Ok guys, I am not a stealthy character by any stretch.

I am a decent shot, speak 4 languages, can get anyone to squeal relatively easy and I can patch people up, as I have a great medical skill.

I think Michael was aiming for working for the Agency once done with the military.

The agency is not really a thing anymore. The government fractured into the Civilian Government or civgov and the Military Government or milgov. Milgov was tge first to be organized after the bombs and has been losing ground over the years as Civgov got organized. No more political parties, its more of a personal account of politicians and the president now. The CIA, what was left of it, basically got absorbed by Milgov.

Civgov is facing the steady fracturing of American society. Like most other governments as a result of wars and the side effects of the limit nuclear exchange.

Milgov is still prosecuting the war at this time. But, that may change dramatically in coming years.

No longer accepting new players publicly. Will take two more this week if there is anyone you would like to invite. Go ahead begin talking and planning among yourselves in the character thread. I will work with you on getting the characters prepped and on a good, old fashioned suicide mission.

We will kick off the campaign as soon as the bookkeeping is done. Thanks for your efforts. I look forward to our game.

Howdy

So I am a rather trainwreck of skills.

I can do a little bit of this and that, though would love to hear what skills everyone has focused on, so I might change some things.

Electronics
Medicine
Gunsmith
Lockpick

Those are the unusual ones I have

The plight of high intelligence and high education. Makes you a skill hog. Something will definitely have a place in the game soon enough.

So I see our group as a Special Operations like group, or am I missing something?

Also what about modern weapons from around the time of the game, as M4 Carbines and such did exist back then.

In reply to Micheal Anderson (msg # 18):

The game was written about a decade before the widespread  use of the m4, and about 5 years before SOCOM was formed.

That is why the equipment  depicts an 80s feel.

The war started in 1995, nuclear weapons were used on a limited strategic level in 1997, and the war continues. In a nutshell, anyway.

In game terms the conflicts of the actual 1990s, our contemporary history, didn't happen. For now all that juicy cool shit that comes after 1994 doesn't exist. Including mass cell phone usage, mass computer usage, massive commercialized access and exploitation the global positioning system, and so.

Winters are harder because of the nukes. Crop die outs due lack germination are common, famine is common, electromagnetic pulse crippled electronics globally, many targeted military bases and industrial centers caused incredible collateral damage because they were in or near cities, caused massive forest fires, and crippled national infrastructure.

But the war is still going.

M4s are rare, complete SOPMOD kits are nearly non-existent, H&k Mk 23 SOCOM pistols are rare also. And if it wasn't an American firearm or one used in the US comptitve firearms circuit in the 1980s then there isn't all of the bf4 and cod mods for guns.

Roger is a Spec Oos guy in the mode of action/thriller characters. He has a PhD in all the ways you can kill somebody and will probably be unemployed and homeless 6 months after he gets out (until he gets that sweet sweet contractor money).

Andrew Johnson:
Quickly Andrew checked his watch to make sure they were on schedule as he kept his eyes on the beach.....

Some notes about Pellicer Creek near the Princess Place Preserve.

We are approximately a mile inland from the ocean. There will be no surf or waves unless somebody blasts by us in a speedboat.

(Even on the coast in this area it's relatively tiny unless there is a storm brewing. West coasters laugh and say you can't surf there. By Australian standards it's still waters.)

It will mostly still be salt water and I imagine we had an interesting time navigating our way in from the Atlantic through a bunch of rich/touristy areas that are now shit holes. Not difficult but interesting. Would be an awesome establishing shot for movie about the semi-apocalypse that is T2K.

"300m west of Princess Place Preserve's North Shore" is is about 1000% more likely to put us landing in a salt marsh than on a beach. Where it's not marsh the water in the area is mostly going to run right up to thick overhanging plant growth on the bank or flatten out into a mud flat.

Ok, I am having some kind of issue with google maps right now.

Here are some basic coordinates to give you an idea of where stuff is on the map in google maps. The terrain in flat, overgrown from years of not being used, and home to mosquitoes, snakes, alligators, and feral dogs.

the map coordinates for the landing site are 29.659462, -81.234023

the target site is at 29.658818, -81.237231

Sorry for he delay in visual references.

In reply to Andrew Johnson (msg # 28):

Not sure what you mean?

I posted that info in the OOC because presumably we would all know it before we left on the operation.

You've got a paragraph about a beach landing we won't be making, (Barring the very real possibility that someone has built one) that mentions dunes we won't be encountering unless we run up on a golf course (or maybe a construction site).

You've got another paragraph that, given the situation, reads like you wanted us to be dropped off to swim a half click to the mouth of the river so we could then swim nearly two clicks up the river to get to where we're going.

By sheer happenstance I have recently stood within about 100 meters (give or take a few) of where we are planning to land and thought I would share what I saw so that you could use it to make Andrews expert musings sound a little more in line with the actual terrain.

I would've just said something in character since Roger is relatively local and Andrew is "furiner" but it was all thoughts so I felt responding to them would be creepy. Lol.

I'm just waiting for everyone to have time to post. I will work on details for the target site to allow you to postulate, percolate, and generally plan your approach. I will probably be posting throughout the day tomorrow.

If it's gotta be said OCC...

The operation is straight forward;
Two teams will go ashore just north of Marineland on A1A, they will clear the area so that the other teams can come ashore

A team will establish a secure point for the radio relay/repeater

R66 will rush their zodiac the forty odd yards across A1A to Matanzas River, travel south to Pellicer Creek and switch from outboard to paddling, make their way to the drop off point, the sailor running the zodiac will then slow row a ways back, hide out in the boat, and wait

Fire support is available front the destroyer 'iverness' using a rapid fire 5 inch gun front a mile offshore

A navy Seahawks (a twin engine blackhawk) is on the pad for resupply, medevac, combat retrieval

Once cleared, R66 will occupy the site and await orders

You can preplan a resupply drop load out if you want, only one

R66 will have to achieve success by 0705 EST, the first helicopter insertion drops will fly through the area at 0715 EST

Spot the enemy and
Pull a ninja and kill them covertly or
Take the enemy under fire to pin them down for a fire mission, go mop up or
Pin the enemy down and snipe them, go mop up

You get the idea, make a plan

So for an initial plan I would go with the sniper to provide over watch having found a location himself before the others in the group move forward. Once that is completed the rest of the group move forward to assault the house as quietly as possible.

If it all goes pear shaped we call in the big guns or we just assault ourselves..... Prisoner and intel would be a primary target. Any other ideas ?

Sounds good to me. Simple enough for us to amend it on the fly.
