DESCRIPTION
A dark haired youth with a mischievous grin. He walks with an air of confidence, and gives the impression that he is quite competent with the scimitar displayed openly at his side. (He is equally competent with the war razors stashed less conspicuously about his person). A scar runs down the left side of his face and his nose is crooked from being broken at least once.



BACKGROUND
Vano grew up as part of a nomadic band of about 70 Varisians. His sister Brandi is younger by 4 years and is the darling of the community. His father, Qrow, and mother, Lenna, are accepted as the leaders of the caravan. They are both incredibly skilled bards. Vano didn't inherit their musical talents, but did enjoy learning the traditional sword dances of his people. He still practices when he can find the time and is known to put on impromptu performances when drunk enough. Vano does not know where the caravan is currently travelling, but he knows their paths will cross again when they are meant to...such is the Varisian way.

When he turned 16, Vano left the caravan to see the world, have adventures, and be independent. You could say he was successful in doing this... You could also say that he lived a year of debauchery and then accidentally became a pirate. One morning, after a night of far too many drinks, he awoke to unexpectedly find himself aboard a ship, press-ganged into joining a pirate crew. Thus began the darkest period of Vano's life...he doesn't talk about it.

Several years later, a older, tougher, and much less naive Vano finally earns himself some unsupervised shore leave. He reports the pirates to the local authorities and tries to help bring them to justice. Despite his best efforts, the pirates sail away. In the process of convincing the locals to help, he is forced into confessing his own crimes. The local sheriff decides that the most fitting punishment for Vano is to send him off to the Order of the Black Arrow to serve a term fighting giants at the border.

A couple years later, Vano has completed his basic training with the Order and spent several seasons patrolling the Storval Rise. He finally found a place where he fits in among the other reformed rogues and ruffians. The Order has given him a purpose and returned his pride. He is currently working toward full initiation into the Order. He has been tasked with travelling to Sandpoint, representing the Order at the rededication ceremony, and reporting back afterwards.

DESCRIPTION
Asur holds himself with an almost annoying amount of confidence, despite his short stature.  Though he claims to be Varisian, his hair is uncharacteristically blond, and his skin as pale as it gets.  Though he'll tell you that's just because he's been cooped up inside for too long.


BACKGROUND
Asur was left at the doorstep of a monastery dedicated to Sarenrae as an infant.  He grew up among the clergy and their books and scrolls, always eager to learn something new of the world outside of the cloister.  At his 16th birthday, to his and the clergy's delight, he heard the voice of Sarenrae, urging him to bring her light to the world at large.  Since then, he has wandered the world, doing odd jobs in exchange for food and lodging, acting as a mediator and healer, and spreading Sarenrae's light.  His wanderings have now brought him to Sandpoint, a new place for Asur! Just as he likes it.

Jensox trained Nova in the general purpose "guarding" so he knows the following:
Attack: Nova attacks apparent enemies (2 tricks, advanced attack means will attack unnatural creatures)
Defend: Nova defends Jensox automatically, or defends another creature if commanded.
Down: Nova backs down/stops fighting on command
Guard: Nova stays in place and prevents passage by others.

These tricks can be commanded as a free action with a DC 10 handle animal check. Untrained tricks can be pushed as a move action with various DC's. Jensox gets a +4 circumstance bonus to all handle animal and wild empathy checks involving Nova.



DESCRIPTION
A tall, gaunt, old man bends over the end of the inn's bar, anxious legs not quite settling on the stool. His jaw line is set and stiff. Gravity has pulled down his weather-worn features over the years, giving his face a squished appearance with a tall forehead. Shocks of whispy white hair grow wild from scraggly patches up top, but there's probably more hair in his eyebrows and ears than anywhere else. There's an inception of patches on his cloak, which is likely older than most of the bar patrons. Holes in the cloak reveal an equally worn leather breastplate. His left hand clutches a stout, knurled walking stick, while his right arm hangs down and absent-mindedly scratches a large dog's ear. His nervous gaze, incongruous appearance, and ugh, that smell! combine to give him a wide berth at this bar. Even the most rural citizens of Sandpoint have some sort of standards...




BACKGROUND
  • These are our lands, as far as the hawk flies, as wide as our auroch roam.
    Jensox was born in the Shoanti Hawk clan, growing up with the migrating herds. While the larger part of the clan has been pushed up to the Storval Plains, his family unit tended to stay more southerly, in the Curchain Hills, increasing contact with more "civilized" folks. Life was still very Shoanti however: animals and movement, hunting and scraping from the land.

