0000 - Introduction & Expectations

Hi, Everyone,

This game will serve for some of you as an introduction to Classic Traveller.  As such, be aware there may (er, almost certainly will) be some differences in how we play in the play-by-post paradise that is RPoL.  Don't be too surprised if we hack and slash our way through the rules for combat, and for other game-related activities, to get to something that works well for us here.

I'll handle posting how the mechanics are going to work in another topic, don't worry.  It will be helpful if you have your own copy of the Little Black Books (which are what I'm using), or The Traveller Book  Those of you following along in your copies of Mongoose Traveller  will notice some differences, but there shouldn't be anything too shocking.

I don't expect you to know much about the setting (that of the late Third Empire period).  I will be posting links to online resources for those who do not have access to the books, but knowing everything about the setting will not be strictly necessary.

So, what do I expect from players?

Do tell me what books you have and intend to use in this game.  Tell me if you do not have any books.

Create characters you really want to play.  Play them well.  Express yourself concerning what sort of adventures you might want to have.

Ask for help if you need it, be it for understanding the game mechanics, or for any other reason.

Communicate honestly with me and with your fellow Travellers in this game.  Respect each other (when speaking OOC, anyway).

This next bit I've had to sit and think long and hard about. I hate making hard and fast rules, but, in this case, it's necessary.
Here's my decisions regarding Pronouns, Political Correctness, and the like:

Please do not attempt to inject "real-world" politics or political correctness into this game.  That generally leads to bad outcomes and hard feelings between players.  (It has already happened here once, and that's the only reason I mention it.)  Doing this will result in your being counseled privately the first time, and being summarily ejected from the game the second.  Don't try me on this.

As to the subject of pronouns, genders, and the like:  I'm an old-school kind of guy.  English is spoken here.  English has three syntactical genders:  masculine, feminine, and neuter.  English pronouns legal for use in this game are given here.  Please don't present any new made-up ones for acceptance - it won't happen.

Pick whatever suits you as a player, (and feel free to alternate if you're gender-fluid) but don't expect others to abide by your dictates, and please don't get all offended and stir up a fuss in-game if someone fails to call you by your favorite pronoun OOC.  Doing this will also result in your being counseled privately the first time, and being summarily ejected from the game the second.  Don't try me on this, either.

I've lost otherwise great players to this kind of thing in the past, and I can't afford to tolerate it here again.

If you, as players, can live by these redes and treat each other with a modicum of civility and respect, all else will follow naturally.
