In reply to Nameless One (msg # 33):

My suggestion is that you guys join forces. :)

In fact, there's a P.I. side to the team that would alone justify the presence of an autonomous agency. Beyond that, the presence of tech-inclined characters is also an interesting center for gameplay - a singer with a chrome arm, that's a sight to behold!

One quick note, by the way: since City Nouveau is indep, there's a LOT of heat to bring it back to the US - by force if necessary. It NEEDS meta-humans to protect itself and stay indep. That's a possible premise.

On the other hand, the advent of foreigners might hide spies. What sort of politics would sprawl from it? Investigators would be needed!

Also, the presence of an atlantean is pivotal to enhance diplomatic stances...

Anyone moving around the bohemian scene - artists, for example - would be quite important as well, since most of the tension's bound to happen within the shadows of the city...

Just to check, are we going to be thrown together by circumstance early on, or are we expected to make up our own investigative (or whatever) agency ahead of time and start out knowing each other? I like getting to know people IC, so I might play my PC joining in late or something if we do the second one.

I could see a hybrid working out, maybe, like if one of our PIs held a recruitment drive to start a new team :)

So, if I'm reading The Cast descriptions and OOC chat correctly, what we are looking at so far is:

AHAB            - Former child's doll turned monster hunter.
Buck.Davidson   - ???
Detective Flea  - Ultra-dense miniature private eye.
Dor'aan Miilou  - Psychic half Atlantean/half Argent with access to tech.
N4t3            - Indestructible Cyborg that can summon various weapons.
OakMaster       - ???
RandomKitty     - Tech-savvy telekinetic unconventional problem solver.
sbodmann        - Lounge singer with a chrome bionic arm and a hypnotic voice.
Silent Wayfarer - Amnesiac shapeshifter.
Stormshadow     - Ex-war pilot turned P.I. with a few electricity powers.

Lol, so I'm going to go baritone crooner in suit with a fedora because a monkey in a suit is just amusing. Likely going to go with a 'dire ape' so a big gorilla with four arms! Maybe I should play the double sax?

My concept is that an Argent scientist decided to construct the perfect being from the genetics up; strong physically, perfect physiology, telepathic demigog, and asthetically pristine.  I play the original draft, where he forgot to carry the cytosine and wound up with what he views as an unsightly, abstract failure.

Basic powers are telekinesis or telekinesis-based.

This is coming together nicely!

@Tarrakhash: 4 arms opens up lots of instrument possibilities. Maybe you play whatever is called for depending on the song. If you want to stick with battle suit, and you like monkey in a SUIT... :-)

@Silent Wayfarer: Want to join the band? If I made the piano player as a sidekick/minion, I was probably going to give him shapeshifting. I'm not sure why, but it just seems to fit nicely with the other stuff Tarrak and I have going on. Would be way better to get a real person behind that character though. So what do you say, wanna drop a few points into a musical skill and be our piano man?

Two tommy guns with trick bullets in a couple of violin cases? Four armed gorilla in a suit firing off two tommy guns at the same time is a pretty awesome image!

I'd be up for some shared HQ/minion stuff like that.

We might want to nail down our motivations and backstories a bit before we really load up. We might end up with a static HQ like our own Lounge, or maybe we'll end up more mobile.

So... we're making a living as a band. Is that it, or is it a cover for us to do something like infiltrate the Criminal Underground? Or are we morally gray and on the fringe of the Criminal Underground, really wanting to leave, but keep getting pulled back in? That latter has a nice tragic, noir feel to it. It would also give us a good reason to interact with the private detective characters.

If the band is just our living, then what are we doing adventure-wise? Good Samaritans who are living amongst the filth who feel compelled to help out? We travel around to the "club of the week" and help the mobster-abused-girlfriend or down-on-his-luck-dishwasher?

ok... I definitely have a really strong mob vibe in my head. I'm fine with that, but don't let me suck you into that if you want to go a different direction.

A different direction could be we're X-Men types trying to go around and find/rescue metas. Could be working for a private benefactor of some sort or maybe a government agency.

I'm small, but not really a dodge around and avoid attacks type. A straight up tank with high toughness and strength, able to leap around like a... (sigh) a flea. Rich, smart, with a tiny headquarters nobody but our other 6 inch heroine could enter (Until I equip it with Aetheric projectors that will shrink anyone entering...)

The Indefatigable is my ornithopter, able to flap through the skies or paddle through the water, with nice sensors and a couple other tricks.

Pretty much, yeah. If you want something to cover a larger base, take a look at jack-of-all-trades, an advantage that allows for a sort of umbrella-level for improv rolls (with tools, of course).

I'm checking Flea's sheet right now. :)

So, wealth question that I always get a different answer for.

