○ BurneÂ’s Tower

This large stone tower sits upon the eastern border of Hommlet proper. It is the home of the wizard Burne, the warrior Rufus, and their band of men-at-arms, sometimes called Burne’s Badgers. The tower is surrounded by freshly dug ditches and the beginnings of field stone walls; it is obviously that a castle is being built around the site of the tower, though it is still in its earliest stages.

As you approach the Tower, you can see a few laborers outside working on the pad where the keep is suppose to be built. A long series of stone steps lead up the side of the Tower to its entrance. As you start to get closer one of the laborers moves over towards you and dusts himself off. "Hail travelers. Can I help you with anything?" he asks.

"Ofcourse Ali, once again this fault is mine. In my home when one is taken captive, and returns to us through one means or another, we do not acknowledge them for 6 months. This thing is done to preserve their honor and to let the taken one strengthen their selves during that trial."  Yaotl speaks with an earnest pace, "But it is easy to forget that this land has an honor of its own."
She stands stiffly beside the entryway of the tower as she finishes her diatribe, loose dirty robes faintly swaying in the breeze.

"I shall go and see if they are free for an audience." says the foreman. He heads up the steps of the tower and enters through the single door. A few moments later he returns and says. "Alright, They are in the main hall of the tower, they will see you now." he says.

As you make your way up the long stone stairs that clearly lead to the second floor to the tower you notice that the Tower is also built on one of the highest hills around, and the vantage lets you look out over the town. As you enter the tower you see a half moon shaped table that dominates the middle of the circular room. Standing at one end of the table is clearly a mage, the mage having just cast a spell upon himself, a magical field of force as a blue shimmering of light appears for a brief second and then passes. Seating at the table is another man, dressed in armor with a sword at his side. Two sets of stairs lead from this area, one upwards and one down. The window slits, and a few hanging lanterns illuminate the room. Along with a four prong candle holder on the table. You can see a set of three chairs sitting off to the side, as well as another six chairs that sit around the table. Large tapestries hang on the walls. "Welcome Friends." Burne says. Rufus finishes another bite of the food that he was eating and then takes a drink, but stays quiet. Burne looks to the group. "Visitors for the funeral, I would presume, or adventurers come to explore our small town?" he asks.

Those that pass a spellcraft check will know that Burne just cast the spell armor on himself.

"Came for the funeral found some adventure" Korkas boasts with a smile "Coin to be earned. Respect to be given." Korkas walks forward towards the table grabbing a chair closest to Ruffus and Burne. The scrape of wood can be heard across the floor as he pulls the chair out and moves to take a seat.

Rufus does not seem impressed that the dwarf just sat down at the table. But Burne interjects before Rufus has a chance to say anything. "Please take a seat so we may talk, what is on your minds." he says as he moves and takes a seat himself at the table. Burne curiously looks over Yaotl with an intriguing eye. "What can we be of service?" he asks. Rufus continues to eat the food on the plate before him, obviously annoyed.

Burne obviously thinks that you might be starstruck so to speak with being in the presence of him and Rufus. "A Goblin lair you say, very interesting. Rufus and I have been adventuring in these parts for years, at least until we both retired." he says. "What kind of treasure did you find, we may be interested." he says. Rufus continues eating and taking drinks of the ale on the table.

And with that Rufus pushes himself up from the table and looks down at the dwarf and then to Burne. Without words the two have a conversation with their eyes, Burne stressing that violence is not the answer, and Rufus straining not to lean down and punch the dwarf in the face for being so disrespectful. Rufus leaves the table and walks upstairs. Burne looks back to the group. "My Apologies, Sometimes Rufus can be a little distracted." he says. "A Hobgoblin you say. We haven't had a Hobgoblin in these parts in years, but the clans yes, many different clans of goblins, and orcs roam the nearby hills and the forest. You mentioned Armor, of what sort, My new Captain of the Badgers may be looking for a new set of armor, his armor suffered some nasty acid damage this last week." Burne says.

