4100 - Adventure The First - Backgrounder

The date is Senday, 1085.211.  Not so long ago, the Fourth Frontier War was ended before orders from Core could catch up with the Imperial combatants.  With the signing of the Armistice after the Battle of the Two Suns, Minorb and Yres had suffered greatly and were still Amber Zones due to dangerous waste from the war still being present there.  A lot of Imperial archaeologists, historians, and other scientists were the only ones making regular expeditions to that area, and only then with His Majesty's kind permission.

The Imperial media was alight with praises for the gallant captain and crew of HMISS Allamu, how they had held the line for several hours defending the van, and were finally lost with all hands aboard.  Shouts of "Remember the Allamu!" were still a rallying cry for those who believed further war with the Outworld Coalition was inevitable.

The memory of this short-lived war was still fresh in the minds of most Imperial citizens, yet peace had returned for a brief while, and the engines of Imperial trade and commerce were once again being turned to the pursuit of less gruesome businesses than war.

In this era of relative peace there was yet conflict, but of the more subtle sorts:  the Zhodani, the Darrian, the Sword Worlds, and other forces all worked to further their causes at the expense of the Third Imperium, and their operatives still occasionally made incursions into Imperial space to gather information, foment discontent and insurrection, and generally make trouble for the Imperium wherever they could.

With the signing of the Armistice, and subsequent demobilization of forces, a good many older surplus military vessels were being stripped of their weapons and sold off to enterprising traders looking for ships on the cheap.  Some of these vessels were even being sold with weapons intact for use as Corsairs to interdict pirates, or so the rumors went.  Rumors and wild tales of deep space also spoke of ships left derelict in orbit around or aground on former battlefield worlds, laying dormant for the taking or for salvage.

It is in this tense but hopeful universe that young people looking for fortune's favor set forth to blaze a trail to adventure in the far future.
