Basic Rules and Guidelines

So, this page is just to give you a sense of what I am expecting from my players in the game. None of these are truly hard and fast, especially as I am relearning some of these skills.

I am the GM

I'm the GM, because someone has to be. I have a sense of what I want the game to be, and what the general tone of the game should be. I will do my best to always be fair to each and every player. But if it comes to it, my word in the game has to be final.

To that end, I am not a GM with encyclopedic knowledge of D&D. I don't want to spend hours of my time looking up a specific player subclass that was released in Dragon Magazine in Fall of 2020 to see if it fits in the campaign. Let's keep things reasonably simple on both sides of the keyboard, okay?

Everything is a conversation

Feel free to have a conversation with me about the game. Please feel free to make private suggestions as to what I can do better or what you would enjoy in the game. I will most likely take your suggestions to heart and apply them to the game, but I also may not take your advice. Regardless, I am always happy to hear what players want, and am willing to have a dialog about anything regarding the game.

ROLEplay not ROLLplay

Creating a game on a message board allows us to truly live our characters. So please roleplay your characters properly and to a degree consistently. Every post is a chance to flesh out your characters, and give some insight to me and your fellow players the type of character you are playing. To that end, play a character that you will enjoy roleplaying, don't create a Paladin devoted to his faith, and then roleplay him as if he is a wisecracking fool who doesn't respect authority. (Not that you have to be a stereotype, but you know what I mean)

Also, this is not a dungeon crawl. Make your character as "kick-ass" as you want, within the confines of the game. But, I am sending you out on a standard adventure that could be accomplished by a character with the highest ability score of 13.

Or more simply, I promise you that a TPK is not my goal, so don't try to leverage your character creation so you become some uber-PC.

No Power Gamers or Metagaming:

I have seen games falter because of power gamers. I know it is nice to one shot a boss, but to do it on a consistent basis where the other party members feel useless, takes the fun out of the game. Also, just because you have prior knowledge of something doesn't mean your character or other players do. So, try to keep outside knowledge away from in character knowledge.

Posting Suggestions

I would like people to post at least two-three days of the week, if not more. And that is my plan for how frequently I will advance the story. The more that people post, the more fun this will be.

And, while there sometimes is a need for short posts, where you are buying something or just agreeing with what is being said. I prefer quality over quantity.

Additionally:

* If you are going to be unable to access RPOL for a significant period of time (more than 3 days), please let me know. We can work out the details.

* Please let me know if you want to drop out of the game. It just is better for everyone.

Be Respectful

Give respect - Receive respect. It's that simple. Be respectful to the other players and me your GM, and we will show respect to you.

Alignment

Please choose an alignment that fits how you want to play your character. While there is some fluidity to alignment, I will find it difficult to accept that a Lawful Good character is suggesting to kill an unarmed surrendering enemy.

Have Fun

This is a game. This is supposed to be fun. In character conflict should stay in character, and not extend to real life.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.
