slip the other dagger into the Goblins face, killing it dead! One of the Goblins tries to strike Hollen again, and the other goes for Korkas. The Goblin manages to take his shortsword and slide it under an exposed area of armor and stab Hollen. Blood drips from the shortsword, as the others can tell that Hollen is in bad shape. The Goblin on Korkas attacks and misses.

Rotted food, flea and tick infested hides, the group makes it to what looks like a sleeping area across some of the small wooden bridges. Further into the cavern they can see another wooden palisade set of timbers. This set of timbers though is closed. You can see small holes in the timbers enough for arrows to go through. It sorta reminds you of murderholes in a castle. You can hear scrambling coming from behind the fence.

Suddenly a potion is flung over the top of the wall and smashes into the ground on the other side (R13) The potion shatters and a noxious cloud of green smoke wafts away from it, but quickly dissipates. You can hear laughing coming from the other side of the wall.

On the other Side

Ali, you can hear the goblins moving around, they are rummaging through something near you, you can hear the clinking of your glassware potion bottles as they are moving things around likely in your bag. One of them laughs and moves away from you. You hear the shattering sound of one of your potions as it smashes against the ground.

Searching the slain goblins, besides the flea infested leather scraps of armor they area wearing and the rusted, pitted in some cases, shortswords. They don't seem to carry any personal belongings on them. But as you move further into the cavern and get to the first set of sleeping mats. You can see small stashes of things piled up. As you rummage through them you find. Forty three silver coins in total, and an assortment of what goblins would call trinkets, pieces of bone, teeth, wood items that don't have any value to the adventurers but might have had some sort of keepsake value to the goblins.

Althiöf tried to move quietly to near the palisade (S14).

He examined the spaces in the palisade to see how effective shooting through the gaps from his side would be.  He also looked to see if there was a door in the palisade.

Additionally, he looked west from his new position to see what was down the corridor.

Althiöf moves up towards the timbers and listens to the other side. He can hear the sounds of someone moaning, but muffled by the sounds of a bag possibly being over their head. You can hear the maniacal laughs of goblins as well. Painted with black soot on the timbers is the head of a goblin with eyes that look to be fresh blood. Under the head is two roughly painted bloody axes.

Everyone else is able to move forward also, after searching the bedding areas and collecting the silver coins. Althiöf you are able to see down the corridor into the deeper parts of the Cavern, You can see more bridges, and more creek, and the structure seems to open up even more.

Other than the laughing of the Goblins, and the moaning sounds of someone clearly tied up. The goblins do not seem to be advancing, the are holding their ground behind the timbers. Possibly waiting for an ambush once anyone passes through.

Those that have the NWP: Religon if you succeed on the Proficiency Check, you will know this image to be that of Khurgorbaeyag, the Patron God of Goblins, and Maglubiyet's chief lieutenant.

As Korkas checks the wooden timbers, they do not go down into the water of the creek, so it does look like its possible to wade into the water and under the wooden timbers, through the creek. And for a Dwarf it would be easier due to their size.

Althiof though moves up ahead and through the opening in the timbers and gets a better view of the cavern ahead. The Goblins on the other side of the wall obviously didn't hear the movement by the Dwarf and are caught off guard as he comes through the timbered entrance. They knew the party was nearby but didn't think they had made it this far down yet. The rest of the group moves ahead as well. Trying to keep distance between each other as to not get hit by incoming flying potions.

Althiof is able to see that the cavern opens up father large, and some of it is still hidden from his view as another turn happens. The walls of the massive cavern are scrawled with more graffiti showing the dark face of Khurgorbaeyag, and bloody axes. The creek opens into a larger pool of water which is black and stagnant. Across the pool of water a large black rock juts from the pool, it looks to have been chiseled down to look like the head of a goblin. Two red gemstones glint from the lantern light, reflecting and giving it a very eerie appearance.

To the North of the cavern it opens into another area across the small creek. You can see a set of rusted bars making what looks to be a holding cell of some sort. Two Goblins stand guard near the entrance. You can see someone bound with a cover over their head inside the small area, they are the source of the moaning sounds. Two more goblins near the south wall of timbers also stand guard.

