Spugonior's Spellbook

Hollen moves up and leans down to examine the tracks. He glances towards the location the tracks lead and then back to the ambush site and the destroyed wagon.

17:04, Today: Hollen Jeth rolled 6 using 1d20 with rolls of 6.  Tracking.

The tracks clearly go off towards Deklo Grove, you can see about seven different sets of footprints. It is clearly Goblin from the size and from what you've seen before. It looks like two of the goblins may have been dragging something heavy, a bag of potatoes maybe, or something else. You can see fibers of a sack that looks to have snagged on the exposed roots.

Hollen turns and looks to the dwarf. "I can track them into the forest, following this trail shouldn't be to difficult. The terrain should allow the wagon to come, we may run into some issues closer to the forest. But I wouldn't recommend leaving the wagon or the horse anywhere near the road." he says. "It also looks like the goblins numbered six, and two of them were dragging something heavy." he adds.

Korkas laid under the tarp, not moving as best as he could. The smell to those near him would become overbearing as time progressed. He listened to those around them as he waited for the goblin's or the all clear sign and their next action.

Virius rose from where he had been examining the singed wood and debris and relayed his findings.

"The blast that caused all this was not of any wizard's doing."   He said of the fire-blasted wreckage.   "Alchemical, most like, but not a spell."

"I have never known goblins to use such.  Certainly not bright enough to prepare the necessary reagents on their own."

Down in the bottom of the charred barrel, you can see a red gemstone, its about half the size of your fist, its been worked slightly by an unskilled gemsmith.

The locksmith himself gets down from the wagon and goes to investigate the wreckage.  He picked up the axe-head.

OOC: Was this to a handaxe, or a larger weapon of war?

The axe is larger, but more for chopping wood, not a weapon of war, but not a handaxe either. It looks to be sized for humans, and is of Oeridian craftsmanship. The haft is broken near the middle, the axe could still be used as a handaxe if someone wanted too.

Korkas throws off the tarp from him and clambers to his feet, leaving his pack resting in the wagon as he leaps over the side, landing with a bit of grace he draws one dart as he moves towards the wreckage to examine it. "How old are the tracks?" He calls out towards the young ranger.

Hollen turns to the Dwarf. "I'd say these tracks are about a day old, same with the charred wagon, whomever was ambushed here it wasn't Spugonior, unless his ambush happened earlier." the Ranger says.

Hollen shakes his head. "It was clearly goblins that did the ambushing. Virius  is right, I've never heard of goblins using alchemist weapons, maybe they ambushed a second traveler who tried to use it on them. These tracks over here look like they dragged something heavy off with them towards the grove. Maybe they took a prisoner." the Ranger says. Hollen listens to Althiof and shakes his head. "Yeah, I agree." he adds.

Re: Spugonior's Spellbook

Virius hadn't even considered that this could be the site of some other ambush.  When Hollen mentioned that the tracks were recently made, it didn't take long for the party to assume the worst ... that whomever had been defending this wagon had been carried away by their assailants.

He shook his head as if to clear it of unwelcome thoughts.  Thoughts of helpless prisoners being dragged away to fates unknown.

"I'm with you, gentlemen."  He said with a steady voice.  "We don't know if any of these victims yet live, but if there's even a glimmer of hope that they make it out of the Deklo alive ... it lies squarely with us to see it done."

He nods to no one in particular, more to convince himself, if anything.  While it wasn't quite how he'd imagined it ... this was the adventure he'd been steeling himself for.

The tracks lead further into from the road and towards Deklo Grove, as you enter the forest, the canopy above shadows the sun and the forest takes on a gloomed look. Patches of sunlight shine down, its not dark, but its not bright anymore either. The canopy is thick. The ground also changes, two feet off the ground a fog lingers on the forests floor. Giving then entire forest a very eerie feeling. You also start to notice spiderwebs among the trees. A few mundane spiders seem to have made hundreds of small nests all over this section of the forest.

The Tracks continue and you eventually get to a point where they cross a small creek. The tracks continue down the edge of the rocky creek, thus preventing the wagon from continuing.

Up ahead though you see that the creek leads into a small cavern, a cliff juts from an outcropping. The entrance of the cavern has two large wooden palisade doors built with Deklo Timbers. The entrance of looks to be slightly ajar. The creek runs into the cavern through the two large doors.