"Well if they decide to sell it, if its good armor, I may take it off your hands." Burne says. Then Burne moves to inspect the two wooden discs. "Fascinating. The bloody Axes and the Blood Shield. It looks like the two tribes are working together then if you found these. These wooden discs are markers given by the tribe to commanders, it would mean that your hobgoblin foe was in command of both tribes, which you are right, is very troublesome." he says. "It could mean that someone or something has returned to the Temple. Rufus and I haven't been keeping up with our inspections of the surrounding area like we should be, I blame this dreaded work on this keep." he shakes his head obviously annoyed. "We've been tasked to build this keep, but things keep preventing us from Labour Problems, to materials not arriving on time. I even think that one of my workers  are deliberately altering the orders for supplies in order to interfere with the construction of the castle, I just don't know who." he says.

Rufus later attracted followers, and we decided to retire here in Hommlet. When Verbobnoc wanted to build a keep here, they asked us if we would be interested in overseeing its construction. We had already built out tower with the gold we got from adventuring, so we told them yes, plus it was to help keep Hommlet and the surrounding areas safe, and that overall is what we wanted." he says.

The magic of my peoples are more focused on channeling the entropy of the world through the body, we do not have very many practices of study or viewing the world."

"So that leaves me in an awkward position," She says lightly, as if in jest, "I am in the hold of powerful channelers and in need. What do I offer? He walks over to the goblin and rips at its ragged shirt, and flips the foul creature over on its back. Showing branded in the middle of its back is another symbol. The symbol is that of an jagged swirl. "Its the symbol of Tharizdun, the god of Eternal Darkness, Decay, Entropy, Malign Knowledge, Insanity, and Cold. Not really someone that you want to mess with, even his cultists. If this goblin was caught by these spiders like you say, its likely that these cultists of Tharizdun have returned to the region, or have just been silent since the fall of the Temple." He pointed to the marking of Tharizdun upon the goblin.  "I believe that there is someone, or some group who may be utilizing magic to influence folks in your community.  They are seeking to cause mayhem and disruption, and perhaps weaken the collective defense of the locale."

"Take the riot which almost occurred the other night, when multiple priests of St. Cuthbert took up arms to fight the druid and his supporters in the middle of town.  The priests allegedly used daggers to kill the druid's bear.  Using daggers is not something priests normally choose to do.  I noticed multiple sets of footprints running from the bear towards the church, but multiple priests were not missing from the almost-ensuing fight moments later.  I believe some of the attackers of the bear might have been among the affected, or part of the group trying to influence events in the area."

"Then there are the group of goblins we dispatched recently along the northern road.  They had multiple tokens illustrating the different tribes from which they belonged."
The dwarf showed them the tokens he had found in the cave.

"Then, there was the beastly worm placed inside the keg and the Inn of the Welcome Wench.  I found it and battled it, but have not found a direct purpose yet for someone to have placed it there.  I have a suspicion of someone in particular, but no proof as of yet."

"I understand that you may believe it is possible one or more of your laborers are causing delays to the construction.  I believe those people might be under a spell, or perhaps be a part of this nefarious plot to undermine the defense of this locale."

It proved to be much more than he had planned on saying, but those in charge needed to know.  It was his own duty to provide such knowledge, for them to be able to do their best to stem such a spread of chaos and evil.

