Re: OOC III

You are very welcome! I didn't want to wait another round just in case of a fumbled death save.

For the record, Fergus is out of ranged healing slots so he'll have to make it to you in person now for good ol' cure level 1 cure wounds if needed. Once he's over his fears, he will concentrate on moving toward all of you in the event touch healing is needed. In the meantime, stay on your feet!

P.S Thanks, Sikuaq, for healing everyone else (including me) so I could focus on a single fallen foe.

P.P.S I tweaked my post to account for the fact that Fergus doesn't have Arvid in line of sight (due to the wall of fire). End effect is the same, Fergus summons the celestial to the west of the wall (H19) and the celestial flies 40' to Arvid and heals him. Just trying to keep it real!!!

Re: OOC III

Fergus Glowforge:
I don't think Fergus ever fell unconscious. He failed the INT save, but was at 75 hp, so even though he took 61 points of damage, by my count he is still standing... unless I missed something else which is entirely possible.

With that said, the concentration for Wall of Fire would be 31, so Fergus's wall (the southern of the two) is now a goner.

Sorry, saw you failed the save and misinterpreted the meaning of your last IC post. My bad! I guess Summon Celestial will consume your concentration anyway but FWIW I'd still let you roll and keep Concentration on a Nat 20.

Edit: If Fergus is healing Arvid up this round then Arvid doesn't need that death save and can act. Also Caell you're welcome to post your action now.

Re: OOC III

In retrospect, I can see how my previous post led to misinterpretation regarding Fergus's consciousness. As for the wall, good to know a nat20 can still beat a DC31, but I think the wall has served its purpose and as long as Sikuaq's is still up, Opalia can still make her awesome post. Plus, Summon Celestial requires concentration, so the wall has to go anyway.

Arvid Signeson:
A most curious sight was waiting for Arvid when his eyelids fluttered open. Standing tall above him, its ponderous limb extended towards his chest, was a stone man veined in molten steel. The creature was utterly alien. Imposing. And yet, somehow strangely not terrifying. A benevolent spirit burned behind that faceless mask, Arvid was sure of it. There was no cause for fear.

Inspiration to Arvid!!! I thought the entire post was great. The bit above, describing Fergus's summoned celestial, was spot on - better than I cold hope to describe him. Thank you. I literally got goosebumps!

And the bit about Keth made me laugh, too!

Arvid Signeson:
Cora and - was that Keth? Arvid shook his head. Perhaps he'd fallen harder than he'd thought.

Sorry! From the first hit or the second? The second will get redirected to Keth if the first was enough to drop Cora.

Re: OOC III

Limited to touch-healing only now, Fergus is too far away from Cora to do any good this round, plus with the rough terrain he can only travel 13' per round. So it's going to take him a while to get there :(

unless...

Is it possible for Fergus to reach Mammoth-Caell (whom I affectionately call MC) this round (looks like 15' between us) and then Fergus rides him over to Cora? Is MC even heading that way (looks like he still has a yeti to stomp upon)?

Just an idea. If nothing else, Fergus will dash in Cora's direction.

P.S. Opalia, great idea beating Garduk over the head with his own staff. If it works, does that possibly mean disadvantage for Garduk in the upcoming roll vs. Brigha? Even if it doesn't, it's totally cool so I hope it works.

In reply to Fergus Glowforge (msg # 921):

Mounting costs half your speed, so I don't know how much more efficient that would be. Farra is on her way to help you, but if you asked nicely, she could turn around and heal Cora instead :-)

Re: OOC III

Mounting Caell and riding over there might earn us some style points, but it's about the same as dashing that way, and it's kind of railroading Caell, which would be bad form.

So Fergus is just going to stumble over there as fast as possible. That stupid rough terrain is a major obstacle! Plus not having anything but lvl 1 and lvl 2 spell slots left, plus having short dwarf legs!!!

There are so many choice to make: Multiple enemy targets. Multiple injured allies in need of healing... spread all over the place. Maybe Fergus should fire a guiding bolt at the orc that KOd Cora? Guiding bolt at Garduk to help Opalia? Dash to Cora as fast as possible? Ride mammoth to Cora as fast as possible? Send celestial toward Cora to aid? Send celestial toward Garduk to assist Opalia? It took me hours to figure out a course of action (thank goodness it's a holiday) and I'm still second guessing it!!! As frustrating as all that is, that's what makes it fun. Inspiration to the DM for such a tangled web of possibilities.

P.S. Great job by Sikuaq taking kind of a dark turn in the middle of the biggest battle of our lives!!!! Should we even trust her anymore? And Valaku sworn to protect her and Brigha supposedly "helping" us??? And Caell is a wild animal? By my calculations, that makes Keth more trustworthy than 1/2 the party!!! Frightening!

Congratulations! You've defeated an evil god and his army and made a few friends along the way :-)

We've still got some significant wrapping up to do, but I expect that to be the last big fight of the campaign. Thanks to you all for making it epic in your own ways.

Re: OOC III

If Cora's able to sit down and just start the ritual I will but I figured it might pull the drag chute on you all if Cora just sat down and started meditating with the Starbound Blade.

Normally the Pact of the Blade's pretty straightforward, but we've seen before that it doesn't really conform to the rules so I'm leaving room for the DM to do anything needed before we move forward

Re: OOC III

quote:
You can transform one Magic Weapon into your pact weapon by performing a Special ritual while you hold the weapon. You perform the ritual over the course of 1 hour, which can be done during a Short Rest. You can then dismiss the weapon, shunting it into an extradimensional space, and it appears whenever you create your pact weapon thereafter. You can’t affect an artifact or a sentient weapon in this way. The weapon ceases being your pact weapon if you die, if you perform the 1-hour ritual on a different weapon, or if you use a 1-hour ritual to break your bond to it. The weapon appears at your feet if it is in the extradimensional space when the bond breaks.

Previous attempts to even just shunt it away have led to additional complications, Cora is concerned severing the connection to it might prove troublesome

Re: OOC III

Okay, somebody had to post something just so the post-count on the main menu would turn red again. Looks like we might need a pep talk, so here goes:

I've been on rpol for over 10 years now and this game is, without question, the best one ever. Everyone here is such an excellent writer (I mean top notch) and all of your characters are so deeply and thoughtfully developed that the last 3+ years in this game have been nothing but a joy. And while it is certainly bittersweet to stand in what appears to be the final scene, I think we owe it to ourselves to carry this fantastic story the final few steps with the same care and thoughtfulness that got us here.

So here's to you, my niece/daughter, my potential nephew/son-in-law, my giantess friend, my northman ally, my anatka, and my 100 other characters so adeptly played by our DM! This has been such a wonderful game. Let's carry it to the finish and then brag about it for another couple months in the OOC thread...

Who's with me???

FWIW I've been in no position to post anything new myself, so you weren't actually holding things up.

Fergus, I appreciate the kind words and the enthusiastic encouragement. FWIW I fully agree with you. I want to get back to a place where I can give you all the effort you deserve. Maybe tomorrow.
