Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

So, I'm running a high XP game of WFRP 2e, and one of the players brought up that despite being into third or even fourth Careers, no one is a healer/magic type. Which is true. Just testing the waters to see if anyone might be interested in playing something like that and would be interested in joining up? We just started the game proper, so you wouldn't have missed anything...

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

I would but I just keep thinking how much fun it'd be to play an itinerant Black Orc shaman who really just wants to hone his medical skills and is fairly sure that amputation and cauterisation can cure everything from gangrene to hiccoughs, as well as the prevalent derangement of not wanting medical treatment from the nearest competent chirurgeon.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Seems you got your healer!
I would have wanted to check over the rules and careers for healer types to determine my interest so is probably for the best, takes me ages to brew up characters.

Tbh I was hoping for angry Etain. Because now I fear a Etain-Marie coalition of unorthodoxy.

You succeeded, with flying colors!

And I admit when I said I feared an Etain/Marie coalition, I didn't expect such an..."intimate" alliance.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

The last game was...interesting. ;)

Although last time around, Marie burned all her FP in the first fight, and spent the entire game so injured that a light sneeze would have killed her.

Let's hope things go better for her this time around.

I am curious, just for kicks, what did you fight? And and what XP level?(sorry for being mechanical) - I have seen similar cases in fights with overwhelming numbers OR one big strong well armored guy or similar. Again, magicusers are also a pain possibly, but that said, I personally like combat to be challenging, fair but tough, and fitted to who fights it.
This will also be reflected in this game should it come to it. That said, I believe strongly that a fight can be approach in many ways, even without swords - coin, words and strange alliances also factor in.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Would you believe a handful of common thugs almost killed me? The dice rolls went completely against me consistently. Like, shockingly bad.

And while I don't remember exactly what xp I was at when the first fight happened, we gained 1,600 xp over the course of the game. Of course, I was stuck at 700 xp spent, because I couldn't get out of my Career. Couldn't get the trappings. I was underleveled compared to everyone else in the end.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Btw minor note:
"You will have to tell me the details on the way, mon cher." should be
"You will have to tell me the details on the way, ma cherie or ma chere."

Unless Etain has even more hidden surprises down there...xP

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Well I never been to Canada but am half French irl.

Maybe it's something particular about Canadian French but can assure you in French French everything is gendered and mon cher is masculine.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Possibly.

I'll change it to be more French French, and ask my step grandmother what is up. She is pure French Canadian.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

I'm curious too now, I know there is some differences with Canadian French so this could well be one of them. Let me know what she says!

You had me doubting but a quick google fu seems to reinforce my belief, especially this link which also explains well the difference between cher/chere and cheri/cherie depending on your intention:

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

I learned French in Scotland and France and now live in Canada. I find the French here is only about 75% intelligible to me with the accents and different use.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Well, she hasn't got back to me yet. But now that I am curious, having never even thought of it before, I've begun basic Googling to educate myself. And apparently there are some major differences.

https://unitedlanguagegroup.co...portant-differences/

In fact, just looking at the brief article, they may actually be saying "ma," but being ignorant of the language I might be assuming "mon," because of the different way they pronounce vowels.

Interesting. You learn something new every day!

Not that I did well in french in school (barely passed) but I have heard french canadian is very different then proper french, due to increased English and the isolation

Was watching this but Marie's link is better, sums up succintly the differences. But this vid might still be useful for hearing said differences.

I'm coming to the conclusion Canadian French is really weird, or maybe it's just the Metropolitan French that is weird.
Makes me really want to go to Canada to see how many misunderstandings I would get into:

Bonjour monsieur! Vos gosses sont tres polis!!
What I want to say: Good day mister! Your kids are very polite!
What they will understand: Good day mister! Your testicles are very polished!
And that's the amazing story of how I will keep getting beat up in Canada and have no clue why.

Yes it's very possible the accent is affecting things too and could totally see "ma" being misheard as "mon". To be honest Canadian French to my ears sounds like ducks speaking French. But then to them my French would likely sound very arrogant and snotty, which adds to the irony that Canadian French is closer to how French nobility spoke at court.

I'm actually going to introduce a civilised and polite dark elf, a skinny, clean shaven dwarf, and an imperial Black orc who's a member of the Reiksguard.

Dm are you SURE the forces of chaos were defeated in this timeline?
At this point it's clear the chaos gods are just trolling Jareik and Etain is actually their dark champion, a perfidious sorceress of great evil and next to no virtue.