Althiof you are able to surprise the Goblins when you come through the entrance.

The surprising group receives one round of attacks with melee, missile, or magical items. They cannot use these moments of surprise to cast spells. The second effect of surprise is that the surprised characters lose all AC bonuses for high Dexterity during that instant of surprise. The surprised characters are dumbfounded by the attack. Instead of ducking and countering, they're just standing there rather flat-footed. Since they don't grasp the situation, they cannot avoid the hazards and dangers very well.

We are in combat movement still. Each of you can do a surprise action, including movement.

Althiof rushes over and starts with the locks on the gate. Once closer he can make out the trapped individual inside, A tall lanky male dressed in a faded blue cloak covering his head and face some, blue short and blue pants in soft traveling boots. A burlap sack lays next to him, and his mouth is gagged, he is trying to free himself from his binds but its not looking like its working. Althiof you will successfully pick the Quality lock without messing it up, but wont finish until your turn next Round. Korkas goes and swings with his knives again, both attacks miss the goblin. Stormrider tries to attack the Goblin to the south and also misses, the shifty little fellow manages to avoid the attack. Virius moves further into the Cavern to get a better look around. His human sight though isn't enough to pierce the darkness further south. The Lantern light only extending so far. Hollen moves up to V7 and attacks the goblin. Hollen manages to trip himself up with the attack against the goblin, and falls to the ground having slipped on some of the slippery rocks near the water. (Fumble, looses next Turn.)

The Goblins attack, The one to the north attacks Korkas with its shortsword. The shortsword bites into the Dwarf and causes a nasty wound. Korkas you take 5 damage. The Goblin to the south, with three warriors trying to attack it, passes his morale, and swings on, targeting Kossoth with his shortsword. The attack misses entirely the Dervish easily sidestepping it.

Kossoth retaliates with a swift jab of his double spear. The Goblin is hit and the attack brings the goblin to the ground. Yaotl unleashes her Sling stone from her staff, the stone flies towards the Goblin in Melee with Korkas and strikes the wall behind it, missing its target. Ali the captive spends his time trying to break out of the bindings but fails yet again.

Initiative & Actions, Round #2

Virius Tesh - 1 (Instructions In Post. Sleep goes off on 2.)
Stormrider Truesight - 3 (Attacks Goblin.)
Goblins - 3 (Attack w/ Shortswords.)
Althiof Morad - 5 (No attack.)
Hollen Jeth - 6 (Attack w/ Longsword.)
Kossoth Zan - 8 (Double Spear Attack.)
Yaotl Chimalma - 22 (Moves to S10 to block Path. Staff-Sling Attack.)
Korkas Stonedelver - 0 (Fumbled last Round, skips current Round.)
Ali Ansari - 0 (No Action unless unbound.)

Virius moves down and around the corner. And is faced with three Goblins, another Worg and a Hobgoblin, who looks to be in command!. The cavern also has an assortment of stolen crates, barrels, and other stuff strewn about the ground. You can also clearly see a book resting on one of the crates. Spugonior's Spellbook, from the description he gave you!

You drop your sleep spell, luckily for you you are able to swiftly cast your spell before anyone else has a chance to go. Your sleep spell can catch all of them together. Three of the Goblins fall to sleep, as does the Worg. The Hobgoblin looks to be a Chief, and is now pissed!.

Stormrider moves up and swings at the Goblin with the Dwarves. The attack misses. The Goblin turns his attention to Stormrider and jabs his shortsword towards him. The blade strikes true and does some damage. (5 Damage to Stormrider.)

The Hobgoblin unaffected by the Sleep spell moves towards Virius. Drawing his Longsword. The Hobgoblin moves with purpose, his longsword comes within an inch of striking Virius' head. The Hobgoblin missing.

Althiof Your Action, Then I will sumarize the rest of the round.

You can affect 2d4 with your Sleep spell. I messed up the roll and did 4d4, I am just going to take the first two rolls, the 2,4 for a total of 6HD. Sleep does not have a Saving Throw, so they do not get to counter the spell.

