Re: If it's gotta be said OCC...

Can we assume that Torv has shared the information that was provided in the last GM post?

Re: If it's gotta be said OCC...

Yes, in retrospective, whenever something is that obvious then just allude to it in your post susch...

After Torv relayed his observations to the others....

Is that fair? I will work on a map.

Re: If it's gotta be said OCC...

game map loaded. Torc is the closest blue dot of R66 from his to the truck (red arrow pointing north) is 270 meters. The sentry (red dot) is next the seawall (white line) and is 245 meters from Torv.

Your personal coms are probably some flavor of Motorola radios, about three dozen versions were used by SOCOM from 89 to 93, and are not secured frequencies, can be voice activated throat mics, last about fours continuous, and have a practical range in these conditions of about 3/4 to a 1 mile.

Just a word of note, a 9 inch barrel on the KH21 will cut the range by 1/2. Normal barrel length is a touch over twenty inches.

Re: If it's gotta be said OCC...

Do you use magazines, drums, belts, or some mix of those in your HK21?

Did you want Castle to carry any extra ammo for the MG?

Did Andrew bring a suppressed weapon?

In reply to Roger A Castle (msg # 43):

The HK has a suppressor and he uses 100 round boxes as well as the magazine kit in his pack. I think he is ok for carrying the ammo, thanks.

A suppressor on a GMG? I've honestly never heard of that.

Wouldn't the suppressor overheat in fairly short order?

In reply to Erin 'Torv' Torvinen (msg # 45):

Fairly common, the HK21 has a semi-burst-auto trigger pack and the heavy barrels on them make them incredibly accurate, enough for long range shots. If we were looking at requiring sustained fire Andrew would remove the suppressor first.

Re: If it's gotta be said OCC...

double claw feed mechanism that could retain and feed a ten foot long, free hanging belt of 7.62mm NATO while being held sideways with the feed port facing the ground twenty feet in the air.

it uses the roller cam bolt common to that line of rifles, mgs, and smgs. it is the fast semi-auto firing blowback system in the world because of it. although in reality that made the recoil harder to deal with. plus the stock isn't positioned quite high enough on the receiver for true inline recoil.

because of the weight of the bolt and the extremely high reward velocity of the bolt carrier assembly the return springs are wicked stiff. Once they begin to get hot they get temperamental and often experience heat flex causing rate of fire to speed up uncontrollably at times making the gun mis-cycle and iether fail to feed or stove-pipe cartridge casings upon ejection.

these weapons, the rifles included, through empty cartridge cases about a meter at a hard angle to front right of the firer.

damn, i really miss messy with the HKs.

I don't suppose it would be possible for Torv to get a shot off as he realizes that the sentry is going for the radio?

With winds, weather, darkness, range, scope, observation of target, yadda, yadda, yadda Torv would need a 72 or less for a torso hit, 62 or less for a headshot

Re: If it's gotta be said OCC...

For Andrew to fire, the first shot will benefit from him being ready and aiming roll under 78, for the following  shots roll under 48. Rate of fire 3 (approximately 9 bullets used) so make three rolls to hit, the 1st roll under 78, the next 2 under 48.

Re: If it's gotta be said OCC...

New map posted. The blue letters are initials for last names, sorry Torv, this map is too close up to see your position.

Using the DShK gun as a target reference point, everyone's distance from the truck is;
Castle    30 meters (SMGs can walk and still fire, -10)
Walsh     32 meters (SMGs can walk and still fire, -10)
Johnson   55 meters (short range w/9" bbl if braced, medium range if not)
Torvinen  145 meters (counts as a medium range shot, if you aim it doubles to hit %)

The HMG is set up on a normal heavy tripod using a tall pintle to allow it to engage aircraft. It's tall enough to stand behind, so a gunner could get enough muzzle elevation to engage flying targets by squating or kneeling. There isn't a gun shield, but it does use preloaded drums that allow it to reload faster. Just like the old German drums for MGs, its a belt carefully coiled into a circular container. It uses 50 round/17 shot belts. There are at least 20 of those drums in several milk crates on the flatbed near the gun.

Re: If it's gotta be said OCC...

I should've remembered to assign these.

Castle        R661, callsign Raider1
Johnson       R662, callsign Raider2
Torvinen      R663, callsign Raider3
Walsh         R664, callsign Raiders

Personal callsigns, nicknames, etc are up to you guys to figure out

Re: If it's gotta be said OCC...

In polish a grenade is granat, they get Grenatten from a slang form of Grenadier used during ww2, it used to refer to elite troops/commandos.

I should have stated that in the post. They realize that they are being raided, probably assume it's Rangers or Force Recon.
