Father Calmert Laughs. "You truly must not be from around here. The battle of Emridy meadows happened years ago, Terjon is fine, other than being old. He talks all the time about the missing pendant and that he lost is somewhere during the battle. His memory has been weakened over time, but he does remember a large rock of shimmering colors. He says he lost the pendant somewhere near it. Emridy meadows is to the north, past the Deklo Forest. Just be careful if you decide to go and search for the Pendant. Emridy Meadows is a rather desolate place and is crawling with Skeletons, Zombies." he adds.

" I guess the fight and many men killed must have created a lot of negative energies causing many of the dead to rise as undead? Fortuneateky my order is skilled in putting them to rest so I shall fear less. Thank you for your advice. By the way do you have potions of healing for sale?" Stprmmasks

Father Calmert looks to Stormrider and nods. "Just a moment." he says as he moves to the side of the room opposite the benches and opens a wooden curio, sliding the panel to the side and reaching within. "The Church does have a few items for sale, if you are interested. We have a holy mace, its known to have magic, as well as some potions, and of course the Church can provide holy water, all though require a donation." he says.

Father Calmert pulls out two of the potions and then closes the curio. "If you're looking for somewhere to stay, Talk to Ostler over at the Inn of the Welcome Wench. He may have a few beds left, but with the people in town for the Funeral, it may be cramped." he says. He then hands the Priest the two potions and accepts the coin payment.

Deduct 400 Gold from your total, add two Potions of Healing.

As you enter the Abby, you come into the main hall. (1) This is where the faithful come to hear the sermon given on God's day eve. The place is floored in well-polished wood, with wooden pillars and a ceiling extending all the way to the roof high overhead. The walls are painted in pastoral scenes, and tinted glass mosaic windows of many shades of color allow light into the hall. There are no benches, pews or stools.

You can see from the main hall, it leads into the Processional. (2) Worshipers (as well as those to be confirmed, married, and so forth) are allowed to enter this way, led by the cleric or clerics concerned, the latter robed and with thurible and ceremonial billet of bronzewood. The floor here is of lighter wood, and the walls are deep blue, sprinkled with starbursts in silver leaf.

The Curtains to the Altar and Sanctuary (3) are open and you can see This circular chamber is screened by a drape of deep green velvet. Inside is a life-sized statue of St. Cuthbert, smiling, great cudgel held high with one hand, while the left hand beckons to the doubter and the faithful alike. Growing ferns and other plants are behind this statue, while to either side are tree stumps for the clerics to officiate from, while an altar is carved from a single piece of bronzewood, carved with billets, star bursts, and the sacred sign of the crumpled hat. The walls are wainscoted with carved panels, and a band of holy sayings runs above this woodwork and the painted walls which show various marvels performed by St. Cuthbert. If one of the faithful needs guidance or advice, small sticks are tossed upon the altar, and their conformation enables the cleric to select which holy saying or combination thereof applies.

Father Calmert Starts to prepare for the evening services. People start arriving at the Abby and start filling up the wooden benches that the young acolytes have moved into the procession area. Father Calmert prepares the oaken tree stump for the speaker. Canoness Y'dey comes from the back area and walks up the the large tree stump and goes over her notes. Terjon another of the Elder Priests sits off to the side, humming soft prayers of St. Cuthbert. Father Calmert addresses those that have arrived. "We shall start the services in a few minutes. Please find your seats, until then we shall sit in private reflection." he says.

Althiöf entered in his new wardrobe, his hair and beard newly braided, without any visible weapons upon his person.  He had come for the evening services, which he expected were about to begin.  Indeed, he thought the bells should be ringing at any time.

Walking further inside, he saw that there was an intersection, down which were some benches.  He was unsure of where to go, because some went to the benches, but others remained behind in the first hall.  Unsure of proper protocol, he stayed behind in the hall where it intersected towards the speaker in front.  For a moment, he prayed silently.

