It can be... I assumed you'd rather take your boat at least part of the way; but either way is fine with me.

Give me a roll for your fishing.

Being less predictable by being on foot is better, especially in a small creek where one cannot escape if set upon. Will go by foot.

Rolled 2 under fishing skill...

Over the course of the later afternoon you end up with 5 decent sunfish and a nice 1 kilo trout

Lovely, especially as sunfish are usually salt water fish! Do we detect what else is in the water? Leeches? Crocodiles?

Re: A Riverman's Dream

OK, in the US sunfish aka Bream and Bass are all fresh water fish ...you can look them up on google.
No crocs or alligators known this far north (Freezes in winter). No leeches for same reason.

Lol, ok, cool. So the water seems pretty safe then? No other dangers known by a riverman to be in the creeks?

No, the only thing would be a sink hole or  something tangled around a foot. No animals to be concerned about except the odd snapping turtle, and only a fool get a finger or whatever close enough to be snapped on.

Sorry, my bad. Just representing checking twice! They suck...

Right, we were camping overnight, checking out the local fish. Yummy. Posting gaurds. No overnight activities? No fires spotted?

No, pretty quiet although there is a very faint glow to the southwest, mostly visible when a cloud scuds by ... You are undisturbed come morning. and are ready to carry on.

As for leeches ... yes, I dealt with them in Vietnam, not a favorite creature in my book.

Of to the south East but in the early afternoon you come to a feeder heading that way that has refuse and trash in it. Looks like people using it.

Is there a way to put a tree across the feeder to stop the shit being carried downstream?

Not really, there isn't even a tree suitable around, most everything here is brush or saplings at most. Nearest big trees are perhaps a Mile West of you.

Re: A Riverman's Dream

It varies between 6 feet and two, speeding up and slowing depending on how constricted it is.  Mostly it's around 3 feet or so down in a gull that is 4 to 5 feet deep but frequently has steep sides with no good place to walk. It is passable though and keeps you low if not invisible.

It's rather slow going  but by ate afternoon you see  many small columns of smoke across your front, the closest no more than a Half mile/Km away. A cautious peek over the top shows guards  a long bow shot away and behind them a large camp with a low wall around it.

Try to gauge what sort of defences they have. Try to also see the guards positions, and the troops numbers, but stay hidden.

Scared to roll, but feel a stealth is called for...

Re: A Riverman's Dream

OK, Make a per & IQ roll...

The guard post is 6 men with bows. All wear a cloth of Black and Red over their right shoulder and tied by their left hip. There are men on horse back riding around the camp as well. The brush is cleared and there is no chance to get closer. The Gully turns so that the guards can see right down it about 30 yards or so, they were obviously placed there for a reason, but they seem very relaxed and seem to be looking toward the camp more than away from it.

Re: A Riverman's Dream

It is more and more obvious these men are to prevent soldiers from leaving, more than looking for anyone coming in or attacking.

They have clear a spot the height of two men and have their fire in the middle, the dry grass around them being a concern.
The fence in about chest high on this side and stretches out almost too arms width to either side, it must be huge.

Right. Confusion may significantly reduce their numbers. Returning to his men some distance away, Mustafa will discuss what can be done to frame the guards for starting grassfire. Which way is the wind blowing?
