Re: The Funeral of a Friend....

Korkas laughed as Kobort crashed into the ground, he jumped forward with a wild kick into Kobort side and followed it up with a strong uppercut towards Kobort.

OOC:
Attack 1: A kick just fit the flavor better than a wild swing. But can edit it.

23:55, Today: Korkas Stonedelver rolled 19 using 1d20+1 with rolls of 18.  Punch, +3 dam for Str.

Attack 2

23:55, Today: Korkas Stonedelver rolled 8 using 1d20+1 with rolls of 7.

Re: The Funeral of a Friend....

Korkas is able to get a another good blow against the Half-Orc. When the Half-Orc goes down the crowed of watchers cheered out, the Dwarf being the underdog in the fight, from their perspectives. When Korkas brings the second attack around, he manages to connect with it too, The Half-Orc being opened to a rear attack, and the Dwarf hitting him while he is prone on the ground. The uppercut strikes hard and dazes the Half-Orc, but he is still able to make it back up to his feet, he staggers a little, and tries to deliver another uppercut, I guess its the Half-Orc's signature move!. The Half-Orc looks to be on his last leg, he is staggering.

You manage to get just enough with the +4 from Prone, and the +2 from Attacking from the rear. (2 HP/5 TEMP) Total Damage so Far: (4 HP/10 TEMP)

Attacking with a 14 vs AC 7, hit, and does an Uppercut. +1 Damage +STR (3) for a total of 4 Damage. (1 HP/3 TEMP). Total Damage so Far: (3 HP/9 TEMP)

Re: The Funeral of a Friend....

Korkas goes down after the last uppercut, the blow is enough to send him to the ground, unconsious. Being a good sport the Half-Orc leans down and checks on the Dwarf, then looks over to Virius, which he assumes is his companion since they were sitting together. "Might wanna come get him and put him inside, it might rain again." says the Half-Orc.

Re: The Funeral of a Friend....

Virius released a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding and relaxed his left hand.  As surreptitiously as possible, he'd been working his fingers through Bartleby's third and eighth finger movements ... the somatic precursor to many spells.

He nodded a curt acknowledgment at the half-orc, allowing the brute his moment.  The wizard walked over to over Korkas' still form,  laying crumpled and senseless at his feet.

He glanced back to the Gnarleymen.  "Some help, lads?"  He asked, intent on bringing Korkas back to his room where the proud dwarf could rest until consciousness returned.

Re: The Funeral of a Friend....

Robbar and Tomas both shrug and move over to help with the Dwarf. They each take an end and carry him back inside the Inn and lay him onto one of the benches. Kobort walks back over to Turuko and retrieves his sword, strapping it back onto his side. Turuko pats his companion on the back. "Dwarf should have kept his mouth shut." he says. Kobort still a little shaken and dazed from the fight says. "The little runt was strong, I gotta admit." The two continue inside the Inn and go over to one of the tables and sit down. Furnok ended up wining the bet between Zert and himself, and collects a pouch of coins. Zert is upset that the Dwarf lost and scoffs, walking back inside the Inn.

Back inside the Bard continues a melody of song accompanied with the soothing sounds of his lute. With the fight over, Vesta returns to the main room with another tray filled with cups and ale. She sets them on the table near the middle of the room. Then retires to where her Mother is siting at the end of the bar and takes a seat with her. Ostler moves over to them and the three start talking.

Robbar and Tomas return to the seats they had before and start drinking again. Father Calmert having watched the two Rangers bring the Dwarf in and lay him down on one of the benches moves over to him. Looking at Virius he asks. "Would your companion like to wake?" he asks. "I'm sure St. Cuthbert will think he worthy enough to bless him with divine healing, even if he failed in combat. It took strength for your friend to step up to such a larger foe, St. Cuthbert recognizes that." he says. The Father was asking permission to place a prayer on the Dwarf, but not knowing that these two were not companions, only assuming as such, was seeing if it would be ok.

"I am sure that Korkas would appreciate that."  VIrius admitted.

"Particularly if your patron saint can relieve him of the headache he's likely to have."  He added with a grin.

The two spellcraft traditions were so different, that the young wizard knew very little of how divine magic worked.  Out of a sense of professional curiosity, he followed along intently as Father Calmert performed his blessings.

Re: The Funeral of a Friend....

Father Calmert stands over the Dwarf and places his hands on his chest. He slowly starts a prayer chant. "Enlightenment can penetrate even the helm of iron." a slight glow appears under the hands of Calmert and divine energy starts to flow into Korkas. A moment later the dwarf wakes, unphased by the events that made him unconscious, the swollen areas already vanishing. Father Calmert removes his hands from the Dwarves chest and gives them both a nod. "Remember St. Cuthbert rewards those who give freely to the needy." he says.