'Soulforger, I intend no disrespect to you, the father of all dwarves.  I am not in the halls of my forefathers, but in the wilderness far from our mountains.  This community has a church to St. Cuthbert, who I know to represent the weal of the people.  I have come to witness their service, to better understand the people here, and to be closer to what is holy.  I have not lost faith in you, which is as strong as it has always been.  Please see this not as a transgression, of which your lowly servant implores.'

Glancing about, the locksmith was unsure if he should remain standing, or sit upon the floor.  Did these folk kneel during service?

Finally, the dwarf made up his mind to sit on a bench, hoping he would not be admonished.  He did not go too far, and looked for somewhere in the middle where an area of bench was empty.  If he saw a friendly face he knew, Althiöf would smile and give a friendly nod in acknowledgement.

Canoness Y'dey calls the room to attention by banging a Cudgel against the oak dias. "Welcome, Everyone to evening services." she says. "Someone once said that obedience is the practical acceptance of the authority and will of St. Cuthbert. It includes both submitting to Him and then expressing that submission in actions, words and thoughts. Anything short of absolute obedience to St. Cutbert is disobedience. Life points out the seriousness of disobedience and the nature of obedience. Disobedience is like the sin of witchcraft, Disobedience is a voluntary act of rebellion to the authority and will of St. Cuthbert." she bangs the cudgel again against the dias. Terjon gives a respectful nod to Canoness Y'dey. Father Calmert also nods to the Canoness' sermon.

Two of the people inside the church stand up, pointing at the Canoness one of them yells. "Blasphemy!, Curse you!, Take your God from here, The Old Faith will prevail!" he says. The other takes an opens a sack, he spills out the contents on the ground of the church, small wooden sticks in the shape of people, trinkets made from the wilderness, smaller pouches filled with herbs. "We hex you, and your god!" one of them screams. Two of the Acolytes moves towards the men, attempting to escort them outside.

Althiöf thought this interruption quite odd, and for the briefest of moments, he wondered if it was part of the service.  Almost immediately, he decided against it.  Knowing that this outburst could end at any moment, the dwarf began paying the closest of attention and detail of their height, weight, hair color, eye color (if he could see them at any point, the color of their clothes, the condition of their clothes, whether they wore foot gear, if any weapons were present, tattoos or symbols upon their clothing, items or skin.

The Acolytes manage to usher both men out of the services. Althiöf takes close notice that both men looked to be in there mid thirties. Unkempt hair, the clothing they were wearing was very similar to what Jaroo was wearing the other night when you talked to him in the grove. You could see that they didn't have any weapons on them, nor did they wear armor. Clearly they were druids of some sort.

The services continue without further incident. The service lasts another thirty minutes. The congregation is dismissed, and Father Calmert addresses some of the practitioners as they leave, apologizing to them about the outbursts.

Althiöf went to where the outburst occurred, and looks for the wooden stick-figures of men.  If found, the dwarf takes them and stores them in a pouch.

Next, the locksmith watched the people leaving to see if there was a woman without an apparent husband beside her.  He expected she would not be overly young, more likely thirty years of age or even much older than that.

He slowly made his way towards the door, not minding if he was among the last to leave.

All of the women in the congregation were accompanied by men, or escorted by what looked to be someone close to the family. Most of the congregation though were men, converts of the Old Faith that had taken up with St. Cuthbert when the Church first started. You manage to collect a few of the wooden stick figures, and herb sacks before An acolyte comes by to clean up the mess. Mumbling something about the Old Faith, and its dissidents.

It seems Terjon, Father Calment and the Canoness' have already retreated to one of the side rooms.

He asked the acolyte who came to clean up the mess, "Excuse me.  I was hoping to have a word with Father Calmert, or the lady who gave the sermon (Canoness Y'dey, I presume.).  Do you think that would be possible, or would it be too much of an interruption for them at this moment?"

The acolyte shakes his head. "It might not be the best time, not with the outburst that happened, I would be remiss to interrupt them, unless it was an emergency." he says.