If you take wealth, even at 1 or 2 ranks, how does it impact mundane equipment?

I can buy a cellphone...or even make one with a high enough technology skill but RAW states unless I buy the equipment points I dont have it. Which let's you have a millionaire without a cellphone....

If you have resources above 2 or 3, you probably can finance a good deal of more limited creations - a cellphone's perfectly acceptable in this scenario. Comms aren't exactly uncommon - just more limited than our cellphones, given the restrictions.

Welcome to City Nouveau, the Manhattan- sprawl of 1920's alt-earth. In this world, underwater nations, fabled cities, inhuman species and alien visitors are all true, all present and all willing to hold dominion upon our planet. In here, technology and arcane knowledge mingle, deeply influencing the events of recorded history after the advent of the Argent, an extraterrestrial species of great power and obscure intentions.

I went by this.  It was REALLY hard to think of celebrities from 1920 for my purposes; came up blank.

Am I doing hypnotic voice correctly?

Afflict (entranced, compelled, controlled)
- alternate save: will (+0)
- cumulative (+1)
- area: perception (+1)
=3pt/rank

Then the way it works is anyone who can hear me has to make a Dodge save to avert their ears, if they fail that then they make Will saves to avoid the effects? And failures ratchet them up the conditions?

Do I also have to make a successful attack roll, or is that concept covered by the Dodge save?

Typically, in my experience if you are under PL limits it means you're trying to do to much LOL..which we all do.

But you're talking about believable limits... you have a cyber arm and an enchanting voice. We can work somethings out to break the limits lol

Silverback can make you somethings to help? Throw a few devices on to get to caps?

What Silverback said.

Don't worry too much about being below limits. You're spreading yourself a bit, but you'll be fine as long as you have a good tradeoff. Give me some level examples for your character and I can tell you what reach does it have around the world, @ sbodmann.

@randomkitty, it'll be as combat-heavy as you make it. Part of the game is in measuring how far can you push things - and how far will an NPC push things towards his field of advantage, of course. A great deal of the game rellies on players manipulating circumstances and environments to their favor. So, if you feel that a ten-feet tall woman that twists iron bars and lifts cars for a living will be trouble, talk her out of violence - or talk her into violence towards your enemies. ;)

You guys control the game. I haven't posted much more for a reason. Everything will be built around you.

My hypotonic voice will be level 12 area affect afflict, so I'm probably ok on offense.

My combat stats are this right now [brackets are extra points I already threw  in without any good explanation]
Melee attack +0
Ranged attack +6
Dodge +8 [5]
Parry +8 [8]
Fortitude +4 [3]
Toughness +4/+6(roll) [3]

In reply to sbodmann (msg # 119):

I might suggest at least raising your saves up some.  You'll crumple pretty fast if you get hit with any sort of PL12 save. I think I know what you mean, though, about justifying things. it's weird if your lounge singer is leaping around dodging attacks like a ninja if you don't have a reason for it.

Maybe you have some wired reflexes along with the arm that make you quicker? A sonic force field?

The world was dark, in a last ditch they hoped that an experiment could travel back and stop the events that led to the end. A terrible MAD moment with a nuclear winter. She was the subject and was supposed to go back. Instead, though, the experiment met the end of the world and the only dimension she cannot go back to is her home dimension. It is destroyed. Completely. Likely gone forever, or distilled into the gem that is the greatest and most horrible piece of technological advancement that her world could create.

My knee-jerk answer is 'stab it with fire,' which does not specifically point me towards either option in particular.  I'm happy with any grouping possibility.  I'm similarly flexible about starting alone or (the horror) starting groups of 3-4 instead of pairs.

Cool, since we have preferences on both sides of the line, I'll go out on instincts and duo you guys out. If anyone wanna join up to form trios - as in Amy and Silverback's band, let me know.

This will allow for a better character development until we get to the core meetings. ;)

In the meantime, feel free to roleplay a bit at the Harvest, our meta-human club of choice.

Also, if anyone haven't done it yet, please, place a sheet copy at the sheet box for your character, as well as a BG copy at the corresponding box - I'm gonna need quick references as I study your characters.

and before I forget...

Welcome to City Nouveau.

Re: OOC - Atlantis Noire

In reply to S.On.N.Y. (msg # 190):

Ok, just to clarify:

1) The club can be outside time, future, past, paralel. It really depends on your personal considerations.

2) I have teamed you guys up directly without pointing out how for two central reasons. The first one is that if I go back too far and start the threads with you guys individually placed, it would make them way too long. Consider that the objective is for you to play together: if I go back too much, we'll take too long to reach such a point. Of course, I can easily correct that, if you guys choose to and are willing to spend the extra time. ;) Secondly, I have left it to you to decide how you meet up. It could be the first time you have paired up. It might be that you just found yourselves facing each other in this very scene.

