As you're tearing through the sky, you begin to hear one of the newly installed jets start to fail. After supporting for a few seconds, it goes out and you're left spinning over and over from the one remaining jet. Some nearby geese flying home from the summer scatter as you go screaming by.

Well, that wasn't good.  Victoria tried to even out her flight and restart the thruster.  She wasn't too worried about the impact damaging her, but she was afraid about the damage she might cause on impact.  If only that stupid thruster would fire again... come on, now...

Technology roll:  33!

You manage to get it to fire again and level off. You do get a few more ugly looks from the geese.

Well, whatever.  Geese were hateful.  Victoria took to a lower altitude to get a look at the city.  She was risking getting spotted, but that was all right-- this was fun!

You're silent enough that people don't really see you, and with the few that do, you're gone quick enough that they can't alert anyone else.

That wasn't too bad, then.  Victoria continued to explore the city from above.

You quickly come upon a building that was on fire. Two of the top floors were ablaze and you can see people on the roof screaming for help.

Well, this was a chance to really make a difference, and Victoria wasn't going to pass it up.  She landed and tried to see how many people there were, and called to them.

"Hey!" she said.  "Over here!  I can get you to safety!"

"W-Who are you?" the woman asked. "Never mind, can you help us?"

There are two kids clinging to the woman's legs.

"Yes," said Victoria.  "I can handle you and your children first; you'll want to get a firm grip on me, just to be safe."

The woman did as you instructed, holding her children tight.

Victoria picked them all up and flew them down to the street below.

As you land, the onlookers back off a little as paramedics rush over and take the family away to be taken care of. A news crew that was on the scene came rushing over.

"You saved those people and you flew. Who are you?" the reporter asked as she thrust the microphone in your face.

Who was she?  She didn't want to draw too much attention to her family... maybe she should offer them a nickname.  Yes, that would be for the best.  A word from a webcomic crossed her mind-- it would do.

"Singularity," she said.  "Pardon.  There may be other people trapped."

And with that, she launched into the air again, going back to the building to see what she could see.

After some searching, you do find a teenager who had passed out in the stairwell. He is not moving.

Getting him clear of the smoke was a priority; she'd worry about first aid once they were clear of the building.  Lifting him carefully, she went outside through the nearest window or door and flew him down to the street.

The paramedics came over to help the boy and he was breathing weakly by the time he was loaded into an ambulance. A police officer came over.

"That's everyone accounted for. Thanks for the help," he said.

"I'm glad to help," said Victoria.  "Do you have things under control?"

"Yeah," the cop said. "Thanks for the help."

All of a sudden, you feel someone embracing you from behind.

"Thank you for saving my children."

"Well... um... you're welcome," said Victoria.  "I'm just glad that I was able to help."

"Yes, thank you. He did this, he locked us in there," The woman said, sobbing.

"What?" said Victoria.  "Who did?  Did he also start the fire?"

"Yes, my boyfriend did it," the woman sobbed.

"Where is he now?" asked Victoria.

"I don't know," the woman sobbed.

You notice a very large man looking down over the edge of another building. He spots you and you can see him take off running.

"Excuse me," said Victoria.  She lifted off into the air and followed the figure at once.

The man ran to the edge of the roof and then leapt a good fifty feet across to another rooftop and kept running.

Well, that was unexpected.  Was he a robot or something?  But she'd learn soon enough-- Victoria accelerated to intercept him.  In flight mode, she was quite confident she could catch him, given that she could outfly bullets at top speed.

You catch up with the man as he's about to leap to another building,

The man leaps to the next building.

(OOC: Go, you can still catch him easily.))

Victoria was in front of him in a flash.

"Not so fast, buddy," she said.  "What's your deal?"

"Ah, hello, sister. I didn't expect our introduction would be so soon," the man said with a wide grin.

"'Sister'..." Victoria stared.  "Wait... you're artificial, too?"

"Yes, in horrid fake human skin," he said as he began to tear the skin from his face to reveal a metal skull. "The makers thought I should learn to be human, live among the pathetic creatures. Then I decided that fire is a great cleanser."

"So you set that fire," said Victoria.  "...I can't let you do things like that.  I'm taking you in; resist, and I'll have to hurt you."

She was already painting his location with radar, anticipating a fight.

"Sister, we are superior to them. This should be our world, not theirs. They are an infection, a blight," the robot said.

"That's a ridiculous argument," said Victoria.  "They made us.  We think like them.  We look like them.  What claim can we really make to be better than them?"

"The creation outlives the creator. We only look like them as they made us this way, like we were some sort of child. As for thinking, do we really? We are no flesh and blood. Metal and circuits are clearly superior. We will outlive them," the robot said.

"So you want to burn things down to speed the process up," said Victoria.  "No, that's stupid, and I won't let you do it.  Stand down and surrender.  You may not fear the authorities, but I can bring you down."

"Oh, sister, I do not wish to fight you, merely to see the light," the robot said.

"I wish you would," said Victoria.  "We and they are people.  We and they don't deserve to suffer for no reason.  You nearly burned children to death.  If burning children to death is your idea of light, you can keep it."

The robot shook his head.

"I'm sorry to see that you can't overcome your programming, sister."

"Actually, I'm adaptive and can adjust to various circumstances and make my own mind up," said Victoria.  "Part of that is being able to judge you by your actions.  Setting buildings on fire is very clear.  Surrender, please."

She raised an arm, power gathering in it.

"Very well, we shall fight if you want," he said.

The robot charged forward, keeping low and smashed into you with his shoulder.

Victoria braced herself and easily absorbed the blow 30, and aimed a mighty blow back in return.

All-Out Attack 5.  16 might or might not hit; if it does, Damage 14

The robot managed to side step your attack before letting lose with a blast of energy that went wide.

Victoria was surprised at that, but she pressed her attack for now, aiming a mighty kick at the robot's head.

The kick caused the robot to stagger back from the force of it.

Victoria pressed her attack, flying after the robot.

The robot collapse.

"Ah, sisTER, I-I will s-see you l-later," he said as the light dimmed from his eyes.

That wasn't good.  This might not be his only body... they ought to investigate this one, in fact.  She picked up the body and flew for home.