○ BurneÂ’s Tower

Rufus looks to Althiöf nodding as the Dwarf speaks and at the end looks to Burne, the two have a moment of communication without words and Rufus nods. "You seem to be very observant, If you are sticking around Hommlet, how would you like to be deputized, where you can look into each of these claims and have some authority behind it?" Rufus asks. Burne nods in agreement. "The Sheriff of Hommlet, the lieutenant of my Badgers is stretched thin and could use the help, you wouldn't have to report to him though, you would report directly to us." he says. "Its possible that the loyalties of even our own may have been influenced." he adds. Rufus speaks. "I have many of the same reservations about the happenings here in Hommlet, and the fact that someone or something is working behind the scenes to prevent our construction of the keep, and more so, like you said, causing problems within the community. Tharizdun cultists would explain a lot of they are in Hommlet. Spreading Insanity and affecting others is one of the cults trademarks. If its influenced both the Old Faith and the Church though, I feel it may have been here for a long time, just festering." he adds. Burne speaks up. "We have been lacking with the scouting parties, relying more on the Rangers of the Gnarley Forest to check on things, maybe they too have been influenced in some way. Sending a scouting party to check on the nearby Moathouse or the Temple might be a good idea." he glances to Rufus. Rufus looks to Althiöf. "That is a good suggestion, we should no longer expect the Rangers to be doing the patrols, our deal was with Elkiar, not Marcan, and its possible that since his death, the patrols have gone to the wayside. We should send a party to the Moathouse and the Temple to check on things." he adds. Rufus looks to Althiöf. "We can not spare the men, if something happens here in Hommlet, the Badgers need to be here to keep the peace. Would you and your group want to go scout out the Moathouse and the Temple and see if there is any activity?" he asks.

The dwarf was having a sense of deja vu.  It was just the other day, when he had been roped into the party, practically against his will.  Now, he was offering the information to the powers that be, and they were roping him into being deputized and doing the work for them.

Getting on one knee, "I accept this honor, and promise to do my best to uphold the weal of the community in your service, your Lordships."

"We have funds set aside for occasions such as this. I doubt that the rest of your group will work for free, and we wouldn't ask you do to that either. Know that any scouting that you do for us you will be rewarded, along with the rest of your group." he adds.

"Gentlemen."  The mage said, nodding his head in greeting.  He quickly scanned the room to gauge whether or not this pair seems in an amiable mood ... he had heard that the warrior Rufus was sometimes disagreeable.

"Thank you for agreeing to see me."  After the lord's current business with Althiöf had concluded — and after Korkas' outburst — Virius informed them how the party had come by Princess Tillahi's crown.

"I fear that two noble elves, Sir Juffer and Princess Tillahi, may have lost their lives while traveling your lands."  He continued.

"There is no blame to be assigned, of course, the Gnarley is widely known to be a dangerous and wild place.  But I was hoping we could entreat you to send word to her people."

"At the very least, their crown can be returned to her family."

Then, back to Burne.  "I know your time is precious, so I will not tarry.  A final request from one humble mage to another.  Nira Melubb was unable to sell any pearls to our band.  She mentioned that you may have a few as you are one of her most loyal customers for that particular component."

We don't get many Baklunish in Hommlet, so they would have been noticed. Likely they were travelers along the road just passing through, camped in the Deklo Forest and got snagged by the Spiders. Before Althiof leaves, Althiof, best you do not go alone if you venture out, take one of the group members with you else await for me at the inn., I hope not to be too long.

Ali is still standing next to the Goblin through the whole conversation and examination.  Once it seems they are done looking at it for the moment Ali double checks its bonds and holds it by the bonds then turns to Rufua and Burne after they concluded the last conversation.  My lords, with the signs from this Goblin boding ill to the area, do you want us to leave it here in your care, err dungeon to interrogate further or do you want me um us to take it to the constable?

Korkas, Yes sell the armor at that price, it is a good solid fare price, I do not think anyone else wants it in our group as it is too bulky.

Ali will wait till everyone is done and left or waiting on him before asking Burne, When I have time to sit and chat I would love to go over what I may be able to bring to the table to help you besides trying to learn what is going on.  Maybe you can help me with a spell or two I could learn also, My profession does limit what I can cast.

So their attention is not always on the town where it should be. So Althiof here will take that roll. Hommlet has really been without much of a constable or law enforcer for awhile, but with all the recent issues, maybe its time we had one." Burne says. Turning to Ali. In reply to Dungeon Master (msg # 66):

OOC - LOL by the time I typed the longer section below the next post was in - so

ALi turns to Burnes, Constable Althiof I see and chuckles.   "But Sir, to answer your question yes, my specialty is The Altering magic, Alteration is the school I prefer to use.  Along with the ability to concoct formulas, through Herbalism and Chemistry, err chemically mixing ingredients to make stuff.  But I am in for learning new spells and even sharing mine if feasible for both to improve upon there magics."

