Re: OOC Chat
I know I've been kind of keeping to the periphery, and I do apologise about that. I had some other things take priority recently.

It's odd. Thalgrond, you as a GM are outstanding, and I really mean that. I find you responsive yet firm, imaginative and an excellent writer. I tend to find the premise of your games really fascinating as a reader and as a participant.

And you tend to attract an above average subset of players (if I do say so myself)

But like so many games, we seem to run into "momentum" issues.

I wish I had the solution, I had high hopes for the Pathfinder game as it started out so strong, but some how that petered out as well.

If be willing to try, to keep trying, but (and I may get be mistaken in this) the overall energy in the group seems to still be fairly low.

Wish I knew what to say.

I honestly don't know if Marit or Marc speaks first... or if it doesn't matter.

I don't think it matters, really. If you want to start, feel free; otherwise I'll be able to tomorrow afternoon.

Re: OOC Chat
Yeah, I know what you mean. I think that ultimately I just have a GMing style that doesn't work well with an asynchronous text format. I tend to set up games that are supposed to be very player-driven, but that's hard to do on this site since people tend to want to wait for their "turn." They don't want to step on anyone's toes, least of all mine, and while that's admirable, it can bring things to a grinding halt quite rapidly.

It's hard to get across the idea that, in such a game, one should usually post any time they have an idea. That's just not the way things are done here.

It was also a stupid decision for me to throw a large combat encounter with a set initiative order at you in the Pathfinder game. Those always grind things to a stop.

Re: OOC Chat
So, I actually didn't have a concrete plan for what the strange thing captured on the camera might be. :) Some vague possibilities-- dense cloud of unknown composition, a being so strange it's hard to wrap the mind around, robot not matching any of the designs they left Earth with, amorphous blob of who knows what. I also didn't have any thoughts about what it was doing-- moving past, messing with a wall terminal, dancing for the camera.

Anyone have any ideas or preferences? I don't want to say it's a hostile mass of tentacles from the other side of the galaxy if someone would prefer to see a benevolent crystalline being of unfathomable beauty.  If not, I'll just wing it.

Approximately ten seconds from Duck Dodgers In The 24˝th Century interlaced into ten minutes of the security footage, a single animated frame for each sixty recorded frames.

Re: OOC Chat
I'd prefer not to have any aliens currently on the ship, just for the sake of preserving the original concept of the series as a drama wrapped around Contact style alien radio analysis. However, I have a few ideas.

I will tell you now, HYPATIA's memory banks have been messed with. Somebody doesn't want you talking to Earth, and some If you like, Marit may have stumbled upon an artifact of that memory manipulation. Something in the hallway doesn't match up with what's actually there, or the footage timestamps are offset by a few minutes, or there's an inexpertly-laid cut inserted into the footage, revealing a few frames of a wall panel being open.

It's your game as much as mine, but something like that would be my preference.

Does anybody who's not currently in a scene want to call? Now that scene 3 has wrapped up, this includes HYPATIA. John will have to wait a little while before calling another scene.

John, did HYPATIA give you what you wanted?

But I feel like calling End Scene may have been a dick move, so I deleted that just now. If she has more she wants to say then cool, otherwise, yes, it met the objective I had.

In reply to The Signal (msg # 656):

I was mostly being flip with those. No one wants to see tentacled horrors on their ship. :)

I'd thought about some sort of visual artifact or recording glitch a while ago, but it's been long enough that I forgot. Will build on that. It's going to take me a few days, though-- I'm in a show that I've been thinking was a few weeks away for a while, and it turns out that it's next week and check-in is in on Monday. And of course I haven't got any of my shit together, so I need to turn the computer off and do that. Hoping it won't take that long (but with a 6-year-old, you never know!), but if nothing else I'll be able to post on Tuesday.

I think that was a great place to end the scene. Didn't object to your calling it in the least.

I've sent Beck another message. Please stand by, Alex. I'll get things moving one way or another soon.

Would anybody else like to call a scene in the meantime?

Re: OOC Chat
Certainly. I want to give Alex something to do. Alex, does this sound okay to you? And, if Beck does make a comeback, would you be comfortable playing two scenes at once?

(They obviously wouldn't happen simultaneously in the canon timeline. Alex may be a supertech-equipped doctor with the powers of science and technobabble on his side, but not even he can accomplish that.)

Re: OOC Chat
Go ahead and call the scene, John. HYPATIA, you can call one as well if you want.

For those familiar with the system: I realize that I am violating the rules-as-written idea that we should have a set order in which to call scenes. I'm more concerned with keeping things moving than ensuring that order is maintained. If you feel you're being slighted, message me. If you want to call a scene with somebody who's already in a scene, talk to that person and work something out.

Why don't we keep Alex's scene call for scene 4 with beck and replace it with me, and I'll pm Signal with my objective. Start with Alex double checking John's eyes.

Re: OOC Chat
I'd rather we call a whole new scene. To start, who should be the petitioner? Sounds like you want it to be John - that works for me. What is it you want from Alex?

Hello. I'm currently neck-deep in a depressive episode, so I apologize in advance for being unresponsive for the next little while. I'm going to create scene 6 as an empty and untitled thread for now, and whoever is playing there can go ahead and post.