Goblins - 3 (Attack w/ Shortswords.)

Korkas Stonedelver - 0 (Fumbled last Round, skips current Round.)
Ali Ansari - 0 (No Action unless unbound.)

Althiof moves into the caged area and starts removing Ali's bonds. Hollen watches the Mage run off towards the darkness and shakes his head, running after him. He runs up to the Hobgoblin and swings his sword. The Ranger misses his attack. Kossoth moves up with his double spear and gets into position to defend the Mage if necessary, and jabs at the Hobgoblin. The double spear comes extremely close to hitting the hobgoblin, but it only scratches his armor. Yaotl tries to sling-staff the Goblin over towards the cage. The stone smacks the goblin in the side of the head knocking it out. Korkas continues to recover from his misstep and Ali is untied.

Re: Spugonior's Spellbook

Virius had followed the curving path of the dank cavern, his lantern bobbing and casting irregular shadows all the while.  The sounds of the melee rang out behind him, the shadows of the cave threatened to stretch on forever.  Then his light met the luminous eyes of the goblins, another warg and their cruel taskmaster.

A hobgoblin!  As cruel as the day was long ... and twice as mean.

Virius had been half-expecting there to be some sort of leadership waiting deeper within the cave.  The goblins they had found were standing guard duty after all ... that meant that someone else had been calling the shots.  But faced as he was with this new threat ... time was of the essence.

For all of his naiveté, the young historian was not entirely without a plan.  He was a mage of the Wizardholme after all.  With the right Words, with enough practice ... there were no heights he could not achieve.  No task that would not fall to his will.

The Suel nobleman reached into his pouch and grabbed a pinch of fine sand, he raised his hand and held it our toward the hobgoblin and his goons.  As he sprinkled the sand between his fingertips, his fingers assumed Nerrag's fourth gesture ... a complex articulation of the digits that was a precursor of most minor enchantments.

Then he said the words which would harness the magic, guide it, funnel it into its purpose.

"Somnus Alia."

One by one the goblins — indeed, the warg as well — collapsed where they stood.  Falling into a deep and dreamless slumber. The hobgoblin, however, was not affected by the magics.  This was not good.

The brute snarled and closed the distance between Virius and he faster than the wizard would have thought possible.  His blade sang as it came through the air, meaning to part head from shoulders but Virius danced (well, less-than-artfully stumbled) out of reach.

As Kossoth and Hollen came up to his side, Virius continued to withdraw.

"T-thanks."  He said with shaky breath.

Seeing that the situation before her is well in hand, she swiftly draws her knife, a thing that seems to have seen leagues more use pairing fruit than butchering, and swiftly forges on ahead to join the others. She steals a quick glance at the strange objects in the side of the cove (X and Y 3) then hurries onward to the room.
With the sounds of snoring and gasping echoing throughout the room, Yaotl quickly decides to do what must be done and finish off whichever beast she can. She approaches (Y13) with intent.

Althiof Morad searches the caged area, and finds nothing of value or usefulness. Storm moves deeper into the shadows of the cavern towards the others. The Hobgoblin swings his sword at Hollen, connecting with the blade across the neck of the Ranger, slicing leaving a major bloody wound. Hollen You take 11 damage. Ali you are able to get up and look out of the cage, while the Dwarf goes about searching the cage for anything left of value or usefulness, You can hear the clanging of steel further into the cavern but because of the darkness and the curve in the cavern you can't make out much. You do see others moving around the cavern heading that direction. Korkas stabs the unconscious goblin, killing it instantly. Virius withdraws away from the fight, as he watches Hollen go down from the Hobgoblins longsword. Hollen falls to the ground clutching his neck as blood spurts from the wound. Yaotl moves up to one of the goblins, with her dagger and jabs it into the creatures head, killing it. Kossoth attacks the Hobgoblin and and his double spear bounces again off the protective armor.

