Finishing up work for the week and will resolve the next combat round likely later this afternoon after I get home.

Only people missing posts from are Sig and Wulf. If no posts, then I will presume no action.

Re: LetÂ’s Discuss (OOC Discussion)

The critical hit system is not the same as the typical D20 system, it triggers if your roll total is 10 more than the EDC, there is a chart for you to roll on depending on the type of attack you are using.

Re: LetÂ’s Discuss (OOC Discussion)

Here’s the rules for crits, in case you’re curious. I’m in another M&M game on rpol and our DM doesn’t use crits, they’re definitely a little OP, as well as the fact they would slow gameplay by require more rolls.

Critical Hits
Whenever a player-character’s Melee or Missile roll
exceeds the target’s EDC by 10 or more, the attack
is a critical hit. Critical hits represent exceptionally
well-aimed (or incredibly lucky) blows or shots.
Whenever a critical hit occurs, a new D20 roll must
be made on the appropriate table (see next page).
This rule only applies to player-characters’ attacks;
creatures and NPCs (no matter how powerful) can
never inflict critical hits. This restriction reflects the
fact that player-characters are the heroes of the
story and thus enjoy a greater degree of combat
fortune and dramatic stature.

Melee Critical Hits
1-4 = Stunned!
Opponent takes normal damage and is -2 to
attack and EDC next round.
5-8 = Dazed!
Opponent takes normal damage and is -4 to
attack and EDC next round.
9-12 = Knocked Down!
Opponent takes normal damage and is knocked
down and must spend a round getting back up.
Prone characters suffer a -4 penalty to EDC.
13-14 = Armor Strap Cut!
Opponent takes normal damage and loses a
randomly chosen piece of armor. If the opponent
wears no armor, roll an extra D6 for damage.
15-16 = Weapon/Shield Broken!
Opponent’s weapon is broken – unless he has a
shield, in which case the shield is rendered
useless. Opponent also takes normal damage. If
the opponent has no weapon (other than its
natural ones), roll an extra D6 for damage.
17-18 = Grievous Wound!
Roll an extra D6 for damage.
19 = Maimed!
Opponent takes 2 extra dice of damage and
loses a randomly chosen limb.
20 = Instant Kill!
Attacker beheads (or otherwise instantly kills) his
opponent (even if multiple-headed).

Missile Critical Hits
1-5 = Stunned!
Opponent takes normal damage and is -2 to
attack and EDC next round.
6-10 = Dazed!
Opponent takes normal damage and is -4 to
attack and EDC next round.
11-16 = Knocked Down!
Opponent takes normal damage and is knocked
down and must spend a round getting back up.
Prone characters are at -4 EDC in melee.
17-18 = Grievous Wound!
Roll an extra D6 for damage.
19 = Hit Vital Spot!
Opponent takes 2 extra dice of damage and
loses a randomly chosen limb.
20 = Instant Kill!
Target shot between the eyes, through the heart
or other instantly fatal wound.

Re: LetÂ’s Discuss (OOC Discussion)

Hell I love the critical hits, I also believe they could slow it down unless the DM/GM rolled all of the extra dice himself for the crit. This wouldnt slow it up and adds flavor. Plus could add to our individual characters reputation of names. Beheaded, or slayer or anything for us to use.

Re: LetÂ’s Discuss (OOC Discussion)

I haven't seen them to be over powered at all, mostly useless so far except for one knockdown result that was kinda handy, and there shouldn't be any slow down of game, you just do all the rolls at once and put them in the post together.

Re: LetÂ’s Discuss (OOC Discussion)

I would disagree with critical hits being mostly useless.

In any case, critical hits do apply in this game. Obviously they will likely not come up all that often unless/until you have a high melee/missile modifier and you are fighting an enemy with a comparatively low EDC. Garnog is getting some here in combat because he hits like a truck.

If you suspect that you may have rolled a critical hit go ahead and make that roll and put it into your post. Worst case result is that you did not roll a critical in which case it would not apply.

Aros, in your case rolling at 28 to hit is going to be a critical hit, so if you want to roll a critical hit effect and put that into your post, feel free to do so.

edit Brinjar, your higher of the two rolls (the 26) is also going to be a critical, so you can also roll a critical hit effect too.

Why wacky?   This is the sort of game where you pretty much need it.  At this level, anyway.

Spells cost points --   the last I cast uses all but 1 of my points.    I won't be casting healing, or much else, till I regain points.

Re: LetÂ’s Discuss (OOC Discussion)

Had a busy week with work - apologies!

Majority of people have posted, so I am going to update the next game round. I think a few things to keep in mind:

1. The last few rounds if somebody didn't post their intentions then I assumed they took no action once it came time to resolve the round. I think going forward for combat rounds in order to keep things moving just a little bit quicker for game updates I will NPC an action for a PC once we have a majority of players who have posted their intentions. It may not be the action you want though so just keep that in mind.

For example, I posted the last round on Saturday 8th and four of you posted your intentions shortly after that, with the fifth posting the next day on Sunday 9th, so I could have gotten in another combat round before the work week started since it was a clear majority at that point.

2. Per a suggestion from Garnog's player, for this upcoming round I am going to try out a mechanic wherein the enemy characters will complete their movements both in the current round and the next round, so you will have a good idea as to who you can target.

Then in the subsequent rounds for this combat, the enemies will have future movements already out.

There is some difficulty in trying this as the combat order is supposed to be missile attacks before movement and melee, so bear with me as we try this out. An example of the problem right now is one of the harpies will be moving towards Brinjar, though he is entitled to a missile attack before she actually reaches him, so this might be problematic in future round postings if say Enemy A reaches Player A in advance, even though he or she may have been able to strike him from afar.

on phone rolled 24 to hit and 2 damage, Rolled for critical getting maimed severing a limb and doing additional 10 damage

This will be enough to kill the harpy so no need for further combat posts, will do a game update a bit later tonight

Re: LetÂ’s Discuss (OOC Discussion)

You're the GM, so of course it's your rules. But I've found that eschewing things like location and order of actions allows the game run much smoother. If people want to make an attack, they can. Period. Saves us from having to ask questions about who can get an attack in and where.

Re: LetÂ’s Discuss (OOC Discussion)

Glory/Wisdom/Experience from Combat with Harpies

For fighting the pack of harpies off successfully and facing a unique foe for the first time in their adventure, everybody gains 100 points of either glory/wisdom/experience regardless of their class.

Warrior classes (Aros, Garnog, Sigfrodr) divvy up the glory points between themselves earned for vanquishing foes in battle, and each take 420 additional glory.

For our magicians (Askatla and Wulf) and our specialist (Brinjar) have no fear, there will be opportunity for you to gain additional Wisdom/Experience points as we continue on in the adventure.

Do they get wisdom for doing magician appropriate things in combat, like Wulf's well timed healing?  Or otherwise useful actions with their available magical resources?

Yeah some of it is MM discretion based on what happens in-game that the magician classes may do, but there are some monsters who in the manual award either a small or large wisdom point value for the magicians vs. glory points that the warriors divide up.

Re: LetÂ’s Discuss (OOC Discussion)

It seems unlikely that wisdom will keep up with glory, or even be close, if it just comes from killing.