OOC - So I do not forget what I err Ali is thinking and what he wants to talk to Burne about I'll post away now and you can fit it in when roll play happens and sorry so long but you can interject conversation in between what I have typed.  This can happen now too but I did not want to forget this train of thought.

Ali smiles and gulps but continues on, Sir Burnes, I am not a powerful Mage by profession, (unless DM you wanted to convert to a kit like I suggested in my PM to you) so magic and spell casting are more difficult to improve upon readily.  I can cast the simple spells and progress up a little bit but that takes years of study per my last master.  What I can do better then most or "and smiles", as I gain proficiency in it is make potions, salves, oil and other materials that can if not mimic the same effects, but produce lesser effective outcomes of the arcane and holy granted spells such as making fire blasts, Greasy areas, fog, fire walls, light, healing, some minor protections and detection's, and so on.  I can make antidotes as well as poisons though I prefer antidotes, sleep remedies, anxiety pills, salves to ease aches and pains mainly using natural ingredients."
Smiles,
"I have a very small simple portable mobile lab I use but I really could use a more, shall we say decked out lab to help me make things.  Ali shrugs, "Since I like this village and might stay a bit to help out and better my craft such an improvement would be nice. "
Sighs,
"What I am proposing no asking is if possibly a room in your tower or a room in a sturdy building you know of" chuckles "even a shed could help me. I would only be asking such since you would by the looks of it have better resources to get some of my more harder to get ingredients and I see you and I would benefit  greatly from my work.   Call it a partnership  err no I guess that is too far but say your my sponsor and I am your chief.  I would be able to learn and make new potions, salve and so forth and you would benefit from being able to have some of my work and also someone to make or figure out new stuff for you."

Grins, "Also, what simple magic I now could help your work effort here too, such as my mending spell, grease spell and spider climb spells could help in your daily work.  I could cast those as a payment type too, err for your sponsorship to my work"  Smiles, "of course I ask to still be able to adventure with my friends to gain more experience in the world out there, which as you know will help me and you."

Sighs, "Now if or when I decide to move on, my lab can be yours to keep though I would probably take a lot of the material to make my recipes, not all the ingredients or all the gear for I would not want to leave you at a loss fr your sponsorship in this."  Chuckles "If we were partners in this then I would be obliged to leave a more working lab and know I would be able to come back and visit"

Smiles "but I go on too much in detail for a future time, so maybe how about for now the ability to use a place to work out my more difficult projects such as trying to make more potions from potions I find and some more of my difficult recipes with your help in getting the more difficult to acquire ingredients and pay you in kind woth my work, spells and so forth?

Burne leaves Rufus to talk to the others about things, and steps off to the side with Ali, and listens to his offer, nodding along the way. "You know, when the Keep is constructed there will be many a position to fill, a Castle Alchemist would be a very much in demand position. As for this Tower, there is just room enough for Rufus and myself, it may look large from the outside but with only three levels, and very thick walls it just doesn't have the required extra room. Plus Rufus and I are very private people, and this is our home. As for someplace you could setup a laboratory. We do own a few of the buildings down in the town. I think we may have one that is empty at the moment. If you'd want to use it in exchange for your services, or if you wanted to rent it from us, I don't see that being much of an issue, if you are going to stick around. Then once the keep is built, I'm sure there will be enough space to move inside it." he says. "I like the arrangement though, having a Alchemist in these parts would be a good idea." he adds.

The Weather suddenly takes a worse turn. Hail starts pinging the roofs and structures outside. The wind starts blowing so far that people outside need to brace themselves. Shutters are flung off windows, and doors are forced open from the wind, and need barred from the window. The wing starts howling louder and louder, the rain comes down more heavy as small flooding starts near the creek. The hail starts damaging those that are ouside in it and not under something. Its easy to fine overhead cover to protect yourself wherever you are. Lightning flashes become more frequent and the thunderous echo groans louder.

