The Blight
GM, 10 posts I am nothingness. Sun 6 Oct 2019 at 20:52 | Character CreationBefore we get started let's talk some basics. FATE works a little differently than most games if you aren't familiar with the rules. Most games have a huge system of stats and FATE just doesn't have this.
As a matter of fact you can break everything up into three or four categories.
1. Aspects
2. Skills
3. Stunts
4. Refresh
We aren't going to focus on all of these as of right now but I want you to be aware of them. For those people who are more skilled with FATE feel free to skip this primer.
When a hero rolls they roll 4 FATE dice (remind to configure the dice roller). These dice will show a blank, plus or minus depending on what it lands on.
Your skill + dice results against difficulty gives you your total result.
Generally the higher a skill the more chance that you have to succeed but not always.
If you can do the math your dice can roll from -4 all the way to +4 results.
Aspects are generally parts of your character that have no number but rather just a phrase. An example would be something like "Beat Cop" or "Wondering Priest" are just some common examples but they can also be things like "Hard-boiled detective with drinking habit".
A good aspect should include both positive and negative traits. These will allow you to gain REFRESH throughout the adventure. These refresh will give you the ability to do things like change the story, gain bonuses and activate stunts.
You also have an aspect that is typically called trouble. These aspects generally get you in more trouble as the story continues. Sometimes they can be used for good things but this is very rare.
Trouble is often called by a GM and you gain a FATE point a result but it can also be called by another character who then trades the FATE point from their points with that person.

GM, 11 posts I am nothingness. Sun 6 Oct 2019 at 21:11 | SkillsI have been working on the skills list so that you can have an idea what the skills are. I did not go into details with these skills but I think most are self explanatory.
Here is the additional skill list. The ones that are marked are the new ones that I added to the list in order to expand the system a bit more.
Survival - This skills involves surviving in the wild but also includes things like tracking, cooking and finding shelter.
Academics - This a skill that involves things like science, math, reading, etc. This is general skills when it comes to basic academic knowledge.
Common Knowledge - This skill includes things like streetwise as well as just a basic knowledge roll for things that do not fall into a category.
Electronics - This skills includes things like fixing electronics, hacking, computers, and just general knowledge.
Medicine - This skills includes knowing how to use healing tools and medicines.
Occult - Occult is your knowledge of arcane or ancient things such as supernatural things, unknown languages, etc.
Performance - This skill is what you use when you are trying to perform in front of other people, others would called this acting unlike other social skills the purpose to entertain people.
Burglary is renamed Thievery
Fight is now broken into Melee & Brawl
So the combat skills are now: Melee, Brawl, & Shoot.

GM, 13 posts I am nothingness. Sun 6 Oct 2019 at 21:22 | Concept and TroubleBefore we dive into breaking down things like skills points and what not let's deal with some basics.
A concept (high concept) is just the idea behind who your character is. This is a specific phrase that sums you character up in a few words. I would recommend making this both positive and negative as stated above.
Trouble is something that your character has a weakness to akin to a flaw in other games.
Please pick these two as the reset of the skills, stunts and what not will be developed inside of the game. Most likely after the zero session.
So here are a few examples of Concepts and Troubles.
Concept: Hard-boiled Beat down Cop
Trouble: Addicted to the bottle
Concept: Knight of the Green Flag
Trouble: Sworn to the King's rules
Concept: Cursed werewolf hunter
Trouble: Hunted by a angry pack of Wolves
Keep in mind these are just examples and you Concept will likely change once you go through the Zero day story. So you will be given a chance to change them, these things are more fluid than in other games.

GM, 15 posts I am nothingness. Mon 7 Oct 2019 at 14:00 | Concept and TroubleExcellent, one more minor detail before we move on.
First pick a path as labeled in the rules section. I need to know the creature that attacked you in detail, (keep in mind for role playing characters may not know these details).
Path's will come into play later but feel free to mark this on your character sheet for ease of use. Remember the Divided are not open for picking at the current moment unless you feel you can create a good reason, almost all players will be dealing with corruption. The Divided deal with corruption in a completely different way that may rub some people the wrong way.
Also....pick an extra. Give them a name, one aspect or trouble just one, just for details sake this person will be in your life so have fun with them. Backgrounds are fine too and make sure to include your relationship to them.

