Dean seemed a little confused, but looked to Thomas and moved to test the theory.

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
Dean shook his head slightly, almost in a confused way before he glanced to the others and took a step back.

"It's hard to describe. Kind of like walking up to the edge of a cliff I guess?" he glanced to Thomas again. "I'm pretty sure I could do it, but it's not, you know...comfortable." he explained.

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
Cailin opened and closed her mouth a couple of times at Abe's question, clearly hesitating to say something. Finally, she said. “I have no idea. Truth be told, as far as I'm concerned, a couple hours ago I was a normal high-school student going home for dinner, so…” She shrugged.

The angel-girl looked at Dean and Jack, curious, tilted her head to the side then approached Thomas. Odds were whatever was happening only affected vampires, and she didn't have to care all that much but anything she could learn about this new world was good.

Cailin had no problem getting closer to Thomas than the five yards the two vampires hadn't been able to cross.

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
Dean made a pensive sound and shifted his weight. "Not sure what to make of that...maybe it's some kind of, natural defense? Like an evolution thing?" he was not sure if he was going to offend Cailin by brining up Darwinism, but he could not think of a better example.

He looked around and seemed to feel the need to elaborate. "You know, like bright colors mean poison or things like that. Maybe there's something there to keep, well..." He looked uncomfortable as he tried to find a better word. "Predators away."

That's really what he was now after all, if he was being honest with himself. He was flush on stolen blood, and his knuckles still ached from the beginning of the evening.

He looked to Thomas next. "Seems like you're lucky man. Don't need to worry about our kind at least." That was not strictly true, Dean felt like he could try to push past whatever was going on, although he really didn't want to. Like sticking your hand in the middle of a campfire, it could be done, you might even get away without injury, but it wasn't smart. That and there was nothing stopping a Vampire from just using a gun like any other person, but he was not going to bring that up either.

He looked to Cailin last. "So...it seems like you just got here then? Is there another meeting or...is someone in trouble?" He asked, obviously working in limited information himself.

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
“For evolution to be involved you'd need to have some external constraints on a whole population.” Cailin evidently didn't seem bothered at all about evolution. “So it's evolution only if his parents have the same trait. Otherwise it's merely a possible future evolution - assuming it can be consistently inherited - and just a fluke, a mutation or something, for now.” She looked at Thomas. “You'd do well to test your family on that, and in any case keep really, really quiet about it. I imagine most vampires wouldn't like the idea of humans becoming able to repel them en masse. I suppose some would want to nip that in the bud so to speak. Or study you…”

She shook her head then answered Dean…with a question. “Angels have meetings too? Uh…” She grimaced under her hood. “Though I don't think I'm the kind they'll ask to go to meetings. Anyway no, no trouble. I'm supposed to help Mr. De La Vega, and he told me the best way to help him was to help his new cohort, that's all.” She shrugged. “So here I am.”

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
Dean seemed a little lost, and was silent for a few moments before he spoke.

"I'm sorry, I'm still new to a lot of this." He began sincerely. "So you're an Angel, like a Christian Angel like Michael or ah..." He was obviously having trouble thinking of other angels. "Gabriel" he remembered.

"And God, the God, wants you to help...De Vega?. The Vampire. he sounded like he was becoming more unsure at this point.

"And Baron De Vega, turned down your help, the help of the literal Angels in Heaven, and sent you...to us?" he asked. It would not be his last question, that was certain. He obviously had many, but was holding back.

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
“Well, so am I, so…” Cailin shrugged. “An Angel, yes. A Guardian Angel if we want to get technical in fact. Not a Christian Angel though. Well, I mean, it's not impossible I suppose, but I don't believe in god, so… I know, I know, pretty difficult considering, and I suppose I should be precise and say I don't believe in any religion. Not Atheist but Agnostic.”

“No idea about god…” She snorted. “I'm told…” She stopped, frowning and grumbled thoughtfully. “I don't know what I can say and what I shouldn't say…” A second later, she shook her head. “Well, at any rate, I got my instructions from someone else, and sent to Mr. De La Vega as… uh… not exactly hazing but… I'm told our first…case…is supposed to be difficult so that we have 'something to look at for the future'.”

“After that, Mr. De La Vega sent me to you both because he knows I'm as new as they come and wants to see how useful… and trustworthy… I can be. Plus, he wasn't fond of the idea of having someone at his side to remind him to eat his greens I suppose.” She grinned.

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
Dean looked like he was about to say something, stopped, licked his lips and then took a deep breath. "There's...a lot to unpack there."

He seemed to deflate a little. Perhaps it was some kind of disappointment? Perhaps he had been hoping for more? He was obviously not disappointed in her particular, he had just been hoping for answers, and she had few of them to offer through no fault of her own.

So many questions, still so few answers.

"Well, thanks for telling me what you could." he looked to the floor, then up and around. "How long are you with us for?"

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
Cailin chuckled. “I would invite you to visit, but…” She spread her hands. Her mood darkened quite a bit. After a moment she shook herself. “Anyway, I'm not sure for how long I'm here. If Mr. De La Vega calls me I'll go to him, and once I've introduced myself…” She frowned, pausing for a moment before continuing a bit less sure of herself. “and told you that you can call me too… Well, I'm not sure…”

She scratched her chin, pensive. “I don't even know if I need to eat or sleep, that's how little I know. Though I have a few nice new toys.”

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
Dean made kind of a "hmm" sound and nodded . They were all in the same boat then, so to speak. Although some were apparently recruited as some sort of celestial beings, and some were gifted with magical powers and supernatural beauty. Others had to drink the blood of the living and risk death or dismemberment in an ancient war.