Re: ○ BurneÂ’s Tower

Burne decides to meet with Storm. Rufus seems to be absent at the moment, but you do hear activity upstairs and assume its likely him. Burne and you sit in the main hall at the table and talk about the ideas you have. "I really like what you are saying, the issue I see though, is the construction of the keep is all the current laborers can handle at the moment, we already have them working around the clock to get the site ready, once the shipment of lumber comes in I'll be able to put them to work getting a structure built, And even then all the stone has to be quarried to start on the actual keep its self." he says. "But I really like the idea, I agree the Cemetery has not been kept like it should be, and that should fall to the Church, or the Old Faith, but as you've seen, they do not really care much for cooperating." he ponders for a moment. "You and your companions have decided to stick around Hommlet and make a name for yourselves. You've helped out the townsfolk in a few areas while waiting for the Funeral. Would you be interested in sticking around Hommlet for the forseeable future? Not only are Rufus and I suppose to help build the Keep and do the day to day organization of the town, but we are also suppose to attract new residents. The Cemetery could use someone permenant for its upkeep, Your a man of Faith, not loyal to either the Old Faith or St. Cuthbert, you could be that bridge, and you could help with the repairs to the cemetery and securing its upkeep. Burne and I could donate to this cause of course and try and help you establish a residence, if you are contributing to the town, I'm sure our investors back in Verbobonc would be more than willing to help fund such a thing." he says.

You could send for some from Verbobonc, Some laborers will travel if they are paid nicely, or have other encouragement. I am sure we might be able to spare a few. I bet if you got the rest of your companions together, you could knock out the fence in a day or two. Just something to think about. If it means anything to them. I will see what I can do to get you some help though." he says. "Yes, when Father Calmert arrived, is when the fights between the Old Faith and St. Cuthbert really took off. I don't know what to do. Jaroo and his followers have strong feelings about St. Cuthbert. Things were fine with Father Terjon ran the church, but when Calmert arrived, things just changed for the worse." he says.

Re: ○ BurneÂ’s Tower

This large stone tower sits upon the eastern border of Hommlet proper. It is the home of the wizard Burne, the warrior Rufus, and their band of men-at-arms, sometimes called Burne’s Badgers. The tower is surrounded by freshly dug ditches and the beginnings of field stone walls; it is obviously that a castle is being built around the site of the tower, though it is still in its earliest stages.

As you approach the Tower, you can see laborers working out at the construction site. Most of them are picking up debris from the storm and getting lumber stacked back up in piles. You can see the foreman standing barking orders to the men. The Tower is nearby and you can see a man wearing a blue robe, clearly one of the mystical arts, standing on an elevated balcony of the Tower, overlooking the work below.

Up the hill the mounted figure guided his weary looking horse. With each step the beast's legs sank into the mud until finally, the rider hand to dismount and guide the horse by its reins the rest of the way. By the time man and mount reached the base of the tower, the figure had taken the measure of the fortified dwelling, and the construction that was in progress.

Sir Standrenn, late knight to the Banneret, Sir Beoron of the Eastermark, Looked up to the entrance of the tower and spoke in a raised voice to the one garbed as a mage of some sort. “Hail and well met! I am a knight that seeks hospitality from the Lord of this place.”

Burne turns his head and looks back into the Tower. "Rufus, another of your followers are at the door." he calls. Burne looks down at the Knight below. "Sir Knight, The Lord of the Tower shall be done in a moment. Please feel free to tie your horse, and meet us inside the main hall." he says. The door to the Tower opens, and a servant steps out, motioning for the Knight. "Please sir right this way." he says.

Once inside, you get your first view of the main hall. A large table dominates most of the room, semi-circular. A set of starts that wrap around the outside wall leads up to rooms above, and another set of stairs leads below. You can see a few servants moving about. A few moments pass and a handsome looking man with blonde hair descends the staircase. He has not donned any armor, but he wearing casual garb, a white flowing long sleeved shirt with tan breeches. He looks upon you and gives you a respected nod.

"I take it you have a message from Verbobonc?" he asks. He obviously thinks that you are someone else.

