○ Nira Melubb's Jewelry Shop

As you approach the Jewelry shop, you can see a small female Gnome standing outside. Hanging from the window near the door is a sign displaying this being the Jewelry Shop. The Gnome is tending to a small garden that lies next to the building.

Kossoth walked up and stopped a healthy distance away, he was scuffed up and sporting slightly bloodied clothing after all, before he asked, "Excuse me friend, is the jewelry shop open?"

The small Gnome looks up to the traveler and nods. "Of course, are you looking to have something crafted, is it for someone you admire?" she asks. Lights from a strand of gemstones glints and reflects a rainbow of light in the nearby window. "Lets go inside, where I can do my calculations." she says.

"Thank you friend,"

Kossoth followed the gnome in to her shop and his eyes glanced around the inside in appreciation of her work.  He many not know how to cut them personally but ever his parents child he'd grown up knowing how to value things appropriately, "You do some fine work, fine work indeed."

He bowed his head in greeting, "My name is Kossoth Zan.  I am unfortunately here for the funeral but with a number of companions was helping out with some problems around Hosseth and we came across a number of gems and jewelry pieces that a raiding group of goblins had taken...they are no longer among the living.  I know a pair of them are quite valuable and a third one very much so.  I'd like your opinion on the two of them and if they are suitable to be split into smaller stones.  The other if they can be separated into smaller more manageable portions."

Nira smiles. "I'm Nira Melubb, Gemcutter and Jeweler of Hommlet, and welcome to my little workspace." She laughs because she is right, it is little, everything inside is sized for a Gnome, the chairs, the tables, the tools, even a small little hammer on her worktable. "I heard that a bunch of travelers were coming in for the funeral. I am sorry if you knew the deceased." she bows her head for a moment in silence. "If you have the pieces I can look them over and tell you what I can do. I get a few adventurers in here from time to time that want to chip down gemstones and make them easier to carry, so this is nothing new for me." she adds.

"I brought them along so that I could get quotes from you on the work," remarked Kossoth with a helpful nod.

Unslinging his backpack he untied the top and brought out three cloth wrapped items.  The first two that he opened were the ruby eyes from the goblin statue.  The last was the silver crow that was heavily gem encrusted.  Tilting his head slightly he added, "The ruby's look large enough to perhaps split but I only know that since my family has bought and sold before...they were not gem-cutters like yourself.  The crown I think could have the individual small cut stones removed and with proper engraving and work the slots missing the stones could be re-worked into a new motif...but I only say thing from things I've seen as final product rather than actually done.  Even if I was interested in how it was done, I haven't had the time or tools to learn like I have my other trades."

Nira looks over the silver crown, that's set with gemstones. "This is a beautiful piece. Did you see the inscription here?" she asks, she points out a makers mark on the inside along with an script inscription, its very small but she is able to read it with her magnifying glass. "For Tillahi, with all my love." she reads the inscription. "The mark is from a jeweler in Celene" she adds. "If I'm not mistaken, Tillahi is the name of an elven princess of Celene, where did you say you found this crown?" she asks. "As for the two rubies, I can cut them and make them smaller if that will help you. Both are kind of rough, but should polish up nicely." he adds.

Kossoth shook his head, "No I missed that when we found it and if true it's far more likely that it would be worth returning to the princess if she is still alive.  A goblin den commanded by a hobgoblin.  I will have to ask the others if they would want to do such a thing before marring this crown then."

Looking to the rubies he asked, "With their size and quality how many times could you do that and maintain good quality after faceting and polishing?"

Nira takes a closer look at the rubies. "If I were to appraise these, I would say they could fetch around a thousand gold, in a good market. In Hommlet you are not going to find many people with that much disposable gold laying around. In Verbobonc you could easily find a merchant willing to purchase them. I could while keeping them in good quality, and cut and polished break down the rubies into smaller cut pieces, say one worth one hundred each, minus my fee of course. I could cut you nineteen smaller rubies. It would make them more manageable, and easier to purchase things with should you wish to use them that way." she says.

Kossoth nodded in understanding, "That's what I had roughly come to as well for their value.  I most certainly would like to engage you on the cutting of the stones down and the fee is more than acceptable as well my friend."  He carefully re-folded he cloth around the crown and made sure to take careful note as to the exact location of the script on the crown.  He would have to speak to the others about that development before deciding on cannibalizing the crown for mere gold.

Kossoth nodded his head in thanks and matched it in words, "I have a feeling that I will be in town longer than the funeral...there is much that seems to be needed done and my parents wanted me to spend time away from the dangers of the desert.  I will be back in about an hour and look forward to returning more frequently."  Collecting up the crown and placing it back in his pack he slung it over his shoulder and made his way back to the inn.
