"So how many lumberjacks are you holding right now?" Krisa was glad the creature was still talking. "Will you take others if they continue to cut down trees?"

"Aaah mistress, if I might interject just how much of the forest is yours? If we can keep the loggers away from your part would you release the others?" Bellias asked respectfully.

Startled, Lyrionial turns to look at the newcomer, having been too involved in his own thoughts to notice him before.

He looks at the dryad to hear her response, pondering whether there is anything useful he could add to the conversation.

Lurdgo looks at the rest of the group.
The town below.  Does it have a lord, a council, a guild.  Who rules it or governs it.
He asks.

"The stream is the as far as I can control. Anyone who cuts down trees on this side of the stream, I will stop. I will release the lumberjacks if they plant new trees. One man for each tree planted. I have eight men in my control."

OOC: the town has a mayor and council. The head of the lumber company is a member of the council.

"So if we get the township to agree to getting their lumber on that side of the stream, then you'll release the lumberjacks?" Krisa asked the creature of the fey. "And, of course, they should plant trees as restitution."

"Before we go and talk with the township. We need to see the lumberjacks. Need assurances that they haven't been mistreated. That okay with you, Melinda."

"It would help us to negotiate with the townsfolk." Lyrionial adds.

To Lurdgo he states "The town has a mayor and council, and the head of the lumber company is a member of the council. We can negotiate with them to see if we can find terms agreeable with everyone."

Melinda agrees to show you the lumberjacks. She leads you to a spot behind the hill. All eight lumberjacks are sitting on the ground in a daze. None of them appear to be harmed.

Lurdgo looks at his feet for a moment.
Scratches his ear and looks sideways at Melinda.
I want to ask two question.  Ones that I think may help us with our talks with the council.  But.  I do not wish to upset or offend you.

Krisa heard enough, "I'll start walking back to the lumberjack camp. Catch up when you've asked your question." She summoned an instrument when she was a few paces away. The tune was lively and cheerful.
    Once a jolly <lumberjack> camped by a <thicket of trees>
Under the shade of a coolibah tree,
He sang as he watched and waited 'til his billy boiled
You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me

    Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
You'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me
He sang as he watched and waited 'til his billy boiled,
you'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me

Krisa continued down the path towards the lumberjack camp. She decided to find the man in charge. "Hey!" She called out when she spotted the first fella. "Where's the man in charge? I need to speak with him."

Lurdgo nods.
How long have you been here in this forest?
Also do you know if there are any others of your kind near by.
If we going to get an agreement with the town for you then I see only right to get one for them as well.

"I have been here for years," Melinda says. "There are other dryads, but none close by."

Back at the lumberjacks, Krisa easily finds the foreman.
"Did you find my missing men?"

"That we did." Krisa turned back on the trail she traveled expecting to see the others. "All eight of them. A dryad captured them. They are unharmed. But you have a decision to make. Her demands are that you stop cutting trees on this side of the stream. The dryad has them under her protection. You may cut the tress on the opposite side. Those are the terms that she is asking for the return of your men. She also expects restitution. You'll have to plant a tree for every tree that's been cut." She didn't know what the others would say... but they weren't here.

"I think it's easier for you and better in the long run if you go along with her demands. The dryad will protect the woods that she has claimed, so you should believe that any poachers or bandits would be treated the same way. Perhaps one day, you could call her an ally. But that day isn't today. Unless of course, you want to have bad blood with the fey folk. Can't promise you that she is alone."

"Thank you for your answers. We will let the townsfolk know of your terms, and see what can be negotiated."

Lyrionial bows slightly to the dryad, and follows Lurdgo to catch up with Krisa.

"I see. I would rather not make enemies with the fey, so we'll comply with the dryad's demands."

It takes some time, but the foreman organizes a team and they plant eight trees near the stream where they had been cutting. Once they are done, the dryad releases the men from her magic and they return to their comrades.

"Glad that you're willing to meet her demands." Krisa smiled as she was joined by Lurdgo and Lyrionial, "These gentlemen and I decided to answer the call for help when the lumberjacks went missing. But seeing that the initial call went beyond merely finding some lost souls in the woods but being captured by the dryad."

"If we're to negotiate a settlement between the two parties, I believe that we should be compensated for avoiding a nasty conflict. I believe that 300 gold should be sufficient for us to pass along the word. That would be 100 for each of us."

Bellias returned later to the Dryad's grove as he crossed the stream into her domain he called out to her and then found a comfortable spot to sit and wait for her.  Upon her arrival he bowed and said "Lady of the woods I would speak with you if I may."

Lyrionial takes his share of the money and bows slightly, impressed by Krisa's skill at negotiating.

OOC: Mildly confused at the order in which things are happening, but happy to take the money and xp, hehe. Peaceful solution has been found, lumberjacks are released...  :)

Bellias scratched at his jaw for a moment and then asked in Sylvan ""Well met mistress Melinda, I am Bellias and I wanted to ask a few questions and possibly propose a mutually beneficial arrangement.  See I'm not so used to living amongst a lot of people so I was wondering if there was somewhere here I could set up a home within your copse of woods.  A meadow by the stream would be ideal.  In return I'll help ensure the townsfolk don't come to close.  Would something like that work for you?"
