Chapter Nine: Mortal Danger

Cora's portal transported the party to the top of Windermere Peak, the lone mountain that had long stood as a symbol of awe and mystery to those who had seen it. None had ever scaled it and lived to tell the tale (not credibly, anyway), and from the top, it was plain to see why. The peak was as barren, in its own way, as the Shadowrealm had been. The snow lay thick enough that even Opalia was up to her wide hips, and a bitter wind scoured unprotected skin. There was not even a majestic view to compensate for the unpleasantness, as a carpet of grey cloud obscured the land below.

Quenya's companions wasted no time taking the form of giant eagles, capable of carrying two people each astride their backs. Quenya herself turned into a living cloud, looking not unlike the avatar of Kinak the party had fought. It was a bit unsettling to trust one's weight to what appeared no more solid than water vapor, but her back was wide and flat enough to carry the rest of the party.

"We will to Lawton's Glen, by way of Gruundelheim," she declared. "One way or the other, we will spot Garduk and his forces, no arcane bauble required."

Chapter Nine: Mortal Danger

Opalia gathered with the fellowship of little friends and stood guard as Cora used the grandest sword to carve open the gate that would be their escape from this dead land.  Before entering she proclaimed with her characteristic casual confidence, "Does not matter how far KINAK and GARDUK flee, for STORMBREAKERS do follow."

Then the portal opened, and Opalia strode through alongside her friends, emerging on the very pinnacle of Windermere Peak.  The giantess stood tall in the hip-deep snow as the wintry gales whipped at her hair, and grinned.  She said, "This is a VERY GOOD place, mighty in spirit of stone and of air!  OPALIA did hope to climb to here myself.  One day, I will."  It was only after this pontification that Opalia noticed that some of the fellowship were entirely buried in snow, and so she got to digging them out from the white drifts.

The ride offered by the great druids seemed almost like cheating, but it was true that they had far to go to catch KINAK and GARDUK.  The giantess looked to her wise little friends for their reaction to this offer, and would follow their lead.  Opalia wished to accompany the most of her little friends as she could, and so would elect to be borne across the North upon the fluffy ANATKLOUD.

Since we've now spent some time with the druidic council, Opi has to Know Your Enemy on all three of them!  Are they her equal, superior, or inferior in:
  • Strength score?
  • Constitution score?