  • In the herd is life, but there is more to life than the herd.
    Jensox became a shepherd, and built a Shoanti life following his growing sheep and aurochs. Marrying, and starting a more personal flock. His life, like a healthy new calf, was growing and bright.

    Eventually a new chieftain. Strife. Flock lost, Jensox and his animals left the tribe.

  • Shame on the Shepard who runs when the wolves howl.
    After years of solitude, Jensox and his herd found balance. He grew old in a comfortable routine, if one lacking in culture or conversation. But he and his canine companion kept the sheep safe, and the sheep in turn provided enough. Jensox was the itinerant Shepard, known of by a few and friendly with fewer. Sleeping in the trees near the animals, chasing away opportunistic predators, and slowly, mostly through necessity, picking up the basic skills of a druid, while the skills of society crumbled from dis-use.

    As his sheep most recently returned to their southern grazing grove, a forest pruned and cultivated over years for his flock, the greater society reared its unfortunate head. There were signs posted claiming his wood! A woodsmen, felling trees, fled Jensox's displeasure, but not before droning on about... about a pett...mission?, and a, ... herring? Travel where? Gozreh drown them all, it seems like Jensox must head to town and sort out... whatever the hell is going on.

DESCRIPTION

Dark hair and dusky skinned, her eyes say she is in on some joke that no one else has discovered yet. She has the easy smile and a welcoming demeanor of someone who genuinely likes people. And when she shares that joke it will never be at someone's expense. She has been known to convince strangers to join her and her cousins at their table as they carouse in a tavern, especially if the stranger looks in need of cheering up. And if she likes the stranger well enough, they will even leave with all their money still in their pockets. If, however, they turn out to be terrible company, then they obviously owed her some compensation. She would rather run away than kill someone but she will protect herself, family, and friends with surprising ferocity when necessary.

She is proud of her skills as a thief and con artist, and especially proud that she has never been caught. Her other point of pride and adoration is her horse, Aria. She loves to show off how Aria can mimic the tune to a particularly bawdy bar song as she claps the beat. If a person seems of a roguish bent, she might also regale them with the story of how she stole Aria from a certain prestigious breeder. The story sounds so unlikely that it must be true. Though, as her cousins know, she is prone to a certain amount of hyperbole as befits any dramatic storyteller.



BACKGROUND

Aurora Lesandre goes by Rory among friends and family. When telling fortunes or dancing she goes by Madam Aurora, as is proper. Growing up among a Scarne band of the Varisia, she learned pickpocketing and lying like a farmhand learns to use a hammer and rope. Among her cousins (of which she has so many an outsider might wonder if they are all actually related) she is often the instigator and the distraction for their cons. Sometimes she is the dancer while one cousin collects freely given money as thanks for the performance, and another collects the money that should have been freely given but remained in the pockets of the less charitable onlookers. As is only fair.

Her other con, one she thoroughly enjoys, is telling fortunes. She started doing this for fun when she was around five years old, mimicking her mother, Inez, who is a revered wise woman among the Scarne and a diviner of some power. When Rory was seven she had a true vision. She saw that their band would be attacked on the road. Instead they were able to lay an ambush for their attackers, saving the lives of many of her people. Her grandmother still talks about this with pride. But her mother wonders if it was Rory’s own vision, or a spell Rory unwittingly stole from Inez as she began to come into her own strange powers. For her part, Rory is not sure. Her memories of the incident are fuzzy. Occasionally, she gets a sense of things to come, a vague feeling, or something else that could easily be chocked up to mere instincts, but nothing like her mother’s power. Her fortune telling mostly relies on reading her mark’s body language and telling them what they want to hear. Because no one likes to pay for misfortune.

It is her Aunt Lin, her mother’s sister, who teaches her how to dance and how to fight with the blade scarf. And her father  Adar who does his best to keep the peace when his wife and sister-in-law argue about what should become of Rory. At 21, Rory is mostly happy where she is, traveling to different cities, meeting new people, and causing trouble with her cousins. But sometimes she is also bored. She does not want to be her mother’s or her aunt’s successor. She has been thinking lately, that it might be past time for her to go out on her own for a time. But until she gets the nerve to leave she is excited to join the festivities and make some coin at their next stop: Sandpoint.
