Re: Out of Character

We're all more likely to be seen with a lantern lit, we're in a fairly tight formation, it's not as though they'll only see Ramirez.

We have a light source and a donkey, I don't think we'll be too effective on the sneaking front, regardless. Arrador would likely be more useful with his shield, as he's one of front line warriors.

Nick would like to attack, will there be a penalty to ranged attacks from the rear?

The LL rules don't address it directly. It does give options for adjusting AC for cover, from -1 to -4, however.

1e says you can but targets are randomly assigned.

There are 6 PCs between you and 3 small goblins, 4 of the PCs are engaged in melee, you are on unstable footing and leading a donkey.

I'd says that's a -4 and a miss hits an ally.

After a sudden change of heart, Nick will withhold his attack and instead feed a carrot to the donkey.

Re: Out of Character

Sorry, I think i'm a bit confused; I'm new to PbP, and was hoping I'd be able to follow along, but it seems like I've missed something. How does the combat round work? Do I go ahead make my attack and damage rolls first? And post my action based on that? And how do I know if I do hit the goblins with my roll, without GM input?

I will handle the combat rounds.  The first round the party was surprised, the goblins were not do only they got to act.

This is the beginning of round 2.  Falis rolled her attack, as did Zorbon.  I'm waiting on  Arrador & Valaric to declare an action.

Ramirez cast a spell and Nick is feeding the donkey.

Konrad has the ability to do something, but not attack.  He is to far up the stairs to reach the goblins.

Konrad:

You will declare your action, rolling to hit and damage when appropriate.  Leave it open ended, just posting your intent, not the effects.

Once everybody has posted something, (even if it's just "I watch nervously"). I will roll initiative and resolve the round.  Then everybody posts actions again.

Make sense?

Re: Out of Character

Faris, "Force Doors" is a 1d6 roll.  Normally a 1-2 succeeds. Your Str bonus means you succeed on a 1-2-3-4

In reply to freavulv (msg # 102):

So, since I've got a +1 to Str, that would mean I would need a 2-3 to succeed, am I understanding that correctly?

so...

a matter of housekeeping. As a general rule, do you want me to move you guys into the next room automatically or wait for someone to do something?

Are you finished in the entry hall?

I was waiting to form up the marching order and move on, but as long as it's assumed we're back in order, I'm cool with whatever.

I think if there is a lag then a gentle push ahead to the next room is going to be fine.

We can probably presume that we always get back into marching order unless it is said otherwise, like if somebody is particularly wounded.

I had my mace ready. Does it take a full round to switch weapons (to my sling) in LL?

Also curious... a lot of GMs I've played with in the past were pretty fast-and-loose about this, but you're not those GMs, GM.

I'd cross the span, but I don't trust that gonzo construction in combat... and being so heavy.

Re: Out of Character

Hey, I can be fast and loose...

of course, the rules aren't specific to every circumstance.

In LL a round is only 10 seconds.
combat order is MOVE, MISSILE, SPELLS, MELEE
almost all MISSILE weapons are two handed

I tried to come up with something complicated about dropping weapons vs sheathing them, etc and it was succeeding.

so this will be my house rule:  Its a slight bump for fighters, but hey, they are trained in combat to the exclusion of other academic skills.

Fighters: can change weapons in same round
Other classes: changing weapons take a round, can attack in next round.

Re: Out of Character

Heya!

EDIT: So, Game Master, so I bought those hammers with the intention of being able to throw them, but in all my years of playing Labyrinth Lord seem to have overlooked the fact that they don't have a range listed for throwing!  What's your ruling on this?  I'd like to gobsmack this Goblin from afar, I don't trust that bridge one bit!
