What I want to accompish
The impetus to run this game came from a rereading of some of the Emberverse novels by SM Stirling. I have always enjoyed books about immediate aftermath of some sort of Apocalypse, be it the Emberverse novels, Alas Babylon, or Malevil.
The idea for this game is that some sort of magical apocalypse has occurred, be it a mage war or some other supernatural conflict, has occurred. This is intended to be a game more about players dealing with a destruction of civilization, rather than wildly mutated creatures wandering a waste land. I have also liked the idea for quite a while of a low magic world, I enjoy a sword and sorcery novels in this will have some of the feel that I hope.
The game begins with a small group of travelers waking in the remains of an inn. Outside of their names they do not know who they are or anything else about the world. It is obvious that some massive cataclysm has occurred the landscape is clearly changed even if they do not remember what it was.
This cataclysm has shattered magic as it was known previously, and has also wiped knowledge of any gods from the minds of the survivors.
The players awaken in some sort of psychic daze, almost like a concussion. Their former skills are dulled, but can be regained to some extent.