Some got to see their family, friends and the sun. Others, not so much.

"Well...good to have you with us. If that helps at all." he looked to Abe and Sparrow. "I don't suppose you guys grabbed my stuff? The bags that were in the truck?"

"Yeah, I've got it Dean."  Abe replied.  He went back to his room and brought Dean's things out to him.

He raised an eyebrow at Cailin.  "What kind of toys?"  He asked simply.  "I'm not sure what we want to be doing as a group, but knowing what each of us can or would like to do should help.  In addition to my mundane skills, currently can light small fires, read place and object histories, teleport, and speed people up.  My current main goal is to keep surviving and to get to finish my schooling.  Sorry, Dean."

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
“Well, mostly I can Heal. Not everything everything, but quite a few things. Other than that,” Cailin smiled, “I can teleport too - though we call it Orb in our case - a fair distance away, and bring one of you,” She glanced at Thomas and Sparrow “Well, not you two, sorry.”

The angel looked at her right palm. “I've got a… Hmm…” She seemed pensive, “Well, I can shoot light and heat out of my palm. I'm not sure how effective it is as I've only tried on a wall before,” She looked at the nearest wall, “And it was a pretty special wall so it didn't do a thing. But I'm not sure those walls would like it if I tested it on them. Plus, I'm not sure vampires would like it any better if I did it.”

She seemed to think for a moment. “Oh, yes, there's this,” she started to float a meter or so above the floor, “very nice for dramatic entrances! Though on the other side of the equation, I can do this.” After a second or two where nothing happened, she added. “Uh, wait, it's harder than it looks.” She floated down to the floor as she talked and, a couple of seconds later, her white robe disappeared: Cailin was now wearing a jean and a white hoodie, with simple black shoes. Her hair was let free and she didn't have any apparent make-up but even like that she was striking. “I can go anywhere without drawing attention to me.” Which… Well… That wasn't quite right, but she didn't seem to think so. Or to be aware of it?

"Yeah, I've got it Dean."  Abe replied.  He went back to his room and brought Dean's things out to him.</quote>

"Hey, there they are. Thanks for grabbing those man." He accepted the bags, which were fairly light, and set them next to the door. "Just a heads up, my phone's gone, so I'll hit you up when so get a new number."

Abe Griffith:
" My current main goal is to keep surviving and to get to finish my schooling.  Sorry, Dean."

"No worries. The a out Asali is pretty much a Vampire Cop, policing our own kind. So I'll be helping with that in addition to the whole War thing. Going to be a lot of training" he sounded exhausted just thinking about it.

He watched Cailins display and seemed impressed. "That last one does seem handy. People always stared even before this happened, but you know what that's like." He said with a soft chuckle.

"So what are you working on at the moment?" He asked her, with a tone that suggested he might have a favor to ask.

“Well… I suppose I still need to meet Tom. Other than that…” She shrugged. “Nothing much. Trying to get wings or a sword of light…” She paused, her head tilted to the side. “I can shoot a beam out, so if I can make it stay close, like a… Well, like a saber laser…” Her eyes sparkled. “That'd be so cool…”

A second or two later, the girl shook herself. “Uh, well, anyway…” She shrugged. “Nothing much. Why?”

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
Dean stepped a little closer and lowered his voice. He was not trying to make it a secret so much as it just seemed important to him.

"Look, I know we just met, and you're new to all this, but it seems like...well, something an Angel would do I guess." he blew out a long breath.

"In the next week or so my parents are probably gonna be told I'm dead, or missing." he explained. "It's part of the whole secret thing...so they stop looking for me."there was obviously some emotion in his voice as he went on.

"Could you...maybe help them out? Cope with the whole losing their son. I'm, well, I was their only child. They're gonna be crushed. I know that's not the kind of healing you were talking about, but, anything would help."

He seemed to remember something and added. "As long as they are still sure I'm dead, for their safety. And if it keeps the cops up here from asking any more questions, that would be good too."

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
As Dean started to explain his request, Cailin listened attentively. Quickly though, she froze. Then, for a moment it looked like she was trying very hard to keep herself together…but finally the dam broke and she ended bursting into heavy, heartrending sobs, her hands on her face, half crumbling to the ground.

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
Dean stopped. It was hard for him too, but among his buddies, his "cohort" in their new vocabulary he was trying to be a strong presence. When Cailin broke down, it took a lot for Dean to not just follow suit.

"Hey..." he said soothingly. "You alright? You don't have to do it, i just figured..." he trailed off, then put a hand on her shoulder.

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
Abe was surprised by the breakdowns but he had to remember that the two of them were dead to their families.  That would have been much harder than merely having to worry about them... though perhaps it was less worrying than constant concern that his activities might blow back on his family.

He stood back and let the two of them talk things out.

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)
For a while, Cailin tried unsuccessfully to stop herself from crying, wiping her eyes ineffectually. Finally, in between sniffs, she answered. “Sorry. I'll ask. It's just… It's just I can't do it for me. I don't even know what happened to me. I can't even talk to my dad, so… so… I'll ask. But…” She shook her head. “I won't be able to do much…”

"Thanks" Dean replied softly.

"I should probably get going, need to you know, report in. It was good seeing you guys. Really" then he turned back to Cailin. "And it was good to meet you."

"I'll let you know when I have a phone working again." He assured them all as he walked to the door and grabbed his bags.

If nobody had anything else, he waved and went on his way.

Before Dean could leave, Cailin asked him, “Wait, what's their address?”

Once she had her answer, she nodded and said, “I'll see what I can do, but I can't promise anything…”

After a moment, she shook herself, then looked at the others. “If you don't need me right now, I suppose I'll go meet Tom?”
