1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)

Previously on Shadowland
Four students at Croatan College had driven a 6x6 Mercedez Benz pickup to San Diego.
At their final stop, they had witnessed an all-out battle between vampires and werewolves.
Three of them had died! All of them had been transformed into something more.

To save the unlives of two, all four had entered the shadow world of vampires in the service of Baron De La Vega.

And they then scattered to the winds to find their own part of Shadowland.

It has been a strange few days. Living in a luxury apartment has in some ways been the least strange. And now he has some time for a little normalcy in his life, his first break from magic since he stepped foot in said apartment.

It's Friday and Abe pulls up on the driveway of his parent's home. His home. Still?

[Feel free to give us some details about your parent's place.]

1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)

Abe walked up to the classy two-story adobe home he had grown up in.  The small trees in the front yard remained just short of the roof still - when he was younger he had expected them to eventually surpass it, but now he knew they never would.  They just didn't have it in them.  The hedge that fenced in the extremely small yard was still well kept, and the iron gate connecting two short stone pillars at the walkway looked to have been recently painted.  The flowering bushes seemed as well maintained as ever.

He had decided against getting a haircut back to anything resembling high-and-tight.  It made him look even more different, but hopefully it would take the blame for a lot of the difference in appearance if one of his parents was ignorant of Shadowland.

He ignored the doorbell and made two quick raps on the door before entering.  Ahead of him beyond the entry way was the kitchen, same as always, and to the right was the living room, which extended past the doorway to the front, partially shielding it from wind and weather.

"Hello?"  He asked as he entered.

Cale, Abe's younger brother, was the first to get to the door. He embraces Abe in greeting.

"Wooh," Cale says after ending the hug and looking at Abe's face. "No longer the Marine Corps look I see. It works for you."

The second to arrive at the door was his father, Mace, who hugged him too.

Cathryn, his mother, came down the stairs, saw Abe, and started crying. She sat down on the stairs and covered her face.

Abe acknowledge Cale's comment.  "Yeah, not sure if I'll go back to high-and-tight, but freshman year seems like the time to experiment with things."

Abe saw his mom crying and knew she knew.  He sat down next to her on the stairs.  "Mom, you okay?  I know it's a big change, but it's smaller than deployment at least.  It will be okay."

He looked up to Cale and Mace, and asked "You guys mind giving us a minute?"

The other men in the family nod and make themselves scarce.

Soon, you hear from the TV "You don't understand... that is my ceremonial blade. I am a pilgrim, here for the sacred day of Chu'dag." Another episode of Babylon 5.

Cathryn hugged Abe, but didn't answer his question.

Where he had previously had his emotions playing across his face, Abe's face became a mask of calm.  The mask one wore when a DI stood two inches in front of one's face: no flinching if it seemed fearsome.  No laughing if it seemed ridiculous.  Just calm.

"And his name?"  Abe asked.

Abe nodded calmly.  If things went south for his family, he knew who he'd eventually be visiting, in order to... share his feelings of remorse and regret.

"And what was her name?"  Abe asked?  The woman hadn't caused this and had tried to save his mother from an impossible situation, so he had no problem with her.  That said, any contact in Shadowland might be useful at some point.

He'd have to talk with Sparrow about what to do with Jayne.  Her intelligence and curious streak had him seriously concerned.

Abe continued nodding until he realized it was just a nervous response.  He had noticed the discrepancy between his birthdate and his parents' anniversary.  But he'd had no reason to doubt his parentage until today.

"Well, the parts that wouldn't get a person killed would have been nice to know before today.  I won't hold this against you, but I've gotta go do what I can to make sure it doesn't bite everyone in the butt in the near future.  So I have a job of work to do before tomorrow.  I'll either be back tomorrow or in a few days.  Anything else I should know before I go?"  He asked resolutely.

Abe's eyebrows rose.  "Oberyn didn't tell you?"  Abe cursed.  It might have been better if his mom had not known.  "Finding out anything about anything is a death sentence for mortals if anyone finds out about it.  Of course not knowing I wasn't your two's child, I alluded to things with Jayne and I doubt I can get her off the trail.  You know how she is about a mystery - even worse than I am.  I'll see what I can figure out for you two and I'll be back.  You should be fine as long as you don't say anything else to anybody, that's worked for decades.  But I'll need to figure something out for Jayne."

He stood to go.

