1.3 Thank You For Not Screaming (Dean Flashback)

Dean returned to his Sire and the place that had been "home" since he had returned to San Diego.

[There may be other scenes, they don't necessarily have to be in chronological order. It depends on what else you want to do.]

1.3 Thank You For Not Screaming (Dean Flashback)

Over the short span of his unlife, had been operating from an ever expanding lost of rules and guidelines to help him survive his supernatural adolescence, and to theoretically grow into a productive and valuable member of their "Shadow" community.

First and foremost, keep your secrets. Dean had obeyed that completely, and had spent no small effort towards cutting himself away from his own life in order to protect the new. It had been among his earliest and most important goals.

Step two, fall in line. Dean had tried, with difficulty at times, to remain humble. He was a very small fish, in a very large pond, so deference and respect to his Elders was not only expected, it was vital to his continued well being. This had already paid off in a sense, as he had been assigned to Asali, a Vampire of some importance, and he had learned much in return for his compliance.

Then, his first real conundrum. Asali had said that it was more or less taboo to feed from other Vampires. That made sense, a society of predators and parasites cannot function if everyone views every else as a potential meal.

But, she had also tasked him with finding this kindred in particular, a member of his Clan, the Schimba "strain" of his kind. Those most gifted with the alteration of their physical forms. He had been told to learn from him.

So while he had breached that taboo, he had theoretically come away all the stronger. He had become proficient in an incredibly useful and fundamental art, one that Asali herself had referenced, that of changing into an animal, and that of flight. Would she praise him? Or had he erred in some way? Had his efforts south of the border been enough to truly end his old life?

Dean fluttered down in the early hours of the morning, his large leathery form landing in a patch of hard packed soil before he gradually grew, stretched, and assumed his human form. There he lingered a bit to get his legs under him, and to adjust to his human eyes, his human ears, and his hulking form before he took his bags and went to go seek out his Mentor, and to fill her in on all that had occured.

As fortune would have it, Asali was at home when Dean entered.

"Yeah, for the most part." Dean greeted her, and set his bags aside. He then lingered there and told his story, from coming south to meeting Louis, to meeting the Baron of Tiajuana and the plan that they had formed together.

Dean was upfront with what had happened, as it had been on his mind as well. He explained that Louis had insisted that the only way to learn the art of shapeshifting, had been to consume his blood. Dean was clear that it had worked, and that it had already been useful, but that he was interested in her take on things, as a Clan matter, as the Sheriff, and as his Sire.

He included the rest, what had happened with Miranda and the things he had robbed from the man. When, or if it seemed happy, he asked about her knowing anybody that could alter the ID, or if she knew anybody who he could sell valuables like the smart watch or necklace too for easy cash.

Asali lowered her head when you told her about drinking Luis' blood. "You should not have done that." Incredulously, that was her only reprimand after having been very clear that that was something that wasn't done.

"Than it won't happen again." He assured her. If she was not going to expand on it, he was not going to either. Message received.

Dean discussed what he had felt, changing to and from his Chiropteran form and back, and asked for some advice on the diner details. It was unclear to him still if she was preparing him generally for survival in his new form, if he would be helping her with her nightly duties, or if he would eventually be expected to join the war effort.

Regardless, he had plenty to occupy himself, including getting some more cash, getting his ID and phone situation figured out, and paying off some of his debt to his Schimba Clan mates for the bike and clothing.

"Bat," Asali said. "That is a very useful form."

Dean spent a night training with Asali, learning more about her role as the Sheriff.