Korkas snaps his eyes open as he gets ready to fight some more. As he adjusts he looks to Father Calmert kneeling over him and nods his head. He stumbles out "Thanks" as he tries to get a bearing on his surroundings. And then he smiles "You see that. Almost had him." As he pushes himself to a sitting position "Owe him a drink."

The locksmith walked in just in time to see the Father cast a spell upon Korkas, who had appeared to be lying prone on a bench.  He walked over to that table, standing next to the Father and asked quietly to those at the table, "Is all well?  What happened?"

Althiöf also appeared slightly wounded, with his boots fairly muddied.

Virius caught Althiöf up on the goings-on at the inn.

"Friend Korkas had some words with the half-orc.  They weren't pleasant ones."

The mage took note of Morad's wound.  "And you?"  He inquired, gesturing toward the dwarf's acid burned tunic.

"Say, Tesh, did I hear right that you're a wizard of some sort?  Do you have the ability to detect magic at the moment?"

Hollen took things in stride. Just some settling of the natural order, if no blood was spilt, he'd wait for his new companions to update him then tell the Ranger Lord of his plan to assist them in their quest. Hollen sipped his ale and looked around carefully to see if he saw anyone looking particularly upset with the Dwarf for his part in the row.

Re: The Funeral of a Friend....

No one seemed to look upset, actually in a turn of events, the Half-Orc and his companion were now starting to feel more relaxed and were talking to others, not just looking suspicious, like they just robbed a caravan or something. The rest of the Inn was starting to settle down too. The Halfling had stopped with the gambling and had started nursing a drink. Elmo had stopped stiring and was completely passed out against the wall. The Bard had left and retired to his room upstairs.

"I am."  Virius' reply, when asked if he was versed in magick.  "A wizard works his Art like your people work stone, master dwarf."  Tesh replied, his interest piqued.  Could this have something to do with his haggard appearance?

"The unraveling of mysteries is the sweetest thrill.  And like any good craftsman knows, the cost paid is in the grueling hours of preparation and study, yet we always stand ready to broaden our understanding."

"Did you have something in mind?"

Korkas sat on the bench still, not quite ready to stand up. He extended his hand to the Father "Thank you!" he offered again. Looking to Although "Yeah he called me a runt, I called him a couple choice names. Fun was had. He fights better than most my opponents from the pits. I owe him a drink. Almost had him too, held back a bit to much on my punches. Hey got my weapons?" he finishes looking yo Tesh

He wanted privacy, no as not to start rumors about people who might be innocent.  But alas, privacy had not existed at the Inn for the entire day.  "I do, Tesh.  If you could come with me for a moment outside, I'd like to show you something.  Examine it, even."

Re: The Funeral of a Friend....

Father Calmert while still standing there motions to the side rooms. "Should you want privacy, the Inn offers rooms for groups like yours, should the need arise." he says, and then steps away from the group and back over to the bar. The Cleric was right, two rooms lead from this area with doors, both were opened with no one inside. Ostler overhears the offer to use the room and gives his nod of approval to Althiof, and the others.

Virius nods and follows the men to the adjoining room, shutting the door behind them.

He spends a moment preening, plucking a piece of non-existent fluff from his robes.

"What is it that you would have me examine?"  He asked, clearly intrigued and trying not sound too eager.

The dwarf would rather have gone outside as he asked, but instead followed the wizard to the private room, and then waited for the door to shut.

"As I am no magician, can you tell me how this spell works.  Does it last long enough to look at a few objects, or just enough for one?"

Re: The Funeral of a Friend....

Watching the pair head off for privacy, Hollen relaxed somewhat when he saw that no further fighting was eminent. He sipped his ale and tried to relax. There was still something about cities that set him on edge, he would be far from here as soon as he could. Taverns were another story. He'd inherited some of his father's love of the roadside inn and good ale though he preferred his roadside inns well away from cities and crowds. He idly wondered what in the world the dwarf might have found, quickly dismissing the thought, wasn't his business. He resolved to wait, speak to the Ranger Lord and maybe pickup something about the impending mission or quest or whatever it was.

Re: The Funeral of a Friend....

The dwarf looked at Tesh, with some confusion upon his countenance.  He had asked if Tesh could detect magic at the moment, Tesh led him to this private chamber, but just now said he could not, although he could examine a construct.  "Oh.  No, that won't do at all."  His mind turning, he wondered if he could get the Father to help him out instead.

"Well, let me tell you something else I worked out.  I got someone to loan us a wagon for tomorrow.  This business recently had a wagon robbed by these same goblins.  The wagon will be loaded with fake goods.  This way, if we act like teamsters and wagon-guards, we might draw the goblins out of hiding, rather than need to search them out."
