Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

As far as Jareik is concerned, Marie and Etain are pulling a Leeroy Jenkins xP

But makes sense, I'm guessing Marie as a brettonian knight is all about them glorious charges and avoiding disohonorable tactics so the way she got taught to fight has nothing to do with how Jareik got taught: forming lines and using combined arms. End result is a total doctrine clash.

Also he isn't factoring in Marie's horse, for whom's safety she might be fearing.

Well we also lack a wall of pikes or shields... I think only Kargun and Marie have a shield.

Atrocious shooting all around I'm afraid, eugh.
Sorry for that, Marie and Etain will have to fend for themselves for the next 1-2 rounds since there's 3 enemies blocking our path. The silver lining is those 3 won't be flanking you if they are going for us.

Also Milly's position needs to be updated on the map, she should be at O8.

Eugh seems I jinxed it for that flank. On the bright side Marie and Etain are going to come out of this looking like badasses if they survive.

Also for style reasons, describing multiple great sword attacks as a single hefty strike to make it feel more weighty and because pc isn't a swordmaster of hoeth to be twirling around a two hander as if it was nothing.

Please, we are already badasses. ;)

Out of curiosity, how do you already have three attacks?

If i recall (this pc was made many months ago prior to the start of this game so been a while) i mega lucked out with rng traits you roll for at character creation so started with 2 attacks, got 3rd through advances.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Hm. Odd.

As far as I know, there are no Talents that increase your Attacks. Starting or otherwise.

Not trying to bust your balls, just curious.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Thankfully the old game didn't get deleted so was able to check things over as am autistic enough to write down my character creation process step by step.

Ok so turns out isn't a talent or trait (I was actually thinking of how I got nightvision, that one I got through rng), but chose +1 attack with a "free advance". Does that sound more correct?

And no worries, it isn't unheard off for me to make mistakes or misinterpret (both positively and negatively) rules at times, you would be quite right to bust me if you reckoned something is awry!

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

I think that's a misinterpretation of free advance, the advance is free in cost but must come from your advance scheme. I.e. if you can only choose an advance on the scheme and once taken you cannot take it again.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Gerhart also has 3 attacks, though he started with 1 and advanced once for each Career. As I recall, every basic career has - or +1 for Attacks advancement except the Troll Slayer.

Still, were I to go back I think I'd have opted for another boost to WS over an extra attack, better to have two more accurate attacks than three less accurate ones.

Sounds exactly like something I'd do tbh. Gerhart's explanation makes sense too so guess there is only 1 way to solve this mystery: will have to browse through book and check career path, see if got +2 attacks from advances or if was a rule misinterpretation.

In meantime better to assume it's 2 attacks until we confirm it.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

The Attack Characteristic is like all the other characteristics. They don't stack.

So, if your starting Career has a +1 Attack, and your next Career has a +1 Attack, you still only get 1 Attack. Just the same as if your first Career had +5% WS, and so did your next one.

You start with 1 Attack, so the only way you'd have 3 attacks is if your Career had +2 Attacks.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

As I understand it, the only way to get to three attacks is to be in a career with +2 A on the advance scheme and to have taken both advances. Speaking for Kargun as a Veteran, he cannot get a third attack until entering the Champion career. I think that only the 2nd advanced career can give +2 A and that 1800 xp is not enough for any of us to be there yet. I think it's 1100 xp just to complete the first career.

Edit: Marie beat me to it.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Jareik and Kargun are following the same career path then, and makes 0 sense in that case that he would get +1 A over Kargun.

So yeah I think your original theory was correct, I likely went with a very liberal interpretation of "free advance", the Silver lining being this means I probably messed up xp calculations aswell so will need to double check that.

In conclusion, nerfing Jareik.

ST, a question from the combat. Did Kargun's delayed attack go off and hit the mutant who has charged him? Just want to clarify before I post.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Ah, yeah, I see where I went wrong. I think it was because I made up Gerhart later than Milly and Jareik, instead of levelling up from scratch. On the upside, it means that I can change things to the way I wanted it. No point getting more attacks if they have little chance of landing.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Huh, turns out that Gerhart does get +2 attacks in his advancement scheme, it's just that it's from his second career.

Could someone who knows the game a bit better tell me if it'd be better to WS 39 and 3 Attacks or WS 44 and 2 attacks?

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Well when it comes to knowing the game a bit better clearly I'm not one to talk.

BUT in terms of odds, I know I'd rather gamble on 3 39% chance of success rolls then I would 2 rolls at 44%. That said there might be external factors at play I'm not keeping in mind so hopefully someone else can provide a second opinion.

In reply to Gerhart Athelbrand (msg # 146):

What is your Career, out of curiosity?

And I am conservative when it comes to these gambles. I think greater percentage to hit is more important that number of attacks.

Like, I'd rather have only one attack at 45% WS, than three at 25% WS, for instance.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

It's a very small trade-off - 5% to hit versus an extra attack. For damage output, the math favours more attacks. However, WS also drives parries which may influence your decision.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

Gerhart's a Bounty Hunter turned Assassin. I've had to make investments in other areas so he can do all the other cloak-and-dagger stuff, and rolled a fairly low BS that I had to make up for as well.

He's also the very first character I've made, so there may very well be some missteps in the run of things but at least I can shore up his WS with the next few advancements.

Honest, he's really, really good in a fight so long as the other person doesn't notice he's there.

Re: OoC - Out of Character Thread

I'm starting to feel like the mechanics sheriff. I swear I'm not trying to be that guy!

lol

Anyway, I think you may indeed have made a misstep Gerhart.

The fastest way to go from Bounty Hunter to Assassin is to go Bounty Hunter->Targeteer->Assassin. That would require, at minimum, 4,000 xp. We are only at 1,800 xp at the moment. Which would only put you into Targeteer, assuming that is the route you went.
