Re: Canthus of the Veil

Once the automaton's skittering has passed beyond hearing, there is no other such noise.

The strange pylon on the ceiling, though, does have one tiny light blink, just once.  A blue color.  Whatever it is, it may still have some power.

Re: Canthus of the Veil

As Breogh heard Hoa he also thought of checking on the critter so he turned back and saw Artor trying to do the same thing. “How’s our little pocket monster? I hope  that centipede is not like its mum , looking for her puppy, i mean it does look more likely they have a different kind of relationship but you never know when it comes to machine evolution” he was about to get an arrow ready when he saw that flickering tube, he walked towards it, it might completely power up with his touch

Derrick stays close to where the automaton disappeared; intending to let the others investigate the strange device while he patrols for threats.

"I'm more worried about the pylon in the ceiling? Is it a defense system?" Alyssa tries to fathom whatever the pylon's purpose could be.

Re: Canthus of the Veil

Breogh realized that his objective is many feet above him but decides to give it a try to climbing .. the question of Alyssa reminds him that it would be good to take some measures.. still his instincts are still pushing him forward

"Hmm, i really hope their not some kind of weapon.. can anyone keep and eye on it in case it tries to attack me? it might be needed to shoot at it as i try to go up.. also i would appreciate someone on the base to keep an eye on me should i fall down."

After saying that he hangs the bow on his shoulder , gets a couple of arrows in his pocket should he find them necesary to act as a weapon or climbing tool and starts looking for a place to lock his hands on in order to push himself upward

OOC : 14:43, Today: Breogh Nah Hut'l rolled 18 using 1d20.  Might roll with effort . –

Derrick moves to stand under Breogh as he starts climbing. "I'll keep an eye on it and you from below since I don't have a good way to shoot anything at it without resorting to throwing rocks."

Alyssa inspects the devices for a while and then says. "I can not be sure of course, but I think it is an irrigation system, this might have been a place where you grew plants in the past." she finally suggests.

Re: Canthus of the Veil

Breogh easily climbs the pillar, with the sconces (?) proving strong and stable.  He reaches the top and finds the device unchanged during his climb, firmly secured to the ceiling.  To the touch, it is slightly warmer than the air.  There are narrow pipes or conduits that it is attached to.  They spiderweb along the ceiling, but there are no other devices he can see.

OOC: You can attempt to recover it whole, dismantle it for parts, ignore it, or ... something else?

"It has not the words", Artor whispered to Breogh's question about his automata familiar. He watched, eyes glittering beneath porcelain as the othe retreated and climbed to where the little light flickered, then turned away, using the end of his glaive to sweep and poke at some of the detritus strewn across the floor

"Be careful Breorgh. I'm not sure how it works, but maybe this place can be used for it's original purpose to grow plants again. If you would dismantle it, I'm not sure it can be fixed again."

"I will" says Breogh to Alyssa's advice,  "Lets see if i can turn this on while is still up here, if it doesnt work i could try taking it whole and bring it down so all of us can analyze it"

OOC: So i was wondering to try applying the iluminating touch to it at first

Breogh hears Alyssa from down below while touching the tube and making it project some light, but nothings else happens, since she sounds confident and he trusts she knows what she is talking about.

He decides to try unmounting that device in order to bring it down in order for Alyssa to see it. "Well.... lets see if i can figure how to bring this down without breaking it"

Canthus of the Veil

Breogh is able to work out the fixtures and detach the device from the ceiling.  It's fairly heavy but manageable, given the sturdiness of the "bowl" he is sitting it.  It takes some time, effort, and lashing, but the device is safely lowered to the floor, illuminating the assembled explorers.

Canthus of the Veil

Derrick moves around on the ground like a mother hen as Breogh works with the device. He watches carefully the whole time as it is lowered to the ground.

Once the device is on the ground, he peers at it curiously, but without any real hope of understanding what it is on his own.

Canthus of the Veil

In reply to Derrick (msg # 457):

Alyssa studies the device intently. She begins by pushing a non-descript part of the device, which opens a hidden compartment and three colored buttons appear, one red, one blue and the last one green. Alyssa begins pressing these buttons and playing the device like an instrument, everytime she does so a note can be heard. The notes combines into music, a sad tune at both harmonious and discordant at the same time. She suddenly stops.

"There, that should do it" she concludes.

A dozen small nozzles emerge from the device and start spraying water everywhere, including on the party.  It is not painful or damaging, but there is some force behind it.

Alyssa laughs at their discovery, a laughter of pure joy and hapiness. What a wonder! "I have no idea! But it's water. And it's fresh!" Alyssa turns it off with a rather simple twist of a protuding part on the device.

Re: Canthus of the Veil

Breogh rubbed his chin as he hypothetized as how would the devide get so much water out of nothing.. ¿moisture in the air?¿A miniture portal to somewhere? then the body language of some of his quest partners gave him the hint that they wanted to go back with the device as soon as possible to make sure that valuable asset could be used by the colony, he had seen that look many times in the past as his clan found something useful.. on the other hand,, he was more prone to continue going forward.. he had to know what that thing in the dark was..

"I guess we can get that thing to safety first and then go back to see what's down there.. or maybe not all of us need to go back,  What so you think about spliting?

The older man considered briefly, and shook his head.

"As much as I want to keep going now, the stakes are too high."

"We currently possess an Instant Tower and a water supply."

"If these things were successfully brought back to the safekeeping of the new settlement, they could be an invaluable gain."

"However, if we perish before we can return them, it would be a significant loss."

"I believe that we should stick together, in order to protect one another and to protect these items, until they are safely delivered.  It is our duty."

Re: Canthus of the Veil

The journey back to the fledgling aldea was hot, but otherwise uneventful.  A few distant herds could be seen, but nothing worrisome.

Your arrival back in New Canthus, with your treasures, is celebrated with whatever meager feast the folks can provide (given their new efforts at farming).  However, there is plenty of fish and items gathered from the jungle, as well.