Re: Spugonior's Spellbook

Virius breaths a sigh of relief as he sees that the heroes had made their way into the deepest part of the cavern.  Kneeling, he used his dagger to end the sleeping goblin's life.  It's blood slicked his blade and it shone grimly in the lamp light.  It was the first time it had been used.  As he walked over toward the warg, he noticed Yaotl cast Burning Hands.. He had heard of this spell but had yet to master it.

The Olman is a mage! The realization hit him.  He had assumed that she was some sort of holy woman, her headdress just some sort of ceremonial garb.  It showed how little he truly knew about her culture.  His eyes darted toward the wizardess then, more out of professional curiosity than anything else.  Did she cast spells using the same rigid hand movements that the Wizardholme had drilled the young noble.  Were her incantations the same?

Magic, of course, was universal.  There were myriad ways of accessing it, however.  Perhaps the Olman people had found different, more elegant ways in which to work their charms.  Virius made a mental note to confer with his new colleague when they had a moment's rest.

Storm moves over and reaches down to Touch Hollen, starting his prayer for Cure light wounds. Kossoth tries to attack the Hobgoblin (Attack Roll to hit 4, misses.) His Sword swinging and missing the Hobgoblin. Ali moves further into the cavern system, and around the corner. He notices his bag and a few of his items sitting ontop of a nearby Barrel (W11) And moves over to them to gather them up. Stormrider's cure spell finishes as he touches Hollen. Hollen gains 4 Hitpoints, and becomes conscious. Althiof moves further into the Cavern towards the sounds of fighting, now getting his first view of the Hobgoblin. Korkas attacks the Hobgoblin your primary attack glances off the armor of the hobgoblin, and your secondary attack misses. Virius leans down and kills one of the sleeping goblins and then moves towards the sleeping worg. Yaotl moves up and positions herself to case burning hands on the Hobgoblin. The Hobgoblin goes to attack Kossoth, just as his blade strikes the desert warrior, the flames from Yaotl engulf the Hobgoblin. The flames from the spell don't look to effect the Hobgoblin as much as it normally would have. (Hobgoblin takes 2 damage.) The Blade of the Hobgoblin still strikes Kossoth, and does a light wound. (Kossoth take 4 damage.). Hollen still prone on the ground tries to stand and swing his sword towards the Hobgoblin. Still feeling like crap, the Ranger misses his swing. The remaining goblin continues to snooze through the fight, as well as the worg.

"You shall claim no more blood on this soil foul one." She says as the Hobgoblin shrugs off her flames. "[Language unknown: Lataarur cealni nt, N enst us mifi taosce pr icaoerrea p. Ons weee olion esev, Onsoveiou t inle olonon]."

The Olman woman steps back from the melee and as she does so, two small figurines of ancient bone are in her place. A small hum permeates the cavern as the figures grow magnitudes in size into sleek black jaguars of a full grown nature. Each are marked with lightly luminescent runes arching throughout their backs that only enhances their natural grace.

The foremost one sees the threat ahead of it and pounces, all attacks in a flurry as the cat still grows to its form causing the hobgoblin to reel. The second leaps over its brother and narrowly misses it's jaws closing around the creature's neck. However due to the hobgoblin being harried on all sides, a rear claw rakes across it's chest and sends out a spurt of blood.

Yaotl moves to Z15, Jaguar #1 to AA14, Jaguar #2 to AB15.

12:48, Today: Secret Roll: Yaotl Chimalma rolled 8 using 1d10 with rolls of 8.  Initiative of the Jungle.

Jaguar #1 Attacks: Claw (Miss), Claw (Miss), Bite (Miss)

Jaguar #2 Attacks: Claw (Miss), Claw (Hit 2 damage), Bite (Miss)

Kossoth reeled for a moment as the blade of the Hobgoblin made it past his nimble movements and then beyond that to find one of the many spots that the hard leather wasn't protecting his body.  Spinning the spear in his one hand it almost looked defensive for a moment before the end stabbed outward.  Unfortunately the extra distance he'd backed off meant the thrust ended before it pierced the skin of the creature.

