Vano steps up next to Rory, drawing his blades as he moves. He lashes out with his scimitar, attempting to kill the goblin in front of him.

Vano move action: Move to H19, draw scimitar and war razor
Vano standard action: Attack goblin at H20
-rolled 19 using 1d20+6.  Scimitar attack.
-rolled 10 using 1d6+4.  Scimitar damage.

Vano glances to his side. "That's quite the scarf you have there. I tried to learn to use one when I was younger, but didn't have the knack for it"

Droart! Take him alive, his tiny fists are no threat!

Asur stands over the Doggo to defend him with his walking stick.

Rory grins at Vano, "Seems you have more than a knack for your blades though!"

Rory moves to Q10 using her full turn for the extra movement.

Assuming the paladin takes care of the goblin she calls out to Asur, "Cleric, if the dog is okay I wouldn't mind a little healing in case more of those goblins show up."

With his enemy down and no other threats in close proximity, Nova returns to Jensox's side. As the pup trots back, Jensox scouts the courtyard for unnoticed dangers and listens for anything strange outside the square. Staying alert, he reaches down with a practiced hand and scruffs Nova's ears in just the right spot, much to his companion's joy. "'ood job, 'ova. Real 'ood job."

Nova moves to square L27, receives pets, and defends Jensox.
Jensox makes a perception check for additional threats or unusual activity.
Jensox remains using total defense.

Re: [Book 1.1] - Festival and Fire

Finally getting over his momentary hesitation, Vano closes with one of the goblins and drops it with a single hit from his scimitar.  Xol moves southward to close on the lone remaining foe, while Droart slashes it across the chest.  Asur maintains his vigil over the injured doggo, while Rory moves down to ask for some healing.  Nova returns to his master, and the pair are reunited again.

The lone remaining goblin, injured and out of its mind with rage, tries to close and punch Droart with its tiny fists - the paladin anticipated the attack this time, though, and his sword strikes true again, putting down their last remaining foe.

With the goblins all dispatched, a momentary hush falls over the square.  Indistinct shouts and sounds of chaos echo from elsewhere in town, although they are all far enough away that it's impossible to pin down a direction at this point in time.

Vano move action: move to H19 and draw his weapons.
Vano standard action: attack Goblin at H20 - HIT Goblin for 10 damage.
-Goblin at H20 DIES.

Xol: Double move to K13.

Asur: Full Defense

Droart standard action: Attack Goblin at M9 - HIT Goblin for 4 damage.

Rory: Double move to Q10.

Nova: Move to L27, receive pets.
Jensox: Dispense Pets, Full Defense.

Vano looks around to see if there is any more danger, or if any townsfolk are seriously injured. "Is everyone alright?" he calls out.

If he notices neither (and if we are out of combat turns) he searches the two dead nearby goblins.

In reply to Rory (msg # 53):

Asur smiles apologetically at Rory.

I’m going to have to save the magical healing for more dire wounds, in case the goblins have caused more than mischief in town.  But I’d be happy to bind your cut normally until we’re sure the danger has passed.

As Asur moves to Rory to bind her cut, he gives Droart a severe look.

Droart, there was no need to kill him, he posed no threat without a weapon, and we could have gotten answers from the Goblin.  I’m not mad, just disappointed.

Using a healer’s kit: 0:24, Today: Asur rolled 29 using 1d20+9. Binding Rory’s wound

Re: [Book 1.1] - Festival and Fire

A few more moments of quiet pass, and people start to peak out from behind corners, around carts, and through the door to the new cathedral where they'd taken shelter from the goblin's attack.  While most of the citizenry appears hesitant to enter the square proper, Father Zantus steps out of the cathedral, accompanied by Ferak and Isa.  Zantus mutters a few words and places a glowing hand on Rory's shoulder, wiping away the cut left by the goblin's crude blade.  "Thank you for coming to our aide; I have no doubt there are more of the foul creatures running amok through the city even now."

At that moment, Ferak points to the cathedral's rooftop with a cry - "Look, there's another one!"  With its cover blown the goblin tries to move faster than it should on the sloped stone; it trips, and comes crashing down onto the cathedral's stone steps, its neck obviously broken on landing.

Zantus shakes his head and opens his mouth to something, but before he can speak a tremendous thunderclap echoes through the square and a plume of black smoke starts rising to the south.  The priest recovers remarkably quickly, pointing towards the fire.  "That must have been one of the fuel carts for tonight's bonfires!  Please see to them, I'll try and lead the rest of the townsfolk to safety."

