The Sentinel
GM, 1 post Friend Enemy Sun 29 Sep 2019 at 03:28 | What this game is about. This game is a makeshift version of the anime "Tower of druaga". In this game you will be a group of adventures that takes on the infamous sentinel tower where power and riches await you. This will be a full game were you level from level 1 to level 20 and the levels are dependant on the floors no xp. The magic item selection will be hidden and progression will be found by intelligence as a group no one will get special treatment. I will forewarn that those who enter the tower are followed by their failures and lost options and that this shadow may be the hardest thing for you to fight.
To sum this up you will be a character that levels up as you ascend this tower were your actions can reward or hamper your progression. Death can happen but may not be permanent.
Sincerely,
The GM

GM, 2 posts Friend Enemy Thu 5 Dec 2019 at 05:36 | What this game is about. In reply to The Sentinel (msg # 1):
To begin this adventure and to stir the creative flow, you have the choice to control 1 to 3 character. But you must make 2 to 6 characters. I will allow any and all combinations but please let me know what source you are getting the ability and feats from so I may research.
Your characters connection to the tower will be a deep and personal reason, you may keep it initial hidden from me the DM but each character must have a backstory and reason for attempting the TOWER. In the lore this tower is only open once every 7 years and all who attempt the TOWER have never returned. From the outside the tower appears to be ten stories tall, and outside of the flow of time. The attempts to scale the tower from the outside have been meet with mix results from king barthabars larger ladder collapsing with him halfway up it. To the stupifing of the great wizard flymar who attempted to fly up the tower.
This will be a battle heavy exploration poor quest, each floor of the tower will contain a story which will arc into a tale across all levels. These floors will contain everything you can think of so come prepared for the tower may not provide what you need.

What are the parameters of character creation? That will likely alter a few things, though I'm inclined more towards 3.
I hear plenty of reasons to stay away from the Tower. Any common myths for reasons to climb?

player, 2 posts Thu 5 Dec 2019 at 16:39 | What this game is about. Also, I understand if you might not want to answer this, but are the extra characters I'm making to be run by you, or used as a rival team?
Either way, I'll build solid characters. But how I build a 6 person party is radically different from how I'd build two 3 person parties.

GM, 3 posts Friend Enemy Fri 6 Dec 2019 at 04:42 | What this game is about. The reason for a person to enter the the tower is more at liberty for you to decide. There are pores that say great treasure and magic are in the tower also religions that worship and condone the tower. You can have a family member be in the tower and the pc wants to find them.
As for the 6 characters I decided to scratch the rival team plan instead build you 3 character team

player, 3 posts Fri 6 Dec 2019 at 16:57 | What this game is about. So I'm thinking my team will be:
Sierra: A lawful good female ranger, Sierra has come to the Tower because she spent the last five years traveling with her father, attempting to prove his innocence of a crime. He'd been accused by the Fae of killing fairies as a young adventurer, and the Fae sentenced him to go to the Tower as his punishment. While the Fae were quick to pass judgment, they were either unable to or uninterested in forcing the sentence. Less than a month ago, Sierra's father died, and it was only afterwards that she was able to piece together his journals and notes to realize he was not innocent. So now, she goes to the Tower in his stead, as an atonement both for his actions and her own.
Theme: Prayer of the Refugee (Rise Against)
Role: Tank, Striker, Trapper. Plans to use sword and board, boosting nearby ally AC. Take Lunge around level 6, and Shield Master at 12 to become a full two-weapon fighter.
Tyksis: A true neutral male sorcerer (or psychic, if that class is allowed), Tyksis has come to the Tower because the Angel told him to. The Angel is visible only to Tyksis, who has been targeted by some churches due to the sacrilege of claiming a divine being is with him at all times. Tyksis doesn't fully understand the Angel, but obeys her unquestioningly. She shows him other worlds, and sometimes Tyksis demonstrates confusion regarding what world he's in. But the Angel has brought him to this place, here and now, and he will follow.
Theme: Upside Down (Paloma Faith)
Role: Buffer, Blaster. Focus on long-lasting enhancements for allies and self.
Sol: A chaotic good male cleric, Sol was once the priest of a hidden community of worshippers. The Faith was once much stronger, spread across the land, but over many years, it has been nearly extinguished. Few can handle the truth that life is transient, and death is just one part of an unending cycle, as full of hope as a new birth. Due to events in Sol's personal life, he has given up on this particular cycle. While commiting suicide is still not approved of in the Faith, he has come here as a proxy. Either he will climb the Tower, and fix all that he has destroyed, or (much more likely) he'll die. Either way, the problem is solved.
Theme: I Wanna Get Better (Bleachers)
Role: Healer, Scholar.
I'll just need to know how you want to handle ability scores and any other house rules, then I'll start building them out.