Alright!, Korkas, you are able to slash at the Hobgoblin with both of your knives, but both fail to hit the Hobgoblin, it parrying the blows away. The Hobgoblin swings and tries to hit Kossoth but his attack misses the skillful dodger. Hollen swings at the Hobgoblin giving it his all. Hollen misses with his attack. Althiof manages to strike a blow against the Hobgoblin from behind inflicting another wound. Yaotl tosses down her Figurines of Wondrous power and two sleek black jaquars grow from the statues. Ali moves and collects his items off the barrel and readies his weapon. The Jaguar's move into position and attack, one of them misses, while another strikes with an attack. Virius moves towards the Worg and stabs it with his dagger (Critical doing a total of 8 damage.) but the wound isn't enough to kill the beast, it wakes and starts to snarl and growl. Kossoth misses with his attack against the Hobgoblin. Stormrider takes a moment to collect himself. The Goblin stirs but doesn't wake up. The Worg snaps at the Mage with a bite. The bite connects against the unarmored mage, and causes a massive wound. (Virius takes 5 damage from the Bite.) The attack brings down the Mage, the wound bleeding, the Mage unconscious and hovering over deaths door.

Yaotl hears the vicious growling behind her and she turns with a start to find the grizzly scene behind her.
With barely a moment's hesitation, mutterings of death in languages long lost fly from her lips and once more fires spring from her hands.
"Itzu with me!" She calls out as she springs forth alighting the worg with flames that seem to dance with life.
The brother, Itzu, rounds the worg and takes advantage of the worg's exposed flank as it is focused on Yaotl. Ohm, the sister remains focused on the Hobgoblin as it's blood still mars her claws.

Yaotl moves to X14 and casts Burning Hands, the jaguar that was at AA14 moves to X16 and attacks.

17:32, Today: Yaotl Chimalma rolled 3 using 1d10+1 with rolls of 2 for initiative.

17:33, Today: Yaotl Chimalma rolled 3 using 1d3+2 with rolls of 1.  BH Damage.

Ohm does 1 point of damage against the Hobgoblin.

Itzu crits on the worg on its bite and manages a hit with a claw doing a total of 16 points of damage.

After a moment of lowering their heads to their perspective cups, Yaotl whispers in their ear and they begin the revert.  She stands up, leaving the cups on the floor, and takes time to examine in the area around them. Paying special attention to the small cove in area XY3.

Re: Spugonior's Spellbook

Korkas starts to look around. Althiof using his keen observation starts to notice something strange. Some of the crates are marked with the same graffiti image on the wall near the entrance, with the bloody axes, while some of the other crates are marked with a bloody shield. Upon searching the Hobgoblin, two wooden discs are found inside his shirt. Both about the size of a large coin. One of them has the bloody axes on it, while the other has a bloody shield. Virius  will recognize both of these symbols because of his knowledge of the Gnarley Forest. The Blood Axe, while being the symbol of Maglubiyet, is also a tribal symbol for the Broken Axe Tribe. The Bloody Shield is the tribal symbol of the Skull Crag Tribe, which are known to live in the nearby Kron Hills.

From the looks of it, two different Goblin Tribes have been in the area. Likely brought together for some nefarious purpose. The Hobgoblin doesn't seem to have a place here in the Cavern either. All the bedding is suitable for the goblins, but the Hobgoblin looks out of place. Maybe someone sent here to give the Goblins Orders.. None of it is making much sense.

Ali sighs after helping stench the bleeding of his rescuers "Ah, this is the best I can do for the wounded today but umm, yes, lets see, ah ha found it, a salve to help bind the wounds over night.  Helps a little bit and any healing is better then none."  Shrugs, "though it will take time, and usually I charge a bit of coin for it but here "  chuckles, "I freely give it to my comrades? in arms - If I may be as so bold to join you all"  and smiles as he continues his searching. "Once I find all I can here, my lab is hidden not far from here I can be of better use."

Re: Spugonior's Spellbook

After looking at the ruby eye'd goblin head across the water, she firmly nods to herself.
Reaching into her pouch and striding up to Virius with determination, she kneels down and examines the wounds thoroughly.
"You are have the luck of the day with you, I only have this much help to offer you but with your fortune it will be enough."
Yaotl quietly yet steadfastly wraps his wounds with a grey salve that smells worse than the worg that caused the injury.