He dialed Dean's number.  Whether he got an answer or voicemail, he said, "Hey Dean, it's Abe.  I've got a problem that apparently you can help me fix.  Mind if I ask you some things about stuff you can do?"

About a minute later Dean came back on. "Yeah, we can. I'm still getting the hang of it, and it's not guaranteed or anything, but we can do it. So far I've only ever done it right after, well, you know." Dean wonders inwardly what the odds are of somebody tapping their phones. This is the first time he is discussing this sort of thing other than face to face.

"Did something happen?" Dean asks after a beat.

He continued.  "But I booped up and was freed to be myself.  People out there know about me, and Fae are apparently valuable for their abilities.  So, when people look into my background to find more, and they instead find out that you all are human, I expect that things will go badly.  I've been told fatally badly.  I suppose instead of you forgetting about Shadowland, we could fake my death, and I could change my name and never come around anymore.  But I feel like that would be harder for all of us."

"Well, there's no exception to be gained there.  Jayne's coming in tomorrow, and I'd hinted at something important to her.  I'll see if she's got an exception and otherwise will have a friend help her forget about the whole thing.  Not really much for her to lose.  She'll wonder why she's out here though... mind helping me arrange a special afternoon for her tomorrow?"  He asked.  He really felt like a moocher, and he hated it.  Staying at Sparrow's place, borrowing his friends' abilities, and now his mom's expertise at throwing things together.  He hoped to get to paying people back soon.

[OOC: I'm good with wrapping up here and moving on to next day meeting Jayne.  If Tom and Dean don't mind being nearby at her arrival to a) screen her, and b) make her forget why she decided to come home if there's nothing supernatural about her, I'd appreciate it.]

18 May 2019, past 8.00 AM, San Diego International Airport

Abe and Tom were waiting at arrivals for Abe's sister. The second person for Tom to read on Abe's behalf.

When you see her in the distance, she isn't alone. She is talking to some guy. Tanned and dark haired. As they come closer, you recognize him. It is Thomas, another San Diego student at Croatan University. The one that had texted and called both of you before your "accident" and all through the night and morning. And Abe had called him the morning after.

He is fit. Objectively speaking, he's a good looking guy. And whatever he just said, he made Jayne laugh as they approach you.

Jayne hugs Abe. "Hi, this is Thomas. He's from Croatan too."

Abe was surprised by Thomas's appearance.  He had seemed like a good guy.  But then he'd had a dream about the driving group dying and now he had shown up unannounced... and with Jayne.  He raised an eyebrow at Tom, asking if either had anything special about them.

He moved toward the duo, reaching out to hug Jayne, then shake Thomas's hand.  "Good to see you guys.  Jayne, Thomas, this is Tom.  Tom, this is Jayne, my sister, and Thomas, an NROTC man at Croatan.  He's the one you beat out for the last driving spot when I drew names randombly between all the good applicants."

To Jayne he commented, "We'll never get lost with these two around."  Referencing the GPS company.

Giving Thomas a what's up head tilt and smiling, Tom says, "Hey, Thomas. Sorry about not getting back to you the other day." Thomas is a strange one. After Thomas's frantic texts and warnings, Tom half-expected Thomas to be some kind of supernatural being as well. Thomas does not seem to have any character flies whatsoever, good at everything, well-liked by everyone. If there was a real-life Mary Sue, it'd be Thomas.

When he gets a chance, he tells Abe quietly, "They seem normal to me."

"You know Abe," Jayne asks Thomas.

"He talked to the NROTC class about his experiences in country. And we were in the same history class, right?" Thomas looked at Abe for the final part of his comment.

Jayne chuckled at Abe's TomTom comment.

Thomas returned Tom's head tilt. "No worries Tom," he says. "Abe did get back to me. And everything turned out to be fine."

Jayne gave Thomas a strange look.

"I'll catch up with all of you later," he says. "It was nice meeting you," the last was directed to Jayne. "And you," she says. And he leaves.

Abe then remembered the other problem with Jayne coming in.  For his family it had been months of time for him to change, but for Jayne it would have been just a week.  He couldn't tell her an outright lie, both due to his general inability to do so and how well she knew him.  So, he went with not lying... but also not telling the full truth.  "I can't tell you that it was an experiment I volunteered for and that only qualified for because of my rather unusual genetics.  I also can't tell you who did it, but I can tell you that there are no foreseen negative side effects from it, though I may, unfortunately, have to suffer the attention of women due to my extreme prettiness."  He concluded with a smirk and a wink.