GM, 4 posts Friend Enemy Sat 7 Dec 2019 at 06:01 | What this game is about.Let's do a 25 point buy for ability. Pysicic is allowed and the only key house rule that spans the whole game is two things
One your level is locked to the floor of the tower you are on (except the first floor it is kinda a training floor) 2nd level equals the second floor 5th floor equals the 5th level you will level up and down through the campaign.
2: you magic item will have 5 lvs the item will be game breaking but limiting, you level the item buy key things hidden In the game which could be equally but not limited to do finding a power, chowing the right action, impressing the dm. Choose how to use the item well and remember the rule of cool is in full effect.
Some levels will have new rules that will be discussed as we hit them

player, 4 posts Sat 7 Dec 2019 at 16:43 | What this game is about.Sounds doable. I'd never looked too close at the psychic until I was checking the psychic bloodline for sorc. It turns out psychic is the best of both worlds of psionics and magic. Nothing beats the flavor of psionic powers and feats for storytelling, but unless you use certain game-breaking rules, it's flat-out weaker than magic. This allows for some of the feel without the loss of power.
Would you be willing to open up the character sheet so I can build them on the site?
GM Menu > Edit Character Sheets > Highlighted text at bottom "character sheets are editable" > All ON or Yes for Tyksis.

player, 5 posts Sat 7 Dec 2019 at 17:17 | What this game is about.Question about favored class bonuses. There are no racial options listed for psychic online (which is probably an error, as there are no archetypes listed, either). For every other spontaneous casting class, humans (or half humans) can gain one additional spell known, up to the second-highest level they know. Would that be acceptable to you?

player, 8 posts Tue 10 Dec 2019 at 17:08 | What this game is about.Blerg. I like the idea of the Psychic's undercasting; it's a super cool way to build a theme. But there are problems building one for so small a group - primarily lack of traditional defensive/utility buffs for allies, and a lack of multi-target or burst spells, which is a big issue when we run into swarms. I'll likely rebuild as an arcanist, since a traditional sorcerer would lack the Knowledge skills/Int focus, which would leave the party lacking that.

GM, 7 posts Friend Enemy Fri 13 Dec 2019 at 14:48 | What this game is about.I'll look into what is happening with the character sheet as for gear. I believe these characters would go in with the plan to survive a long time not knowing when or were their next meal would be, therefore I believe 1000 gold each should get you outfitted for a long treach.

player, 32 posts I think I like living upside down Sat 15 Feb 2020 at 16:26 | What this game is about.Just a heads up, Spell Specialization is an AMAZING feat. I didn't take it on Tyksis originally, because the feat did something way less impressive in previous editions and I wasn't aware it had changed.
Anyway, I highly recommend you pick it up for at least one caster in your Kingmaker game. Requires Spell Focus of a school, then when you get Specialization, your caster level is treated as 2 higher for one spell of that school. In addition, you can reselect what spell is specialized each level. Makes a high difference, especially at lower levels. Tyksis could be dealing 3d6 damage with Mind Thrust. ;~;
