Cool.

Hey Portia, what sort of trainer are you thinking of building? Seymour is probably going to be more mental-based and weaker with physical skills. I am thinking that IG and Intuition will be his best stats, and Strength and Agility will be his lowest. His starter pokemon is a lotad.

Howdy there.

I'm still in the midst of putting things together and figuring out my bonuses/negatives, but so far Portia is built in a similar manner.  More mental, but with average physical stats.  Pokemon can generally handle any primarily physical tasks anyway.  Portia's starting partner is Abra.

And the first post is up, catching up with your characters as they get off the train in the town of Bébagne. You can still adjust your character sheet, since there won't be too many checks until you leave the town.

I'll bump the add tonight, hopefully that will draw a few other players. For now, it was just the two of you on the train, with a couple of adults who paid you no attention.

Hi all,

I haven't gotten my stats figured out yet, but needless to say, Jakey is not much smarter than average (he might even be below average). He will chill out a bit soon, I promise :D

Not a problem - he's very much got that OG Ash Ketchum vibe going on, which works fine.  :3

I am watching sun and moon with my wife now, and I am trying to capture a bit of Ash's enthusiasm. I guess it is working!

Edit: Speaking of Ash, is this game canon in terms of Ash being an in-universe character? He probably would have been talked about in Kanto when he won the Alola league

Sorry for the quiet. My first baby is five months old and having a massive sleep regression. My brain is slightly melted. I'll post as soon as possible.

I can sympathize. I have a 16 month old, and he doesn't always like to sleep through the night. Lack of sleep can be a huge problem sometimes.

GM, I will have a new post up later today.

Re: OOC Center

Just a reminder for when a combat takes place, I'll need to know when, how, and how many Favors you want to spend.

A quick recap: Mythic rolls are a d100. Favor gives a + or - 1 per point spent. If you say you want to spend Favor on something, I'll use them to shift the result of a roll if the amount you want to spend would make a difference.

For example, say you want to spend up to 10 favor to avoid an attack, and you face a foe that need a 40 to hit.
If the foe rolled a 36, I would spend 5 favor to make him miss.
If he rolled 30, I wouldn't spend any favor, since 10 points isn't enough to avoid the blow.
And obviously, if he rolled a 42, no favor would be spent since he already missed.

Re: OOC Center

How many favor do we have available to spend? Is there a good online source for learning the Mythic system?

Re: OOC Center

The maximum is 25 on a single roll. However you only have 50 to start with, so you may want to keep your spending low until you made some story progress.

As for learning Mythic... other than getting the books (all in pdf, from Word Mill Publishing), there's not much guidance I know of. Just a few tools and the occasional review. I tried to give the best rundown I could in the Game Rules thread, but it may be a bit hard to figure out. Mostly because it's easier to understand by using it or reading examples.

And if you want to read examples, this Reddit thread is probably your best bet.

Re: OOC Center

Thanks!

Another question. Is capturing Pokemon more like the show (where you basically try to knock them out), or like the games (where you want to weaken them without knocking them out entirely)? And is it possible to win over a wild Pokemon without even battling it? By, say, befriending it?

Re: OOC Center

It's more a question of weakening them. It's a contest between your Pokéball resource and the Pokémon's catching rate. If the Pokémon is wounded, that gives him a penalty to resist.

And it is possible to befriend Pokémon to get them to join you, sometimes. It all comes down to what the Pokémon wants, and how you role-play the situation.

Re: OOC Center

Befriending Pokemon is pretty much going to be Portia's M.O., so here's hoping there's some good odds of that stuff working.  :3

Re: OOC Center

Thank you for the battle summary, Storyteller. It was very helpful. Also, woohoo! A shroomish! That was one from my wishlist. Sweet!

When I had lotad use astonish, I was thinking it would use his special attack stat since it is a ghost type move, but I see it was actually marked as a physical attack on lotad's sheet, so my mistake there. Something that both myself and Seymour have learned for the next battle. ;-)

I will make the necessary stat adjustments when I'm not posting from my phone.