Vano turns toward the sound of the explosion and is in motion before Zantus finishes speaking. He starts jogging in the direction of the smoke and calls out to the other surprisingly capable people in the square. "If you are willing to keep fighting the goblins stick close to me. Otherwise please help protect the townsfolk!"

He keeps an eye out as he goes, glancing down any side alleys and making sure to look above at the rooftops.

Rory takes a moment to bow deeply in thanks to Father Zantus then turns to her cousins, "Ferak, Isa, can you help the townsfolk? And keep an eye out for Jamis, I don't see him anywhere. And most importantly, stay safe!"

She runs to catch up with Vano and gives him a grin, "Guess the fun's not over yet!"

As she heads with Vano towards the explosion she keeps an eye out for both goblins and her pickpocketing cousin Jamis.

Jensox has little interest in further troubles, and this violence is just further evidence that coming in to town was a terrible idea.

Nova, on the other hand, immediately trots after Vano, stopping 30' from Jensox and looking over his shoulder. He gives a staccato bark.

"What? i's not our figh', 'ova!"

Nova's shoulders slouch, crestfallen.

"Oh, don't be like 'at, yous had your fun, we're no' chasin' any more 'erblins. We don' 'eed t' be riskin' our hides for this 'own!"

Jensox calls Nova back and they stay in the square, looking around warily.

Re: [Book 1.1] - Festival and Fire

Whole Jensox, Nova, and Xol remain in the courtyard with Father Zantus, Rory, Vano, and Asur head southwards to investigate the source of the giant plume of smoke.  They have barely left the courtyard when the instigators make themselves known; another group of goblins is marching  to the North, towards the courtyard and the cathedral.  The goblins up front are all carrying torches, while the one in the back is brandishing a whip and singing a marching tune in time with its footsteps.  "Catch the pup.  Bonk the head to shut it up.  Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed, We be goblins, you be food!  The goblins with torches apparently have no sense of rhythym whatsoever, and their steps fail to sync with the tune in anything beyond the most haphazard fashion.

Farther south, beyond the goblins, a low stone wall surrounds what those of you familiar with the area would know to be the White Deer inn.

As the others charge south from the square, Jensox and Nova continue to stand warily on guard. When no other enemies present themselves, Jensox gives a slight laugh and scratches Nova's head. The pair will stay near/under the small tree in the square until disturbed.

Re: [Book 1.1] - Festival and Fire

Slightly faster on his feet than the small goblins, Vano moves in and strikes the nearest goblin, dropping it dead with his first strike.  The small creature screams in pain as it dies, startling the other goblins out of their momentary lull.

The goblin with the whip gestures with its offhand, and Vano's eyes glaze over as an enchantment sows a momentary burst of confusion in his mind.  The goblin laughs, a shrill cackling sound, and continues its creepy singing.  "Goblins race and goblins jump.  Goblins slash and goblins bump.  Burn the skin and mash the head, Goblins here and you be dead!"

The other two goblins close on Vano, attempting to wedge him between them.  The first goblin to close swings its rickety weapon, and the pin on the dogslicer's hing breaks, depositing the blade on the ground.  The other goblin, missing any sort of aid from its ally, swings at Vano as well, and misses.

The sound of distant goblin scream works is audible as far north as the Cathedral, and Nova wines at the noise.  Father Zantus, picking up on the dog's anxiety, nods.  "Master druid, I fear they will need aid.  I will attempt to heal them, but it may not be enough.  Will you and your companion join us?"

Re: [Book 1.1] - Festival and Fire

Asur closes with the northernmost goblin, lashing out with one of his feet at the tiny creature's head.  The goblin ducks at the last second, although its corresponding lack of a working weapon leaves it unable to strike back in return.  Rory moves towards the chanting goblin, swinging with the razors in her scarf and also failing to find purchase.  And Vano stares straight ahead of him in a daze.

The goblins respond with attacks of their own, although they are still as incompetent as ever.  The chanting goblin tries to wrap her whip around Rory's foot, only to be stymied by a quick step from the agile dancer.  The haze is just starting to clear from Vano's eyes when the unarmed goblin charges forward, and acting almost entirely on instinct he cuts the creature down.  The sole remaining goblin wielding a weapon tries to land a blow on the swashbuckler, but Vano deftly parries its blow with his razor.
