The Church bells start to ring out across town. You are able to hear them. This Signifies that evening services are about to start.

In reply to Dungeon Master (msg # 18):

Karkos, I am not very strong um manual labor was not high on my child hood aspirations, I am more book smart and mindful so you would have to work that avenue  smiles  ALi turns to Burnes, besides manual laborers what other jobs could I infiltrate to help, maybe a buyer of supplies that is brought in with the supplies you purchase to see if there are underground connections arr no no that probably would not due but say I work as a helper of wounds and maladies using my salves, elixirs and such to help those manual workers sores and minor cuts and scraps?     shrugs, "I would not charge them and all I ask is the cost to create them be covered plus a small wage or a couple copper per treatment?  Kinda under your employ but contracted out?"  Shrugs, "Unless you have better ideas as I am ok at concocting things naturally and chemically.  Nothing strong mind you, my recipes are only basics right now".

Turns to no one when the bells toll, is that an alarm or oh, that time of day.  and looks to the three for direction if the conversation continues or not.

"its just the church signifying that they are about to start evening services." he adds."You could find out whatever way you want, just getting into the labor camp sounds the easiest. Since most of them already saw you walk in here. We could have sent word in town for anyone willing and able that wanted coin to come and work. It wouldn't be that far fetched. But whatever means you can come up with to find the person or persons responsible, I don't have any issues with how you do it." he says.

Korkas nodded to Burne as he pondered Ali's statement "Great time to learn manual labor. And besides they may know me already been in town for a day now and got in a fight with a half-orc. But I can see what I can do out there and help out. I will need to tend to this nasty gash from those stupid goblins first. Work like this with an open wound is a good way to test your fate."

Burne looks to the Dwarf. "Father Calmert at the Abby, should be able to heal that for you. He will of course ask for a donation for the church." he says. "Thank you for your interest in helping, I'm starting to believe that the people of Hommlet assume that Rufus and I are stalling the building of the Keep ourselves, this is not the case, we are very adamant about its constriction, this region needs a keep, and along with my Badgers we will start doing the job the Rangers do in the Forest, but here close to home." he says.

Smiles at Burne, I will see what your foreman may have available for me to get into but I will see when Korkas is ready. Grins, a puzzle to solve and rubs his hands.

Ali turns to Korkas, Korkas, ready to get back to the inn and see about your wounds and our friends, I have a book to read.

"All Right I will report to work over the next couple of days once I check on a couple things with my companions." Korkas responded over the last bit of drink he had and set the glass on the table, and pushed the chair out a bit further so he could get up. He turned and walked towards the exit.

Yaotl saunters to the table after turning to watch her associates go. Hands firmly clasping the back of the chair, she examines the man and his alluring presence before speaking.
"Leader Burne, it is obvious that you have much honor in the way that you hold yourself within these walls. If it is not rude in these lands, may I ask how you have come into power? I hear whispers since the start of my short time here that you and your man were adventurers."

Burne smiles as the strange women has taken a keen interest in him. And Burne does what he does best, talk about himself. "You see, Rufus and I used to be part of an adventuring group similar to yours, people from different walks of life that came together out of necessity we worked well with one another so we decided to roam the countryside in search of things to do, ruins to explore, evil to destroy, and we made a good amount of coin doing so. Rufus later attracted followers, and we decided to retire here in Hommlet. When Verbobnoc wanted to build a keep here, they asked us if we would be interested in overseeing its construction. We had already built out tower with the gold we got from adventuring, so we told them yes, plus it was to help keep Hommlet and the surrounding areas safe, and that overall is what we wanted." he says.

"Used to be? Surely you have hung up your spear to grow old and fat just yet, you look to be a man with many more moons of hunting before you. Is there something else in this area that calls you here, or perhaps a more specific reason to build defense here to stave something away."

○ BurneÂ’s Tower

Burne thinks about it for a moment. "That is really the only reason Rufus and I are here, Its far enough away from the prying eyes of the aristocrats in Verbobonc, and we can be ourselves out here, we don't have to pretend to be something we aren't. Hommlet was Rufus' home. Myself, I am from Fax, a small town along the Wild Coast, east of here. It was a terrible place, full of cutthroats and pirates. If I hadn't left with Rufus and the adventuring party when I did, I would have easily been conscripted aboard a ship heading towards the Azure Sea." he says.

Yaotl lets out a long deep sigh and looks downcast "Then my search for what calls me here continues." She visibly gathers herself and continues with Burne, "You are a brave soul to leave the world you know behind not once but more. This is something that I thought I have done but I prove to myself daily that my mind is still there."

She smiles, "You've given me hope, I should not give up on the opportunities right in front of me.  In the spirit of this, I fear that I need some help. The magic of my peoples are more focused on channeling the entropy of the world through the body, we do not have very many practices of study or viewing the world."

"So that leaves me in an awkward position," She says lightly, as if in jest, "I am in the hold of powerful channelers and in need. What do I offer? They surely have the means to deal with issues that arise before them. They surely have more gold than I can offer. If you were in my position, if you wanted to study under them to expand your horizons, what would you offer?"