Again, I'm open to any suggestions, recommendations and ideas! So, if you want me to change it, I'll gladly do it! I have plenty of ideas for your characters..They are, by far, the most instigating I've seen in a long time, and I fell in love for each and everyone of them (truth be told, I'd love to read a comic or a book featuring these characters).

3) I know some of these solutions are a little 'gamey', but the medium brings out some limitations that we have to work out. Once more, please, let me know your thoughts and I'll gladly arrange things to your liking. After all the work you guys put on your characters, I really want everyone to enjoy themselves! :)

4) I haven't had the chance to say this until now (work has consumed so much time these days) but thank you so much for taking an interest in this project, and thank you so much for the effort you've put into it! I'm happy to meet you guys and be able to exchange ideas and experiences with you.

5) I get talkative when I have the time. I'll stop now. Please, let me know your thoughts and opinions!

EDIT: Sorry, guys, one more thing. Remember that you have hero points. Anything not settled in stone can be changed. Prologues are bendable as well: edit my thoughts, retcon me, do what you need to do to flash out your characters and establish them! It's THEIR story, and we're telling it together!

Later!

Ok, two things: 1) You'll get a point for every complication I put in. It's not like pebbles, but it ain't that rare either! B) Don't worry too much about the character's position, just think about what you would do (and remember you can jump in front of him, push him away or any other thing, really, so you might not even need a hero point to begin with). ;)

Also, @everyone, let me know how's the pacing! I'm gonna bring everyone together in the next few days!

I kind of see Isadora as that exactly. She can't die, so everything is about consequences and morality. And hers is...complicated. But, I kind of like stripping the fear of character death because it really distills the true nature of superhero stories which is about right and wrong and where those lines are. Like, was Zatanna wrong when she stripped someone's mind or was it the right thing to do?

Oh, guys, Silver has posted a qiestion via PM, and I think it might be of interest to everyone. As far as initiative goes, I'm mostly concerned with ypur order against the enemies'. So, I only need to know if they'll act before or after you. You can post your actions regardless of your order. I'll wait till you do so to respond, ok? Even if the enemies or npcs go first, I'll still wait till you post, to keep some order and make updates easier.

Also, if you guys get stuck for any reason, let me know, and I'll help! If the game isn't as instigating as you expected, also let me know. I love to adapt to my players ideas and hopes for the story! I'm mainly saying this because of a little stalling moment we're having. Please, let us discuss anything, ok? It can only make the game bwtter!

Hey, guys!
Sorry for the radio silence.

This time it's something related to the game. I have this little problem to solve, and I need to consult with all of you - new players included.

We've had a few of our friends recently leaving our ranks - due to life problems, stuff like this. Ever since, I've been busting my brains to maintain the threads - unnecessary to say, with little results.

That being said, I'd like to propose a reset. It's the best solution I can conceive right now. The reset would involve individual threads to each of you, in order to explore your backgrounds properly till I can bring everyone together.

There are three things I need to know, though:

1) Who's staying in the game? Please, shout out in this thread.
2) Are you guys ok with it? If not, what's your opinion on the resetting matter?
3)What's your intended posting rate?

For now, I guess that's it. Sorry for having to bring the topic just like this, but I'd rather just blurt it out and settle things straight.

Later!

1. I'm up for continuing, sure.

2. I don't love resets, mostly because I easily get my wires crossed about what my character should and shouldn't know. Still, I'll go along with it since we're still very early in the game.

3. I can be variable due to health issues... Usually I'm on daily, but there are times that I'm not up for posting for a few days at a time, unless it's something really quick like a combat post just to keep things moving.

I'm a here, and I'd prefer to avoid a reset, I'd rather spring a little ahead. Basically hand wave whatever you had planned and narrate it so we don't loose the things we have then fade out the people who have left and start new threads.

1 every 2 days is about right for me, sometimes much more if I'm off and sometimes it's once ever 3 days.

Hmm, let's see... Of four MnM games that are active and seeking players:

-One is this one, lol.

-One is just starting out, but run by a person that seems to make a hobby of starting games that go nowhere. He has 39 games and it looks like only one of them is active.

-One is actually active and fairly new, but... never posted a game ad? That's odd, first time I'm seeing it even though it doesn't say it's a private game. The setting seems pretty specific, but maybe characters could be retrofitted to it.

-One is a blender school game, so it might accommodate younger versions of the PCs here, but it's been active so long that I'd imagine anyone looking for an MnM game has already tried it.

Not great prospects!