The Knight was led into the Tower, after he had turned his horse over to a servant as directed by the one in robes. Sir Standreen took the measure of the place, while he waited for the Lord of the Tower to make an appearance.

Soon a man of distinguished bearing and garb put in an appearance. This had to be the Lord of the Tower. When asked if he bore a message, Standreen frowned a moment, but then remembered his courtesy. A slight bow. “ Hail and well met, My Lord. I am Sir Standreen, Knight Errant, once in the service to the Banneret Sir Beone of the Westermarck, Kingdom of Furyondy. I was caught in the storm last eve, and now ask for hospitality of your Tower.” He said in the common tongue.

Sir Beone was slain in a boundary dispute with another noble. But he died well, as a knight should, in battle. May the gods grant him eternal rest.”

The young knight then seemed to return to the present, after having been lost in the past, for a moment.” Excuse me, to begin with, I thank you for the Hospitality, My lord.  As to why I am in these lands, I ride the glory road, my lord. I seek adventure, to right wrongs, and bring fame to my name in the doing of honorable deeds.” The young knight said with obvious enthusiasm.

Those not of the region may not know what that is, its fame doesn't reach far, but here near the Gnarley Forest, its well known. Burne and I have decided to build a keep here for the protection of Hommlet. But we need eyes and ears to know if threats are near. Re: ○ BurneÂ’s Tower

It was as if a thunderbolt from the heavens had struck Standrenn. Here he was, but newly arrived, and at the first meeting with the lord of this place, he was not only offered a place at the Lord’s table as knight, but the possibility of title and land of his own. The first was hard to believe, but the latter was beyond Standrenn’s wildest dreams.

To say the Knight was taken aback, would have to understate his reaction. “My…. Ahem. My Lord, you overwhelm me with your more than gracious offer. I am greatly humbled and honored by your offered bounty.” Said the errant knight with honest words.

Standrenn saw the state of the Lord’s demise upon arrival. But a single tower, and that newly constructed, with more building of a greater fortification. A small armed retinue for this lord, and then there was the offer. All this denoted a Lord in not perhaps desperate need of resources, but one that had need of reliable retainers, as he is just starting out. “Your cause sounds just, and I weary of being what is little better than a Mercenary, hiring his blade for caravan guard and such. I crave honorable service, and deeds of valor.”

The young knight slowly drew his sword with but two fingers to show no ill intent.” If you are willing to take a chance on me, then I shall do the same.” He went to one knee and held the blade before him in both hands. “ My sword is yours, my Lord.”

Outside

Kossoth would notice the laborers outside, tending to the grounds near the construction site. Tied to a railing near the tower is a beautiful horse. You can also see one of Burnes Badgers (Men-at-Arms) standing near the staircase to the tower. The Badger near the door nods to Kossoth as he comes forth. "The Lords of the Tower are awake, feel free to step inside the main hall." he says.

Inside

Inside at the Main Hall. Just as Sir Standrenn bows to Rufus. Burne stands and goes over to the fireplace, reaching above the mantel, Burne takes down a bastard sword. Its not polished or pretty, its very much well used. Burne moves over to Rufus and hands him the blade. Rufus turns towards Sir Standrenn. "You've been Knighted, that part is recognized by Furyondy. As Lord of these parts, under the Archclericy of Veluna, I accept your service, and your sword." he says. "Rise Sir Standrenn." Rufus says.

He paused a moment before re-adjusting, "And while that is one reason for me being here, the other is more personal in nature.  I'm trying to replace this spear I made on my naming day seven years ago.  I just got done speaking to Tarim and he's going to repurpose Deklo wood that otherwise would be unused that comes about from building the table that has been commissioned for here.  That combined with some thin metal inserts should make the shaft perfectly attributed.  The goal being for both the shaft and tips to be exceptional enough that they could hold an enchantment even though I do not know of anyone with such skill to do so currently," he gave the man an apologetic look knowing that the description was getting involved, "What I was wondering, if you knew, was would the metal of a blade retain any of its magic if it was turned back into an ingot and re-forged out, or perhaps be able to re-attain magic easier having held magic once before?  I have a scimitar that is made of fine steel that also holds some minor enchantment that was the thought..." and Kossoth showed Burne the blade he had in mind before his mind suddently connected some disparate thoughts and he added, "unless you are aware of any spear heads that retain their magic that the individual would be willing to part with them to be attached to my new double spear in exchange for this scimitar of course..."

