The STR bonus applies, but it changes the
TARGET number (
A result of 2 or less means the door has been broken down), not the die roll.
In the example above, the character gets a +1 str bonus, but if you add it to the die roll, it puts you farther from a 1-2, not closer.
In that example the character has to roll a
3 OR LESS on 1d6, adding a +1 to the die would make it harder to roll less than a 3.
A character with an 18 STR gets a +3, so the door opens if they roll a 1,2,3,4 or 5
