Day Zero: Clara Zykova
Clara, steeling her heart, came to a decision. There was no time to wait - stalling could get Abraham hurt. Leaning close to him she whispered: "Call the police, then sneak out of the window. Please, just do it and don't worry. God is with the righteous."

Keeping low and quiet, Clara moved a little bit away to keep Abraham out of the line of sight, before standing up, back straight as if an iron rod has been rammed into it. Channeling all the imperiousness she could muster, Clara spoke: "The the store is closed. What are you doing here?"

Behind you in the dim light you can see Abraham as he fades into the darkness to find a window to get out of.

The figure in front of you seems to make no sound or movement when you show up. Behind it you notice that the sky has darkened outside. Strange, it's later in the afternoon but not dusk. The figure lifts it's finger and points at you.

"You have been chosen to become one with us. Your heart is not yet corrupt but it will be."

---

This thing, is the creature which will eventually change you character. Feel free to describe him in detail. What does he look like? What features does he have. We will work out fine details later but make sure you are very careful when describing him as he will come back and haunt you later.

Clara froze, trying to process the... person(?) standing before her. They wore what seemed like a dark purple poncho over a sleeveless vest, pants and heavy boots, all clothes decorated with the golden patterns, like circuitry or some sort of stellar map. That was basically normal. The left arm was normal too - a muscular olive skinned arm with spidery fingers and heavy covering of arcane tattoos quite a few of which Clara could recognize. It was the rest that was giving Clara trouble. The stranger was a bizarre chimera, as if someone wanted to build a man but only had spare parts from multiple sets left. The right arm was a prosthetic, made of ivory and metal and far more animate than Clara thought was possible. And the head... It was completely bald, the top of the face hidden by what seemed like a bone mask, intricately carved with more occult symbols and fitted so tightly Clara could not see the gap between it and the person's skin. In the mask's sockets two blue eyes burned arrogantly. The bottom of the face, hairless and white-skinned, was criss-crossed with scars and burn marks - a scowling thin-lipped face that has seen more wear and worry than any face ought to in its life.

The figure bends down to the floor and you see him with his fingers trace symbols into the floor with his long finger nails that could pierce skin. The symbols briefly shine with a trace glow of red and then you begin to notice that all the windows and doors have a snake like pattern that form around them swiftly.

"We need to talk. Please join me inside the main book store rather than this dingy backroom."

He walks past you with no motion or intention other than the glace of moving forward.

Well... That was probably the second best option Clara could have expected, aside from him being an extremely confused customer who was just about to leave. After an extremely brief debate between fight, flight and negotiation, negotiation has won the decisive and bloodless victory.

"Alright. Lead the way - you seem to know your way around." The more she could bait out of the stranger - the better equipped she'd be. "Feel like telling me what you've been stalking me for?"

"You are very special to us."

The figure says without turning around.

"Your soul has a certain unique quality which draws us to you. You see most people who walk the earth are sheep." He turns around and starts grabbing a book off the shelf. "They take everything they see for face value but they don't understand that there is a different world out there. A more dangerous world. We are the creatures that find solace in our existence by living in the shadows and feeding off this world."

Your brain tries to comprehend what he is saying but clearly he has stated that it is not human.

"Ah, of course, the good old allegory of the cave. Everyone is sheeple but the select few philosopher-kings." Clara blurted out. The rude sarcasm was a coping mechanism. Reconceptualizing the stranger as an elitist made him easier to deal with. More normal. "So there's a dangerous world out there where cloaked strangers stalk innocent girls. What am I supposed to do about it?" She watched the stranger warily, even if his book-fondling was inoccuous.

The stranger smiles an evil grin that gives you a shiver down your spine.

"You should make a deal with me. The deal is simple, allow me to mark you without a fight and you can go about your life. You will experience strange things as your life continues to experience your soul corrupt but you will live longer by accepting rather than denying me. Or you can deny me and, I kill your friend and then come back to finish you off."

The best gives a shrug as to make your choice.

