Re: OOC Conversation

Kenzie Rinne:
Yeah, I think just our opening scene shows how hard it would be to actually keep a total lid on that aspect of things. I like the idea of the two schools knowing about each other and generally being at peace, although the threat of mutual destruction seems a little... heavy? It works though :)

I'm not thinking mutually assured destruction. I'm thinking, I dunno, that the headmaster of Baneberry is something almost unstoppable, a dragon or the like, and the threat is "you hunt one of my kids, every human for ten miles dies in dragon fire."

Eliza Draper:
I think that might work, potentially with a sort of "the monster world had established this school as means to train their youth in fitting in - the hunters came in and tried to cause a ruckus - the threat gets laid out - and the hunters form a school and 'keep an eye on things'"

Brilliant. If there are no objections, I think that shall be the canon sequence of events.

Eliza Draper:
I absolutely think that we should do something where the peace is off as soon as the monsters leave Moorhaven, or something along those lines.

^ That. The threat of retaliation applies to students, and only students, and only within, let's say, the county within which the school is located.

Eliza Draper:
... as long as we stick to originally established backgrounds. It may need to change in tone or scope to still fit in, but the original tone did imply that the monsters were supposed to be, ah, worth hunting.

I'm not going to tell people that they can't tweak their characters, but the whole point of Baneberry is for the beings that attend to be dangerous, if not actively inimical, to human life. As mentioned above, if the school is meant as a place where the nonhuman kids learn to get on in human society without blowing their cover, they should generally have a reason to be in hiding in the first place, and considering humans a delicacy is a fine reason for that.

I am looking into expanding the appeal of playing a Baneberry student for the purposes of recruiting some more players and that's probably going to require lifting Ryuai's firm insistence that every non-human race be truly monstrous as a race, but the harmless non-humans would be a minority and maybe hunted just as fervently for reasons other than preying on humans. To use that one player that never posted previously, Shiro Gistune, as an example - assuming that I can take the name literally - a gitsune is a fox-like spirit the size of a rat which appears in large numbers, and while not exactly dangerous they're still vermin. Another Japanese example, because why not, could be the tanuki - also harmless, but a pest in most folktales and a delicacy of sorts themselves under the right circumstances.

Re: OOC Conversation

My two cents worth of opinion on this.

I can find my way to roleplay just about anything. If we stick with 2 schools that don't know the other one exists, I'll figure out how to make it work in my head.

I am also good with there being an enforced peace between the two schools. It is like having Xavier and Frost run schools for mutants. Everyone involved knows there are two schools and the students are supposed to leave each other the hell alone.

Both groups could be operating under "Masquarade" rules - everyone who is normal is better off not knowing there is a magical world. So both monsters and hunters are supposed to keep the whole thing a secret.

I come from a family of monster hunters. So of course I know that there are monsters. But we're more like 'monster cops' so honestly, don't care that you might be a monster as much as I care about you not breaking the laws.

Schools could work on two independent stories. They don't need to cross over.

Schools could have cross over stories, particularly against common threats.

I don't know about the long-term shape plan for the game. Start in School threads allows people to be in small groups to get to know each other. Cross over happenning almost right away (I did like the notion of zombies attacking the carnival - it certainly breaks the masquarade - maybe both groups have a reason to make that stop - and find the where and why of those zombies)

Felicia is a monster, but she could be a hunter as well. I am open to whatever I just dont want to loose the relationships Felicia has made with Kenzie, Pandora and Lesleigh.

Tiff's a monster, but the real issue with her isn't just what she might do as what her family does.

Re: OOC Conversation

That would be the same with Felicia, she can protect herself but if anything bad did happen to her. Her parents would be here in a heart beat and two Ancient Bastet's pissed off at you would be very bad.

Eliza Draper is a human girl  possessed by a specific type of demon

Guess I wasn't totally off base in my thinking. I was thinking she had a Symbiote (like the Venom character) inside her.

I'm still interested in knowing how the hunter squads are going to work--particularly since there is an indivisible number of student monster hunters.

Re: OOC Conversation

Anthony Arkham is going to be a Baneberry student that looks like a normal human. But he has twisted magic, a lot of power and a bad attitude so they sent him to live with the real monsters where, it should be noted, he belongs.

In reply to Anthony Arkham (msg # 39):

Welcome Anthony! (I am totally not just doing this since you joined the winning team, I mean to say hello earlier)

As for Eliza, it hard to call it a symbiotic relationship, but the monster part didn't completely quash the human half so they could hide their nature as the demon settled through pubterty. Eliza is still in there, but its hard to say that is any less monstrous than the alternative.

I am working on the wiki now, give me a little time to build some structure, and I can add requested pages.

In reply to Eliza Draper (msg # 40):

Damn, I had no idea Rpol even had a wiki function! Is there anything else I've missed?

Also how much of a genre shift is the new game gonna have? I mean it had already starting drifting while we were all unsupervised at the festival.

Are we gonna try and snap back to Fate's original plan or keep going ad we are?

I know you said you might slack his "monsters are monsters" rule and it seems to schools ate more in a cold war than a rivalry at the moment.

There's only one of me and I'm quite busy today, and I haven't gotten this far just yet with all of the things that have to get done first. However, Lesleigh is likely to be put on the sidelines in these kinds of activities for reasons that shall become apparent when we get there.

Re: OOC Conversation

The most help people can be is to get their character sheets, descriptions, portraits, and biographies squared away, followed by contributing to the wiki if there is any information they wish to add. That way when  I go to move the old game's thread over to this game, everything will be in order without additional fiddling from me.

In the same vein as the previous topic about the school's awareness of each other, there is the matter of what, if anything, the government knows. For that, I'd like Jason to outline some thoughts that he had that Ryuai originally shot down as well as opening the floor to any other ideas. Anything else that people want to hash out would also be a welcome discussion topic.

One that I think I'm going to just decide unilaterally, seeing as my original character was Lesleigh and the rest of the Ebongroves with her, is the definition of a witch: this is any human with magic inside them which they can use to cast spells, as opposed to a human who does not have it and would have to use an outside source to power any spellcraft they happened to learn. A spell consists of an incantation at the absolute minimum and can also include a wide variety of other materials, tools, rites, and reagents as the power and complexity increases. It's worth noting that most witches are also able to wield certain magical powers that are not spells.

Lastly, witches are commonly divided into the arbitrary and subjective groupings of "bright" for the happy and helpful sorts and "dark" for the types that can and will actually turn you into a toad for giggles.

Got that added in there, as part of the Monsters, because they aren't pure humans with a lot of skill.

If any other monsterfolk want to build out their species feel free to add basic details in the link above, or message me if you want me to add it in.

Hunters feel free to add specifics to how your monster huntering works, if its not already captured here, or IM me: http://wiki.rpol.net/?edit=74125/hunters_of_moorhaven

Jason, if you want to IM me with or without the GM, I can also add in some generalized "How much does the government know" tidbits in the general setting info page.

OK, the first version of Anthony Arkham is uploaded for the GM. One small magical array of three spells, all really potent and broad, just how I like it.

Not a combat character. :-)
