Depending on the DM's response Ali would take the potion of climbing to make more or have the chance to make more, which would mean he would have to "destroy it"  but we shall see.  It could be nice to have even a weak version of potion of climbing easier for the group to have/get or even income to the group by making and selling (and a small fee to Ali :))

I'd like to put my name down for the cloak of elvenkind.

So when I started the game I was going to use Individual XP awards, but that is going to leave behind some of the more slower paced characters, which would suck for the group. The Mages are already going to advance slower than the other classes. Plus there are some of the individual XP awards that don't really make sense. Plus they are still augmented by other factors. I think the witch not having the extra 10% bonus is a good idea, since they start with Magical items. Everyone else has the 10% bonus, so it makes flat awards easier to manage and I don't have to do extra book keeping. As you start getting higher in level, the awards will get higher too. 2E was never really good about challenge ratings and XP awards. I also don't want levels to become stagnant and far between. So that is why I also added in the Post Count Awards, they offset a lot of the individual XP awards which players would be getting. And giving a flat "Participation" award across the board. Games have ups and downs when it comes to player postings. One week someone may have free time, the next not. Penalizing a player because of real life, sucks. But you can also see that exploring on your own can also get you XP awards which are separate from the groups awards. I'm trying to do it the best I can with what I have to work with, without having to use things from other editions.

So far things are good the way you are doing XP - your way and your booking to make it easy on you is best.  lol  DM knows best.

My groups all do a balance group xp award.  With extra per side adventures too so I am good with what you do now.

If using a Potion, you offset the cost of researching a spell. So you would in effect use the potion to learn a Formula that would allow you to make a concoction of climbing, using other alchemical reagents and the formula of the potion. So yes.

So, Ali can use his Concocting Proficency to Identify Potions/Salves/Lotions, including magical ones. It will take 1/10th the XP value in gold to Identify potions, in this case the Potion of Climbing is worth 300 XP Value. so it would 30 gold.

Other than Sleep & Hypnotism, he doesn't really have much that is offensive.

I don't think any of the fighters will choose the scimitar +1 since it's not our proficiency/specialization but we can see if anyone else has a similar +1 weapon we can trade for.

Perhaps the people at the tower can ask those two.  Or perhaps they will have another magical item worth asking in trade for.

As far as items Korkas would be interested in the Cloak first & ring Secondary.

The Cloak will make either of the Thief's able to sneak up better on people if needed. For Kossuth it would allow him to be able to sneak with the thieves

The Ring of Protection is great for anyone, given that it provides both it's bonus to saves and AC.

Looks like we're selling the scimitar.  Only PC left to declare intentions is a mage.

After we hear from Yaotl, we can begin the horse trading of who-gets-what.

Here’s my two cents now that we have a bag of holding.  Don’t sell magic unless it’s absolutely necessary.

That scimitar +1?  Tradable for another +1 weapon.  Sell it for gold for immediate gratification?  Not going to cover buying a +1 weapon a merchant might have.  If we get no bites on a trade we simply wait.

Better busy a sheath for the scimitar if your gonna put it inside the bag of holding. Muahhaha!

Smart idea. plus trading is a good idea later. Your never going to get the full value of the sword, not in 2E, but trading it to someone, that could get you want you want in the long run. Smart suggestion.

You're ever going to get 'full value' no matter what edition you're playing unless you have a truly generous DM.  Trading things also works a whole lot better in 2nd ed than any of the other ones cause once you hit 3rd its far easier to create magic items of power.  Then a crafter could make an item at half value and trade it at full value to make profit...don't get me wrong that is totally the Ferengi way when they visit Greyhawk to make profit and all but that's going off on a tangent... ;-)

The essential aspect is trading will always work out better.

As long as you don't insult them...

They start with them Storm because they have a whole host of other restrictions placed upon them.