"Riiiight. All you need is the bloody signature under the contract and then we are best of pals. Sonds amazing friendo." Clara's tone made it clear that this did not sound amazing. "Why would I do this though? What's in it for me? If you just wanted to kill or kidnap me - you wouldn't be bargaining." 'Please let Abrahm be safe.' Clara thought. The book peddler escaped through the window, he must be safe.

"Ohhh excellent question friendo."

The stranger claps its hands together as if to mock praying.

"Well first, I would desemboil your friend. He is of very little use to me. Second, I would simply rip the flesh from your pretty little bones. So girl, what say you? I grow tired of these human endeavors."

The stranger slams a book back into the book case knocking dirt and dust off the books which linger in the air like fine particles. Up above you notice that there is a shelf that seems too heavy to hold the load of books.

OOC: I just introduced a situational aspect into play. These are aspects of the situation which lead themselves for use just like one of your aspects you picked in the beginning. Unlike your normal aspects they do not require FATE Points to use, you simply include them in your reply and +2 to your roll. More may become available as you continue your conversation.

"Right. Sounds like an amazing deal."
As the stranger slammed the shelf, Clara's rusty primprodial reflexes fired. Spinning into action she pushed the shelf onto the stranger, relying on its shaky weight distribution more than her own power. Immediately after - she ran, blindly, wanting to just get away.
It wasn't that Clara was against peering past the veil and delving into the unknown per se... In fact the opportunity was quite tempting. But not like this. She wanted to go on her own terms, or at least be dragged in kicking and screaming. Good things didn't happen to those who meekly followed mystagogues - those roads led to sacrificial altars more often than to the enlightenment.

21:20, Today: Clara Zykova rolled 0(+3) using 4 Fudge dice ((-1, 1, 1, -1)).
OOC: You introduce an aspect like that into the situation, who am I to say no? :D

The books fall on the creature slamming down on it with a loud thud. There is an agonogy of cries that come from the thing as the weight of the books press down on its body. The dust from the old books is blinding creating a cloud that blocks view.

After the last book has fallen you can still hear the creature stur underneath. It's anger growing with each moment that you ran. You make your way to the door but a red crackle of energy blocks you that slams against you.

Beyond the door you can see Abraham on the other side looking bewildered by the magic. Every few seconds the red energy sparks as if something is breaking it.

OOC: Welcome to your first real fight. The energy itself is an obstacle which is blocking your path. There are many different types of obstacles, some can even be enemies. In order to beat this obstacle and escape safely, you'll need to use your wits and a little help from a friend.

Fate Points. You now have all of your Fate Points and remember you are free to make up stunts and aspects that could help you escape. Key point is to remember that these stunts and aspects are normal, these are NOT your super-natural gifts as that has not taken place yet.

What the hell was happening. Clara felt like she was going crazy - stalked by one stranger the whole day, then hunted down by another, even stranger stranger, and now this... This couldn't be real. But with Abraham here, Clara could not afford to act as if it wasn't. "Damn you, Abraham, why are you still here?! I told you to run!"

So, let's assume this was magic. Clara knew magic. She grew up consuming tome after densely written tome of ancient warlocks, taoists and communists. Given the sparks of recognition with this warlock's tattoos - something she knew must have been right. What though? The field blocking Clara's escape must have been a ward - that's what those were called. And judging by its strained, sputtering flashes - something was interfering with it. Not exactly a well founded theory, but it was the best Clara had. So the question was - what was interfering.

"Abe, tell me everything that's touching the door and is part of the door on your side! Absolutely everything you see! Just trust me, please!" On her side, Clara did the same, studying the door and its surroundings in finest detail as hurriedly as she could.

OOC: 21:03, Today: Clara Zykova rolled 0(+4skill+2invoke) using 4 Fudge dice ((1, -1, 0, 0)).
And I will invoke "red energy sparks" for an extra +2, as its these disruptions that make Clara suspicious.

Nothing on her side looked good. The door knob was cheap plastic, and the rest of the door was barren. Clara prayed that something Abraham sees will set her mind ablaze.