He thought a moment and looked around to make sure no one else was paying them any attention.  At least beyond what he was starting to get used to getting, or within earshot.  When sure he had privacy, he added with complete sincerity, "Seriously, though the NDA is super strict - far beyond even what it was when I was on deployment - so please don't poke into it.  I didn't know that we're half-siblings and you don't have the required genes and couldn't be a part of it when I called you, or I wouldn't have mentioned anything at all.  Hopefully, within the next couple of years I'll be able to speak a little more openly about it.  But or now, it's a no-go.  If you knew anymore than what I've said, we'd be better of if we'd committed actual treason because at least then there's due process.  It's been months since mom and dad have seen me, so I was able to pass off the change in appearance as lifestyle changes and reduced stress since I get to wrap up at night in my DD214 blanket."

Abe had conspicuously not given his father's name, but he would provide it in-person to Tom when away from his family at the earliest convenient time: Oberyn.  He'd also share with Tom that no one outside their cohort and Sparrow was allowed to know he was Oberyn's son at this point.

He replied to Jayne, "More like I've had peanut butter and jelly all my life, why go looking for sweet pickles?" He did so with a face that made his (low) opinion of sweet pickles clear.

It's Sunday and you are back with Sparrow in her apartment.

"Traveling is one of our most useful abilities," she says. "Some call it Gating or Teleporting. But it is the ability to open a gate that will take you from one place to another."

She showed you how to cast it and you start to try. The first hour nothing happens and she continues to instruct you on how to refine your casting. After 90 minutes, something starts to sputter visually rather than auditorily. Opening partially and then closing prematurely and winking away into nothing.

After about two hours your first gateway opened up in front of you. The circle was barely wider than your shoulders. The other end was only about five yards away. And the rim was made of leaves rather than the fire around Sparrow's gates.

Abe nodded as Jayne told him about Arcane Lux.  He was even more suspicious about Thomas now.

When he had gone, he called Sparrow to ask if all patrons at Arcane Lux were prone to being part of the herd, or if it was selective.  He revealed that his mortal half-sister would be going there with an allegedly mortal friend tonight, and wanted to make sure she was okay without revealing that she was his sister.

</hr>

Abe squinted with effort as he finally created a gate.  He smiled when it formed.  It was hard, and he could barely imagine opening something he could step through cross-country.  But when he was a teenager he couldn't have imagined being able to run ten miles straight, either.  Effort and exhaustion were nothing new... but the scale of it for magic was.  "What makes the difference between our edges?  Is it like a fingerprint,  part of our family lineage, a magical inclination, degree of expertise, just current mood, or what?"

Skipping back to Saturday night.

You went to Arcane Lux, but instead of paying to get in the main entrance, you went in for free through the underground entrance. You had seen the voucher Jayne had won, free entrance from the VIP line and five free drinks.

You talked to Carson, but he wasn't interested in outside help. You still had the go of the club.

At the table, she had a drink and he had a glass of orange juice. They danced. They seemed to enjoy themselves. They seemed to have fun. And none of Carson's people or the few vampires in the club you knew by sight came close to them. A couple may have been as close as five yards from their table, but they weren't approached by anyone of them.

Some Fae can do some of that and pretend to do all of it, but only a powerful one would be able to do all of it. And only if they chose to go down that path. But in all my time, I have never seen nor heard of anything like that actually happening. And newer pop culture references have removed it from the list of things that can harm vampires as far as I know. And revelation has great importance for some religions. And that would fit in with being goodly that you mentioned earlier as well."

"Interesting indeed. Your observations point towards something that in my experience doesn't exist. Unless there is someone playing on the old pop culture references for fun. And Fae are known to do things like that. Or he is a Ta'veren, causing the very unlikely to happen just by his presence. And some things take a long time to learn. And some things may be more interesting or easier to learn. And both of those things are quite hard and takes extensive study. When Abe arrived at the Arcane Lux, you were quickly led to the Baron's office. There were two others in the office, both of them vampires. One of them was Dean's master and the other, the vampire that had tried to approach your sister the other day. There was no small talk.

"We use a number of methods to find new additions to my herd," the Baron says. "One of them is giving out tickets to the club as random rewards on airlines. Recently two such tickets were won by this woman." An image of your sister taken from within the club was shown on a large TV screen.