○ BurneÂ’s Tower

Burne considered what the women was asking, it took him a minute to understand what exactly she way saying. But he thinks he understands the jist of it. "You wish to be my apprentice?" he asks. "If that is what you are asking, then I would have to think about it and see if you would be a suitable student, I am a long way from being a Wizard, I am just a Magician, in the eyes of the Arcane. I could take on an Apprentice at this stage in my life, but I'm not sure what I would do with one, I know as an apprentice myself It was mostly learning just the basics of magic, and chores. With Rufus, he and I have trained men and servants that have come to us, which we have do chores. It would be very strange for me indeed to take on an apprentice. Although that does not mean I can not help you, especially to find whatever search for what calls you here. Maybe through divination we can find out what took you from your lands to this place." he says. "I am also more than happy to help you with expanding your knowledge in spellcrafting, and increasing your access to spells." he says.

"Hmm apprentice, that could have been the word I was looking for. Nevertheless your generosity is commendable and is your truth.  Perhaps in the future, on a day that has not stretched so long, I will talk to your partner and see how he instructs.  For today, however, I have seen an issue.  When we came across that piece of armor I noticed that all who were present were filled with consternation about the unknown magics within its depths. I would like to see these things are safe myself, if you have any spells to delve into artifacts then that would be wise to know."

Burne says after a moment of thinking about the issue. "Ah, I see, you need to be able to identify the nature of magical items. I have that spell in my repertoire, I could teach it to you. Although you will need the required materials to put it within your spell book, or whatever your cultures mages use to record their spells." he says.

○ BurneÂ’s Tower

This large stone tower sits upon the eastern border of Hommlet proper. It is the home of the wizard Burne, the warrior Rufus, and their band of men-at-arms, sometimes called Burne’s Badgers. The tower is surrounded by freshly dug ditches and the beginnings of field stone walls; it is obviously that a castle is being built around the site of the tower, though it is still in its earliest stages.

All the laborers are rushing around getting things together, the winds have picked up considerably, the workmen are trying to secure things down at the worksite.

In reply to Dungeon Master (msg # 35):

OOC - Assuming Korkas and Ali at minimum take the Goblin to the tower:

Ali carrying the Goblin so Korkas can keep an eye on it in case it awakens - walk up to the tower.  Seeing the activity, Ali moves quickly to the tower front door, asking for entrance and a meeting with Rufus and Burne -

(whomever is guarding at the front door to let them in)  Good day sir, my it is a bit blustery today, I see the weather has you all busy.  Might we have time to meet with Rufus and Burne, we have a need for help inquiring to this Goblin prisoner we have to gather information on him and hoping one of them can help, maybe talk to the fellow with there greater knowledge of Goblins and find out more of what is going on with there clans activities.

The posted guardsman nods at the request and allows you and whomever else is with you inside of the Tower, knowing that Rufus and Burne will want to hear about the capture of the goblin. Once inside you see Rufus standing in the main chamber. Burne is not present at the moment. Rufus looks to the gagged and tied goblin. "Where did you find it?" he asks.

Althiöf followed to Burne's Tower, wanting to meet the Big Guy himself.

"The goblin?  He was captured by some huge spiders and was on the menu to be their next snack."

He glanced around casually, making notes about his new surroundings.

Rufus shakes his head. "Burne told me about the goblins and your mention of the different clan markings that you saw. I've run into these clans before when I was traveling the Kron Hills, no good can come from these clans being allies. Something else, more powerful has to be calling to them and giving them orders." He walks over to the goblin and rips at its ragged shirt, and flips the foul creature over on its back. Showing branded in the middle of its back is another symbol. The symbol is that of an jagged swirl. "Its the symbol of Tharizdun, the god of Eternal Darkness, Decay, Entropy, Malign Knowledge, Insanity, and Cold. Not really someone that you want to mess with, even his cultists. If this goblin was caught by these spiders like you say, its likely that these cultists of Tharizdun have returned to the region, or have just been silent since the fall of the Temple." Rufus says more to himself than to the group. "The Temple may be active again." he says with a somber tone.

Rufus nods and you can see him touch the ring on his left hand, the gemstone within the ring glows for a moment and then you hear the sounds of footsteps coming from the nearby staircase. "This better be important Rufus, you know I hate being interrupted when I am researching." Burne says. When Burne gets to the end of the steps he looks up and notices the Dwarf and the others. "Oh, well you could have warned me that we had visitors." he says. You can tell that Burne has an exact copy of the same ring on his left hand that Rufus has on his. Rufus looks down at the tied goblin with the symbol on his back. "This important enough?" he asks. Burne looks at the goblin and the symbol. "Oh, this does not bode well, not well at all." he says. Rufus turns to Burne. "The Dwarf would like to share a few of his thoughts with us." he says. Burne turns to Althiöf and listens.