Now there are some materials that have natural magical within them. But for weapons that have been crafted and enchanted by a wizard, most are not. Having a magical blade is a blessing though, did you know that some creatures are immune to normal non-magical weapons. It very frightening to run across something like that. As for your spear. You know a few days trip to Verbobonc would let you visit the markets there. Its likely that they would have what you seek. But I can offer you this. Re: ○ BurneÂ’s Tower

Kossoth nodded his head in understanding without really understanding like Burne as a wizard would, "I had heard rumors of such but thankfully I've never run up against it yet."

Shaking his head he added, "At this moment I don't think I'm going to have time to wander out to Verbobonic anytime soon." he paused before continuing, "I don't know how much others have already told you but someone is trying to stir things up...pitting Druids against Cuthberts, poisoning Jays sheep with hemlock...and I think its this person whose supposedly banded together six goblin clans, a half a dozen gnolls, a few ogres and an ogre magi and who knows how many others.  Goes by the name Lareth Goldenhair and supposedly worships the Elemental Eye.  I think it's also the individuals who captured Princess Tillahi and her companion a week ago and I can only hope they are still alive and haven't been used in some dreadful sacrificial rite..."

Another longer pause to allow him to digest what he'd said, "Althiof and Korkas scouted the moathouse last night for more clues but we were going to head south to check on rumors of ogres attacking the caravan.  If they are the same ones that are supporting Goldenhair, which makes logical sense, catching them apart from his other forces we might be able to remove them from the greater equation and make stopping Lareth easier, like we did in wiping out the force at the cavern that also stole Spugonior's spellbook." Kossoth sighed, "So you can see why I'd want a preferred enchanted weapon...but even one not preferred is better than none at all and tossing fifteen hundred coins at the enemy as they try and take my life.  Even those of us from good merchant stock realize that coin as a weapon only goes so far."

A self deprecating chuckle later he finished with, "Go for the funeral my parents said.  It'll broaden your horizons and help us honor a friend who saved us once they urged.  It's far too dangerous right now traveling this route in the Bright Desert so stay safe they said.  If only they could see me know..."

"His assistance will be most welcome as before now I was arguably thier most skilled man-at-arms Lord Rufus, and I am merely a son of merchants and used to handling poor bandits attacking our caravans my friends." remarked Kossoth with a small dip of his head and Sir Standrenn could tell he wore nothing heavier than light leather armour, but he had a diverse set of arms from the strange double ended spear to a scimitar and shorter sword or the slim daggers at his boots.

He turned to Standrenn and gave him a short rundown as much for the knight as the two Lord's in case there was any doubt, "I will introduce him to the others, Althiof and Korkas are nimble Dwarves and by the time we get back will be catching a few hours of sleep from being up all night scouting the moathouse.  Storm is a priest and is armoured similarly to you.  Virius is an arcanist and Ali is an alchemist.  Yaotl is...well she speaks to spirits and conjures great cats from nothing to protect herself or strike at others.  There also was a man named Doran Kron who is large as a bear who came into town today and was looking to join the Sùil Ghéur." he slipped into his native tongue of Ancient Suloise for a brief moment to describe what they were without thinking.

He dipped his head at his faux pas, "My apologies...we have not yet settled on a name for our comradeship so that is simply what I've been calling it in my head.  We should go but before we do...friend Burne do you know anyone who would have a use for the venom or fangs of a giant spider?  I harvested them from the creatures infesting the Deklo woods since back home we do the same to scorpions to create an antidote but here other than the Druids who are well versed in such things who have left town to figure out who is manipulating them...I'd rather destroy it than accidentally trade it to one of the individuals trying to stir up trouble if it can't be used for good." he spread his hands.  He figured that he'd likely be destroying it but one never knew what a wizard might have use for.
