Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

The Attack Characteristic is like all the other characteristics. They don't stack.

So, if your starting Career has a +1 Attack, and your next Career has a +1 Attack, you still only get 1 Attack. Just the same as if your first Career had +5% WS, and so did your next one.

You start with 1 Attack, so the only way you'd have 3 attacks is if your Career had +2 Attacks.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

As I understand it, the only way to get to three attacks is to be in a career with +2 A on the advance scheme and to have taken both advances. Speaking for Kargun as a Veteran, he cannot get a third attack until entering the Champion career. I think that only the 2nd advanced career can give +2 A and that 1800 xp is not enough for any of us to be there yet. I think it's 1100 xp just to complete the first career.

Edit: Marie beat me to it.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Jareik and Kargun are following the same career path then, and makes 0 sense in that case that he would get +1 A over Kargun.

So yeah I think your original theory was correct, I likely went with a very liberal interpretation of "free advance", the Silver lining being this means I probably messed up xp calculations aswell so will need to double check that.

In conclusion, nerfing Jareik.

ST, a question from the combat. Did Kargun's delayed attack go off and hit the mutant who has charged him? Just want to clarify before I post.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Ah, yeah, I see where I went wrong. I think it was because I made up Gerhart later than Milly and Jareik, instead of levelling up from scratch. On the upside, it means that I can change things to the way I wanted it. No point getting more attacks if they have little chance of landing.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Huh, turns out that Gerhart does get +2 attacks in his advancement scheme, it's just that it's from his second career.

Could someone who knows the game a bit better tell me if it'd be better to WS 39 and 3 Attacks or WS 44 and 2 attacks?

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Well when it comes to knowing the game a bit better clearly I'm not one to talk.

BUT in terms of odds, I know I'd rather gamble on 3 39% chance of success rolls then I would 2 rolls at 44%. That said there might be external factors at play I'm not keeping in mind so hopefully someone else can provide a second opinion.

In reply to Gerhart Athelbrand (msg # 146):

What is your Career, out of curiosity?

And I am conservative when it comes to these gambles. I think greater percentage to hit is more important that number of attacks.

Like, I'd rather have only one attack at 45% WS, than three at 25% WS, for instance.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

It's a very small trade-off - 5% to hit versus an extra attack. For damage output, the math favours more attacks. However, WS also drives parries which may influence your decision.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Gerhart's a Bounty Hunter turned Assassin. I've had to make investments in other areas so he can do all the other cloak-and-dagger stuff, and rolled a fairly low BS that I had to make up for as well.

He's also the very first character I've made, so there may very well be some missteps in the run of things but at least I can shore up his WS with the next few advancements.

Honest, he's really, really good in a fight so long as the other person doesn't notice he's there.

I'm starting to feel like the mechanics sheriff. I swear I'm not trying to be that guy!

lol

Anyway, I think you may indeed have made a misstep Gerhart.

The fastest way to go from Bounty Hunter to Assassin is to go Bounty Hunter->Targeteer->Assassin. That would require, at minimum, 4,000 xp. We are only at 1,800 xp at the moment. Which would only put you into Targeteer, assuming that is the route you went.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Yep, I hadn't a clue what I was doing, unfortunately, and the GM had a lot going on. I might have to remake the character from scratch.

I was originally aiming for him to be a Witch Hunter, so I might opt for him as a Bounty Hunter turned Vampire Hunter, since it'd fit in well with him being from Ostermark.

Well I'm glad, makes it look less awkward if I'm not the only one who fudged things on their sheet xD

And I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for that meddling mechanics sheriff! *shakes fist at Marie*

If you refer to me, then I have to bow and apoligize for the oversight. That said, the easiest thing would be to go 0 XP base character and advance from there. That would allow you to get sorted properly. But that assumes going back to the starting output and working from there if doable?

Aye, I still have my original rolls. It's no big hassle and really, I should have checked better. Just got tangled up there somewhere along the way.

Well, now he's a vampire hunter. Just need to sort out the gear.

And hopefully no one will notice that Peter Cushing has dropped in to help out. Can't see why anyone would mind.

I missed my chance to act while waiting for an answer to this question. I'll just move on with this round.

Yes, delayed apply on charge. Please in this round, add this as an additional attack against the one you are facing. Do note that this one does not get any bonuses from outnumbering.

Marie, how are you putting out so much damage while using a shield? I don't want to be the police, but I'm curious to know if should be doing more myself.

I am curious too; as it is a birth sword I checked knights of the grail p.66 but it details nothing about having impact, which is what I noticed seeing 2d10 rolled.
Perhaps a misunderstanding - can you clarify Marie?

I prayed to invoke a Gift of the Lady, and chose Might of Purity. I was able to skip the 12 rounds of prayer time because I took the Virtue of Purity.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Correct, Marie can choose but if the lady decides that it knows better it might overwrite what she asked for - here she asked for more damage, and the Lady agrees, but if the monster was purely made of poison that would kill Marie quickly, then it COULD ignore this and give her protection from poison instead, despite what she asked.
Curious thing..and part of the kit.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Despite owning them all (A Humble Bundle) there are plenty of these 2e books that I have never read one page of. That explains it! I rolled Kargun using the core book only and it's the only one I have really looked at outside of Realms of Sorcery.