OOC: So with a +4 skill and the invoke that gives you a +6 which is more than enough to beat the roll.

IC: The door energies shake as Clara tries to find a weak point in the energies. When Abe grabs the other handle you find that the energy does manage to weaken for a split second which throws the energy surrounding the door off.

It breaks and a wave of energy knocks you back a few feet from the door itself. You are not hurt but Abraham is laid out on his butt on the other side, still he appears shocked.

You manage to get up, the dust still blocking your view of the creature and you begin to the run to the door. Just as you start a hand grabs your arm and you feel and intense heat radiate around the area before you yank it back from the creature.

It appears wounded and winded from the books that feel on it as it watches you run out the door.

Abe gets up and runs with you down the street. He looks back huffing and puffing once you are in a more open area that has tons of people.

"Ms. Clara what was that? I'm so confused."

Your arm beings to tingle a bit and you can see that the marks from the hands of the creature are deeply marked on your arm.

"Ms. Clara that looks bad. We have to get you to a hospital."

Day Zero: Clara Zykova
Sweating and winded, Clara hunched over, her hands on her knees, trying to recover. It was a long, stressful day, and now the fatigue was catching up with her. The burning sensation from the stalker's imprint wasn't helping either.

"Yeah... Yeah. Thank you, Abraham. And sorry that I dragged trouble to your doorstep like that." The thoughts whorled in Clara's head, clashing and chaotic, but eventually she built up a picture. First things first - Abraham. "Abe, there's a police station nearby, yes? Can you go to them? Tell them there's been a break-in at your store, that you barely escaped with your life. They'll keep you safe. Can you do this for me? Please? I'll go to the hospital, it's okay, I'm not bleeding out here." This was a lie. Clara wasn't going to go to the hospital. The Invisible Man was right - there's been a hunter after her, and she was in danger. And apparently... magic was real. Clara couldn't rely on a hospital - hospitals have never been secure. She had a faint hope that police, with guns, would keep Abe safe. But she was willing to risk things, and put her trust into the Invisible Man. Maybe this safehouse of his would really be safe and have some sort of answers. Maybe it was all an elaborate trap. Whatever the case - the second Abe was gone, Clara was going to the address listed on the archaic paper in her pocket.

Abe looked at Clara with worry in his eyes.

"Ms. Clare but what if that thing comes back?"

You pat Abe on his shoulder reassuring him without real words.

"Okay, Ms. Clare will do but you stay safe. I will come find you later on. Please make sure you get that looked at."

After spending a decent amount of time using Google maps and tracking down your mystery location you finally find the address. Dust has set in and the sun has slowly dipped in the sky. Rather than just rushing to the door you watch for a little while to see if you can see any movement taking place. After a short amount of time it isn't long before you realize that you don't see anyone leaving or going but there is movement inside of the house.

The house itself seems to be very out of the way from busy main streets. Homes are next to it in similar fashion but there is something that doesn't stand out about this location. It's more secluded even though the home itself is normal by regular standards.

Feet planted on the cooling asphalt, Clara deliberates what to do next, but... She didn't really have a choice. The attacked found her once, and there was no guarantee he wouldn't do it again. This was the only chance she knew of.

Clutching the thunderously beating heart in a metaphorical fist, Clara went up to the house to knock the door and enter.

The inside of the house appears to be warm but empty as soon as you walk in. The door opens without any hesitation and is left completely open. Inside you find yourself looking around trying to find any indication of people.

You come around the corner to the kitchen area which has the seats pulled out. A single candle is in the middle of the table.

"Why hello stranger." The mysterious man says without hardly looking at you. He looks at your arm. "Well, well. Fate has happened anyway. Looks like your marked now, that's both good and bad news."

From the shadows you see the man walk forward and there is a very familiar face in front of you. The same man from earlier who was following you is now in front of you and very much in the flesh.

"Hello again Clara."

The man has a smile on his face but he can quickly catch the fact that your expression is going to shift to anger.

He puts up one finger.

"Now before you get mad at me. I did tell you this would happen. It's our job to try to prepare you but we must not interfere with what happens."
