Are we waiting for the new guys to settle in, or we can still go through the action?

Re: OOC Thread
In reply to Ray Lyrefingers (msg # 350):

start at level 1. I don't know how familiar you are with D&D so I'm going to explain the stat system now. Each stat affects an array of different actions, and reactions through the modifier it adds to rolls. The way you calculate the modifier is based on how far above or below 10 your stat is. Each 2 points above 10 adds 1 point to the modifier.
This brings us to your hp. Your starting hp as a bard is 8 + your constitution modifier. Let's say you used one of those 14s as your constitution stat. That would put you 4 points above 10, which means your constitution modifier would be 2. So 8 + 2 would be 10 starting hp.
lets say you used the 3 for your constitution. the number rounds down, making it effectively a 2. That means you would be 8 points below 10, making the modifier -4. If you then applied that to your hp, it would be 8-4 = 4 so you would have 4 hp.

Hope that helps. For what it's worth, I recommend using one of the 18s for charisma, and the other for dexterity, which will help you avoid damage. Dump the 3 into wisdom. I'm not going to enforce any kind of stat-based roleplaying on you, and it's probably the least bad option under the circumstances. (anyone else is welcome to chime in here, I'm not a rules lawyer, and not a bard player, so there might be a legitimate reason not to take crappy wisdom as a bard that I don't know about)

Also, I can't see myself moving to the spot I wanted, are we still in the previous round, or just my movement wasn't updated yet?

Oh, come on Trai retreated already... I'm in the middle of the camp all alone.

In reply to Mark (msg # 356):

my bad, didn't see the tile number in there, updating now. Also, for what it's worth, the archers didn't notice your attack because the damage was so low,and thus they ran off toward paladria's scream.
Technically, the enemy hasn't noticed you yet and isn't engaged. Since initiative hasn't come into play yet, you can retreat if you want. Bear with me as far as things being a bit chaotic, the two of them ditching at the same time has me scrambling to keep everything balanced, and the story cohesive.

If Perception is a big thing, I'd rather dump Strength stat instead of Wisdom. Is that alright GM, or are there mechanics that rely on strength? I also would be using my rapier and other finesse weapons.

Also, what's the sitch on starting equipment? If it's already in a thread, please direct me to it. Also, if starting equipment is allowed, can I sell some unwanted stuff to buy other needed mundane weapons?

That's fine, it's up to you. I was just suggesting what I would do with the stats, but if you're using a finesse weapon, it shouldn't hurt you too much.

In reply to Westen (msg # 357):

Retreating would be a logical option, as would having a short rest earlier, but I'm not sure if I want to be that smart (I will roll an intelligence check), but from story cohesion point of view, we already lost our element of surprise, as well as a lot of time. The siege must be going on for like 10 minutes, right?

12:19, Today: Mark rolled 5 using 1d20-2.  Intelligence.

In reply to Ray Lyrefingers (msg # 358):

so each character starts with a background, and that background has a set of starting gear, plus a set amount of money. If you don't want the gear from the background you choose, you can trade it for the equivalent amount of money at character creation, and any money you have on hand can be traded for whatever items you want to start with.

here's a list of items:
https://roll20.net/compendium/...Items%20List#content

and here's a list of backgrounds to choose from:
https://5e.tools/backgrounds.html#acolyte_phb

pick whichever one best suits your character.

mark smash

I think right now is probably your best bet. A lot of the guards got pulled away by Paladria's scream, they haven't really noticed you yet, and a bunch got killed by the fire. Hard to say what the situation will be in a few game hours.

I made a new thread called "newbie help thread" I'd appreciate if we continued this conversation there to avoid overloading the ooc thread :)

Feel free to track her down after the fight. I had something planned to tie up her and sudri's characters anyway in case people chased after them for some reason.

Re: OOC Thread
Hello hello!  I've already started posting a bit in the newbie thread, but here I am for proper introductions.  I'll be playing your friendly neighborhood Gnomish Sorcerer who really should not be out adventuring where the world is big, scary, and she may very well be snatched up by a particularly enterprising owl.

I've already got my bio page set up for anyone who'd like a look and am currently getting my character sheet worked out with the DM, so hopefully I can hop into things sooner than later.

Re: OOC Thread
The addition of a gnome made me think how stupid we look like now, so I made a size comparison between Vi, Trai and Mark, added a kobold, the smallest humanoid I could think of.

I'm actually 180 cm high, so pretty average for a human (well, XX. century human), and the top of my head would be about the shoulder or Trai. Just so you note, Trai is actually not that high, but Vi is that short.

So we could do something like this for Vi.

So who wants to wear it Mark or Trai?

With so much baggage, you would need to have the strength of an ogre, especially if their trying to carry a gnome with so much bags.

Re: OOC Thread
The encumbrance rules in 5e are extremely favorable, if you even use them.  As long as you can count the gnome as nothing more than weight carrying it is easy.