"She brought this man," the image was replaced by an image of Thomas, also taken within the club.

"During the evening several of my people tried to approach them, but they couldn't. When they came too close they were filled by a dread that compelled them to stay away. This is something we have never encountered before. So we investigated." The image of your sister returned to the screen.

"Based on the information we received from the airline on who the winner of our prize was, we quickly discovered that she is your sister. If we had known that beforehand, she would not have been approached. But this way we stumbled on a secret the Fae has kept from us. And we want it! How do you do this?"

He continued, "Even if I were to be assured of the trustworthiness of those here, I still would need an oath that I could trust: that the information I share here would be kept secret and would not be used against myself, my family, or my friends.  Otherwise, I would feel obligated to destroy myself to avoid reneging on a debt, as well as the deaths of others... and if you were to pursue this course of investigation without knowing what I know, I would expect that you would pay a very disproportionate price to learn it, as the answer is definitely not what you are expecting."

Abe nodded to the Baron.  "Thank you.  The secret is that I am the only Fae in the family that raised me, and none of them are fully aware of what I am.  I've been away from them for a long while, so I sold my recent change in appearance as being part of living healthy instead of living enlisted.  And for my sister, who's seen me more recently, I sold it as a genetic experiment relating to my bio family.  Not even that implausible since I could probably start it myself with CRISPR.  Besides the whole "first rule of Shadowland" issues, I know who at least one of my biological parents are, and he would take my very existence and knowledge of him as an affront and has the power to make other people share his pain.  So, I'd rather people not go digging into my past.  I don't know if or how closely he's watching."

He looked back from the Baron to the picture of his sister.  "I wasn't sure it was a herd thing she had won, and since they're allegedly mortal I couldn't tell them to stay away from here or she'd have gotten suspicious.  So, I came and kept an eye on things to make sure nothing awkward happened.  I noted your vampire and a few of Carson's people coming near my sister and her date and veering off, and I've started investigating.  What I've got so far is that she or the man with her - an acquaintance of mine - is precognitive, possibly telepathic, knew what was going on here, is capable of deterring your people, and can fool a Hunter's senses.  Sparrow said that for a Fae to have learned to fake or use those abilities they'd have to be fantastically wealthy, skilled, and practiced."

"I very much doubt it was my sister, so I'm going to go ask after the other guy.  Anything you can tell me about different kinds of supernaturals so I can identify what he is, if he is something other than a human?"  He concluded and asked.

Other than that angels are healers and caregivers. While demons, and they are what you think they are. But there are many kinds of demons with various powers. I don't know if they register to a hunter. We could sneak up on some demons to find out, but they wouldn't be happy if we did that. And if they are unhappy with us, we are in deep trouble."

It took some time before Jayne replied to the text. Most of her response was about how awesome the Lux was. She described the place as if talking to someone that hadn't been there. Her voucher had provided more alcohol than she had felt the need to drink. Thomas had paid for everything else and even made sure that she had gotten home, as he hadn't drunk a single drop of alcohol.

Sparrow texted a short question in reply: "Was there something specific you needed to know?"

Jack texted "Let me know if there is something I can do."

As if realizing she had just spoken aloud, she said. “Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. Mr. De La Vega asked me to come find you. I am Cailin. As for how… I 'Orbed' in.” She shrugged. “Don't ask me, I'm not the one who decided to call it that.”

“Oh, I'm sorry to intrude.” Cailin lowered her head slightly, then waved at the three men. “I was expecting to find them.”

“In fact,” She added, obviously curious, “I was wondering why one of you,” She glanced at Abe, “Would ask the second one,” She turned to Jack, “To feed from the third one…” She looked at Thomas.

After all, not only it didn't sound particularly neighborly, why would Abe ask Jack to "test" to feed on someone else? Wasn't he a vampire too? Still turned to Thomas, she asked. “Do you need help?” From what she had heard it seemed he didn't… not yet anyway… but it didn't hurt to ask.

Abe hadn't wanted to answer for Thomas, but when Thomas responded, Abe nodded.  "I wasn't going to let Jack actually do anything to Thomas, but Thomas had demonstrated a probable ability to repel vampires that I wasn't sure would work if they were both cued in to it being a test."

