French Quarter - French Market
In 1791 a first enclosed market was built here to protect the produce from the elements. During the nineteenth century the market was one of the most exotic on the continent, with Native Indians, Creoles, African Americans and European immigrants all selling goods here.

The market that the people built here is not quite as grand, but Preston and the citizens have tried to capture the spirit with the white, colonial style pillars upholding the roof, and the many stalls within that carry the various wares of the people in the outskirts. Money is hard to find in the outskirts, so most transactions are barters, or bargains.

There are three sections of the French Market, called the market halls. The Halle des Boucheries or Butcher's hall, the Halle de Cuisine, and the Bazaar.