"Take care not to undo those until two nights have watched over you. Now there must be more of use here than we think."

Yaotl rolled a 3 on total healing for the wounds and an 11 for finding helpful herbs inside the cave while the party regroups.

Before leaving Yaotl intends on casting detect magic on the statue with rubies in its eye sockets.

Kossoth used water to clean his wound and bind it in clean cloth before he began glancing around in the lantern light, "I suggest before we poke around things that don't look like they have been raided and brought here..." he glanced over to the statue, "...that we load the wagon up with what it can bear in treasure and goods.  Then if we find any hidden doorways or things that look ripe to be a trap that make things untenable we can leave hastily without ruing the day we didn't."

Re: Spugonior's Spellbook

Yaotl, you are able to find a small batch of Calcena Mushrooms that are growing in one dark damp corner of the Cavern. You are able to forage them and stash them inside our pouch. As you go and use your magics, the rubies themselves and the carved rock are not magical. But you are able to detect that the armor the Hobgoblin is wearing is.

"Do no let your fears guide you too far, these gems aren't magical but the armor of the hobgoblin is. It holds the spirit of Abjuration within it's folds and swears to protect its wearer more than any other could.  That will be a great boon to whomever chooses to wear it."

Re: Spugonior's Spellbook

We are but an hour or two from town. I think we should load up everything after we have thoroughly searched this place and head back. Don't want more goblins coming in over night and stabbing us to death in our sleep " Korkas responds as he shakes his head... He looks to Althiof Yep, knew something didn't smell right with all this coin laying about. Should get back to town and see what the rangers may know Sounds like we may get kill some more goblin." Korkas says with a grin.

He is worried that the little magicks he has left may not be suffcient to help hsi peers.

"I fear simple traps that are not magical.  They will kill you just as dead as a magical one will and be harder to spot..."remarked Kossoth.

Looking to Korkas he agreed, "If we were in better shape I'd say set traps for those that will inevitably show wondering why these trade goods haven't been delivered and ambush them with the goal of taking one alive to ferret out where each group is camped.  We should pack the wagon to full with as much of the treasure and trade goods as possible and return for the time being."

Re: Spugonior's Spellbook

OOC: Althiof told the others about the goblin symbols, in case the information had not been spread yet.

"There are some giant spiders in the area.  One thing I haven't had time to offer, is that someone asked me if I could help with the spiders.  Might only be two of them, but that is unconfirmed.  This is not their lair area, but they are nearby, and have been above this location recently, possibly hunting goblins."

"I know the side road to take from the main one, if we want to hunt these spiders down."

Kossoth looked to the others before looking back to Althiof, "I see no reason to not go after the spiders...but not right now.  Let's get all of this stuff back to town and rest till tomorrow so these wounds can heal up and our herbalists collect some supplies to mitigate or neutralize the poison those creatures will inject if they get their fangs into one of us..."

Korkas nodded in agreement "Yeah the tall ones don't have enough dwarven blood in them. A day or two of rest will be needed. Let us quickly load everything. Finish searching it all. Someone able to swim to check the water?" Korkas looks to the others as he quickly moves to the walls and checks them over for any hidden caches or otherwise.

Re: Spugonior's Spellbook

The rest of the Cavern has been picked over and cleared, the statue of the Goblin head although intimidating proved to have no traps or secrets areas. Nor did the rest of the cavern. You are able to load up all the crates and the barrels and everything else in the wagon that you brought along. It all takes a few hours to get it all transported to where you stashed the wagon. During this time, Ali goes and retrieves his laboratory, which is a wheelbarrow that looks to have been converted into a mobile Apothecary lab. Strange bits and bobs, glassware, containers.

You all travel along with the wagon back to Hommlet. Its about midday, the sun overhead and the weather is starting to clear a little. The road is hard to navigate from the mud and it takes extra time to get back to Hommlet but the group manages too without any encounters, or added issues.