He turned to Cailin.  "I'm Abe.  You said the Baron sent you - did he need us for something?  And and is there a reason he's sending an angel rather than a text?"

“It's the wings, right?” Cailin nodded to Thomas. “I asked him about the wings, but…” She sighed, sounding like she had been wronged. “And not even a flaming sword.” She shook her head. “But I think I can find a way to get the wings.” She was a "being of light", there was "no limit to what the could look like" and that came straight from Christopher's mouth so who knew? “Not sure about the sword though…”

After a moment spent thinking about that, Cailin shrugged, then looked at Abe, acknowledging his explanation with a nod. “I didn't say De La Vega sent me,” She sniffed a bit disdainfully. “He asked me to come. It's not that he needs you, he mostly just wanted to test me I think. He seems to think that at the moment, helping you is the best way I have to help him,” Which didn't make that much sense, but maybe he wanted to keep the new angel out of his feet until he knew what she could do for him. “And that's what I'm supposed to do, so…” She shrugged.

Sparrow got a call. She answered. "Yes, send him up," she said and hung up. "Dean is on his way."

"Actually not," Thomas said. "I expected the lack of wings. It's the lack of power that surprises me. I expected angels to radiate power. But I guess not. Just having been asked if I was an angel and then meeting a real angel is a little much, I think."

A short while later, the doorbell rang and Sparrow let him in.

Other than Sparrow and Abe, Jack was there, as well as another college-age male, and an angel. She was shorter than the other angels you've met, but like the others, her head and face were covered in that oversized hood of theirs.

[For the sake of continuity, it is now the evening of Tuesday 21 May. Cailin would be the only one not knowing what date/day it is.]

“Oh.” Cailin paused, then grinned. “That's because we prefer to be incognito. Makes things much easier.” Though of course, she had no idea if that was it at all. In fact, it had probably a lot more to do with her being barely more than a newborn chick - so to speak - than anything else. “Plus, if I were to radiate power, I think it'd be very uncomfortable for the vampires… Light and heat aren't exactly their friends, right?” She sure hoped at least that part of the myth was true anyway: she'd sound stupid otherwise… Lower, she grumbled. “Yeah, well, imagine being one…”

When Dean entered, Cailin nodded in his direction. She didn't say anything straight away though, her head tilted to the side as she "consulted" her map.

1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)

Dean ducked through the doorway with a somewhat uncertain demeanor, as if he was not quite sure of what he might find, or if he was in the right place.

He had changed even in the past few weeks from the sort of "bro'ey" linebacker that had travelled with the fated group cross-country. Then he had seemed confident, vital, and boisterous. The sort of guy used to locker rooms and practice sessions.

Now, he looked pretty rough. Not in a "bad ass" sort of way, but in the quasi-homeless backwoods nutjob sort of way. He had a few weeks worth of facial hair going, and his once shaved head was now growing in a deep chestnut brown.

Gone was the lumbering giant. While he was just as big, he moved more subtly and carried himself in a more reserved way. He did not "puff up" as much as he had before.

But the eyes, the eyes were the biggest difference. They had a marked wildness to them normally reserved for the subjects of wildlife photographers. Hungry, feral, and intent. It could be seen as disconcerting to some.

He was dressed in what had to be hand-me-downs or thrift shop specials, stained brown cargo pants, a gray shirt, work boots. The gray green flannel he wore looked like it had seen better days.

"Hey" he smiled at Abe, Tom and Jack in what he had meant to be a warm way, but now came off as sort of crazy. "This a good time?" He asked and acknowledged the othershe had not met  with a slight nod .

Abe Griffith:
Abe nodded to Dean.  "As good as any, Dean.  You officially dead now?  And are you okay?"

Dean seemed to think for a moment. "Yeah..." he eventually replied and nodded a few times, although it was hard to say which question he was replying to. He obviously had a lot on his mind.

Abe Griffith:
He looked around at the assembled group, gesturing to each in turn to avoid any confusion.  "Going around, so everyone can know each other as much as any of us do.  We've got me: who everyone here knows, Sparrow: our hostess, Dean and Jack: my cohort-mates, Thomas: special but apparently not an angel, and This Nameless Lady: apparently an angel."

Dean was visibly surprised at the mention of the Angel, and he looked to her with what was almost a hint of sadness in his eyes. He smiled faintly and nodded. "Didn't think I was going to run into another Angel anytime soon. I met Kyle a few weeks ago, he seemed really nice." He obviously expected her to know who Kyle was, and he had recalled the name easily, so whoever it was must have made quite the impression on him.