Victor Kikkert
Aspect: Absent-minded professor
Clara's professor, Victor is a middle-aged Dutchman with the look of a nefarious cult leader - shaven head, goatee and all. Despite the looks, Victor's a friendly pun-loving man. He is prone to losing focus and forgetting things - likely an effect of some progressing disease. Clara and Victor met each other in the university, but over the years the relationship progressed beyond professional and into friendship.
As an addition, I also came up with this.
Knights of the Northern Glyph
A 'secret society' of sorts, the Knights of the Northern Glyph are an international group of book collectors, book lovers, linguists, and other similar geeks. The Knights are dedicated to collecting rare and obscure books, reading and discussing them, and, most importantly, bragging to each other. Clara inherited membership from her father, who earned it by smuggling a few fragments of Stalin's archives.

player, 8 posts Mon 7 Oct 2019 at 21:37 | Concept and TroublePath: The Decayed
Creature: The Waterwolf
A shambling, shifting peat bog mummy who is a living personification (or animalization) of the floods that plague (or plagued) the low lying costal areas of the Netherlands.
In some lights the Waterwolf could be the tanned remains of a drowned person who was entombed in peat after being partially eaten by marine life. At other times the Waterwolf looks like a mummified wolf, hunting human prey.
Like its echo in local myth the Waterwolf is “something to be feared”, “quick and relentless” and ” an enemy of man”. It can control water, and delights in stalking and drowning its prey before feasting.

Karl
player, 9 posts Tue 8 Oct 2019 at 15:36 | Concept and TroubleI've done two extras.
Jens, who is Karl's boss, and also Katya who is his aunt. There are a lot of potential directions to go with Jens, and he should be a useful storytelling tool if you want to use him. I've also written up Katya because she's very important to Karl, but she isn't currently in a position to offer much as an active member of the game's cast.
Name: Jens Van Dijk
Aspect: Ruthless local entrepreneur
Jens is the proprietor of the courier service Karl works for. As well as same day and same hour cycle deliveries the company also has a fleet of vans for long haul deliveries, and a narrow boat. The company has a number of corporate clients and accounts with local business. There are also packages that need to be delivered to customers on street corners or in cafes that aren't entered into the books, and that the employees know not to ask questions about.
Relationship: Employer
Name: Katya Shovkhalov
Trouble: Brain full of demons
Karl's aunt Katya raised him after his parents died when he was four. She was not prepared to adopt a child, and their life together was anything but ordinary. Following a recent relapse that coincided with a flare up of her mental health issues Katya was admitted to a hospital in the Netherlands, where she is currently being held against her will as she is believed to be a danger to herself.
Relationship: Aunt/primary caregiver

Whatever the traveller did to Clara - it left a heavy mark. The world is not what it used to be. Time stutters. Space contracts and expands like an elastic band. Life gets hard. But Clara goes on.

xue xinlun
player, 2 posts Wed 16 Oct 2019 at 15:22 | Concept and TroubleName: Zaid Rotterdam
Aspect: Wants Everyone to Have a Good Time (Maybe a Little Too Much Though)
This is a friend that xue xinlun has made in his time in Amsterdam. Zaid is a tall, cute dutchman who enjoys bringing people out of their shells -- including the nerdy xue xinlun. Zaid sees himself as a good natured corrupter, and as a big time extrovert he likes making new and different friends. He also gets the sense that xue xinlun might be gay, and so has been sort of trying to get him to go with him to gay clubs and whatnot...Zaid himself isn't gay but is down. The downside to this has been that he doesn't know that scene very well, so maybe he's showing Zaid to some "blighted" places...
Name: 薛松瑞 xuē sōngruì
Aspect: 打是亲,骂是爱 meaning "spanking means care, scolding means love" or roughly that abusing your child (especially in education) is the way to ensure they get ahead
This is xue xinlun's father. While he pushed xue xinlun hard and is proud of his son's PhD in engineer, he himself is a successful artist of traditional art in China. A savvy intellect who has ridden the various tides in Chinese development, he's well connected and wants a son deserving of their family's privilege. He feels very frustrated by his son, who he sees as on the cusp of enjoying the fruits of a lifetime of labor. "If only he could just give it another couple of years...", he thinks. He isn't great at showing it, but he gets the struggle that his son feels, even if he thinks his son should listen to his parents who know better and can help him avoid any big, life-changing mistakes. He hasn't visited his son in Europe yet but now that xue xinlun seems to have made Amsterdam his home base, there's a good chance he will visit soon.