Cailin Weber:
Cailin blushed, embarrassed. While it was under her hood, it could be heard from her tone of voice. “Oh, sorry. I'm…” She paused there: should she give them her real name? Did she want to lie? In the end, deciding that it could be important that they have the right one, she finished. “Cailin.”

"Well, good to meet you" he obviously wanted to ask more questions as to why she was here, but he refrained for the moment and turned back to the others. "How have things been? You're all still here, that's great" and he really seemed to mean it, given everything that had happened. "Any big news while I've been gone?"

Abe nodded in greeting when Cailin gave her name.  "Thanks."  He said simply.

He raised an eyebrow when Dean mentioned meeting other angels.  Interesting, he thought.  How had Dean managed that?

He shook his head in response to the question about anything big: "For me, it's mostly been learning a bit about my powers and family, and realizing that Thomas here is a conundrum.  Which reminds me:"

He turned back to Sparrow.  "A lot happened in the past two minutes, but I was still wondering - is there a way we can detect ongoing supernatural phenomena?  Maybe someone put a magical barrier on Thomas before he went into the club.  That feels like the new best theory for how he reads as mundane but has a hedge against vampires.  That is, assuming there isn't an angel acting on his behalf?"  That last bit was asked in Cailin's direction, with an eyebrow raised.

Dean made a pensive sound and shifted his weight. "Not sure what to make of that...maybe it's some kind of, natural defense? Like an evolution thing?" he was not sure if he was going to offend Cailin by brining up Darwinism, but he could not think of a better example.

He looked around and seemed to feel the need to elaborate. "You know, like bright colors mean poison or things like that. Maybe there's something there to keep, well..." He looked uncomfortable as he tried to find a better word. "Predators away."

That's really what he was now after all, if he was being honest with himself. He was flush on stolen blood, and his knuckles still ached from the beginning of the evening.

He looked to Thomas next. "Seems like you're lucky man. Don't need to worry about our kind at least." That was not strictly true, Dean felt like he could try to push past whatever was going on, although he really didn't want to. Like sticking your hand in the middle of a campfire, it could be done, you might even get away without injury, but it wasn't smart. That and there was nothing stopping a Vampire from just using a gun like any other person, but he was not going to bring that up either.

He looked to Cailin last. "So...it seems like you just got here then? Is there another meeting or...is someone in trouble?" He asked, obviously working in limited information himself.

“For evolution to be involved you'd need to have some external constraints on a whole population.” Cailin evidently didn't seem bothered at all about evolution. “So it's evolution only if his parents have the same trait. Otherwise it's merely a possible future evolution - assuming it can be consistently inherited - and just a fluke, a mutation or something, for now.” She looked at Thomas. “You'd do well to test your family on that, and in any case keep really, really quiet about it. I imagine most vampires wouldn't like the idea of humans becoming able to repel them en masse. I suppose some would want to nip that in the bud so to speak. Or study you…”

She shook her head then answered Dean…with a question. “Angels have meetings too? Uh…” She grimaced under her hood. “Though I don't think I'm the kind they'll ask to go to meetings. Anyway no, no trouble. I'm supposed to help Mr. De La Vega, and he told me the best way to help him was to help his new cohort, that's all.” She shrugged. “So here I am.”

Re: 1.2 Family - Old and New (Abe)

For a while, Cailin tried unsuccessfully to stop herself from crying, wiping her eyes ineffectually. Finally, in between sniffs, she answered. “Sorry. I'll ask. It's just… It's just I can't do it for me. I don't even know what happened to me. I can't even talk to my dad, so… so… I'll ask. But…” She shook her head. “I won't be able to do much…”

"Thanks" Dean replied softly.

"I should probably get going, need to you know, report in. It was good seeing you guys. Really" then he turned back to Cailin. "And it was good to meet you."

"I'll let you know when I have a phone working again." He assured them all as he walked to the door and grabbed his bags.

If nobody had anything else, he waved and went on his way.

Before Dean could leave, Cailin asked him, “Wait, what's their address?”

Once she had her answer, she nodded and said, “I'll see what I can do, but I can't promise anything…”

After a moment, she shook herself, then looked at the others. “If you don't need me right now, I suppose I'll go meet Tom?”
